Nintendo Power Star Fox 64 Promotional VHS June 1997

  • This is the rare Star Fox 64 Promo VHS tape,
On occasion, many subscribers of Nintendo Power magazine, along with game console owners who registered their consoles, received VHS tapes promoting the Nintendo 64 and games such as Donkey Kong Country, Star Fox 64, Diddy Kong Racing, Banjo-Kazooie, and Pokémon. One of the tapes covered both Donkey Kong 64 and Jet Force Gemini. Some of the tapes featured "hidden" previews at the end after the credits.
The practice has ceased with the availability of DVDs and online video. Nintendo Power included one bonus DVD in the August 2005 (v. 194) issue, featuring videos for The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Nintendogs, and other games.

I remember getting this in the mail as a kid and watching it 10000000 times before the game even came out.
And then I played Star Fox 64 10000000 times.

This was 1000% my experience. I watched and rewatched this VHS *so* many times prior to the game coming out. Hi-res nostalgia, low-res video.

This song played in the LOUD HOUSE episode entitled "Sleuth Or Consequences" from Season 1 in early 2016. It played in the scene where Lisa was showing her files to the Loud children. It also played when Lincoln was acting like his favorite superhero whose name was Ace Savvy. It also played throughout the episode such as when they were investigating who caused a clog in the toilet. It also played briefly in the episode "Dance Dance Resolution" when Lincoln faces the music with Ronnie-Anne.
This song is usually used in scenes of suspense/confession/accusation during the television series. After being used in Season 1 it was no longer used. It had also been taken out of the APM library.

it's quite humorous and not nearly as shame-inducing as other promos. I actually laughed with the SEGA dude's "I'm on it" and "mih mih mih mih mih" (can't come up with the right transliteration) response he gives to "we have a lot of games coming out" xD.

I always loved how Sega was the big dumb guy and Sony was the little wise guy.

If you never took the mission accomplished route to Andross you'd never get to see 1/3-1/4 of the levels and would have a false ending. I don't think you're hinted at how to complete the Corneria mission, which is why for months back in 97 I never did.

    Sony = sy
    Sega = sg
    Bob = b
    Peter = p
    Other = o
O “And now your feature presentation from nintendo power.”
sy “The eagle has landed, i repeat the eagle has landed.”
    Sg “im on him.”
Sy “hey buddy, you got the time”
P “sure it’s uh, hey aren’t you the- WOW”
    sg / sy “HAHAHAHHAHAHAH… HAHAHAH”
    P “what’s this about?”
Sy “quiet, bitboy, we’ll ask the questions around here”
P “do you uh, have to talk into that thing”
Sg “word on the street is you got a new nintendo 64 game coming out”
P “could you be a little more specific, we got a lot of new games coming out”
    Sg ”ahdhygfyekagwahlf hreuiSAFGHKGJEGHSF”
Sy ”star fox 64, test pilot boy”
P “ooooh, you wanna know about starfox 64”
Sg “uh, yeah and you better tell us all you know or else”
    P “or else what?”
    Sg *inhale/exhale*
Sy “or else plumber boy here, gets it”
P “what are you guys doing with mario?”
    SY/sg *laughing*
P “no, leave mario out of this”
    sy/sg *more laughing*
    sy/sg “start talking”
P “okay, okay, okay, you’ve made your point”
P “SF64 is the highly advanced combat game for the N64, the fox team includes fox mccloud and his wingmen, peppy hare, slippy toad, and falco lombardi. The team is sent on missions to destroy Andross, the mad scientist who declared war on the entire Lylat system”
Sy “this sounds like a fun bunch, but what do these guys drive?”
Sg “yeah, some beat up B52”
    sy/sg *laughing*
P “HA HA HA, you wish. In SF64 there are three vehicles for missions. For air battles you’ve got the Arwing. Check this out. This vehicle comes with all the latest cool moves. You can do barrel rolls, make U-turns, it can even do summersaults. And, you can lock on to your enemies before blowing them away. And for battles on land, you’ve got the land master tank. A totally brand new vehicle that rolls and hovers over enemy obstacles. Then for water based fighting, you’ve got this submarine, called the blue-marine. This baby fires torpedoes that light up the dark areas for better vision before taking out the enemy in front of you.”
    O “here they come”
P “listen to the real time dialogue.”
O “you’re not getting away that easy”
O “go for the 4 hatches on the underside”
P “kinda makes you feel like you’re part of the game doesn’t it?”
Sg “wow this really is the coolest game out there”
Sy “so you see i told you”
P “ha, you guys you don’t know the half of it”
    Sy “what, there’s more?”
P “well yeah, but bob would kill me if i told you”
Sg “well we’ll just have to get this bob guy to tell us himself”
    ACT 2
Sy “pizza for bob, are you uh, bob”
B “uh yeah but uh i didn’t order any pizza”
    sg/sy *laughing*
P “MMHMM this is good pizza”
    B “peter?”
Sg “glad you could join us bob, your test fighter pilot just spilled his guts about SF64”
B “peter you didn’t tell them about, the rumble pack did you?”
    P “DOHH”
Sy “no, bob, you just did”
    B “i did”
    P “you did”
    Sy “spill it, bit boy”
    B “make me”
    Sy “with pleasure”
Sy “look at your little plumber boy now”
B “what are you doing, NO, not the Mario doll strapped to the battery cable charger desk”
B “no, that’s enough that’s enough, alright. This is the rumble pack. The big reason why SF64 is the coolest cinematic gaming experience there is, it’s designed with a force feedback device, that lets players feel the game.”
Sy “wait a second, you’re telling me that this rumble pack actually lets players FEEL the game?”
Sg “what like you’re actually in the cockpit flying and fighting?”
    Sy “that’s impossible”
    Sg “nuh uh”
    B “yuh huh”
Sy “hook it up, i wanna feel this myself”
B “the rumble pack lets you feel different degrees of vibration, like when you turbo boost or shoot a bomb, the rumble pack feeds back a slight turbulent vibration”
Sy “wow, i actually felt it”
B “i told you, and when you get hit by enemy fire you feel even more of a vibration”
    Sg “uh, cool”
B “what’s even cooler, is when you crash your vehicle is when you *REALLY* feel a vibration”
    sy/sg “this is incredible”
P “well what do you say guys, you into a little multiplayer action?”
sy/sg “let’s get ready to rumble”
B “gentlemen, welcome to VS mode, up to 4 players at once, see that, each player has his own quadrant on the screen and there are 3 game modes”
Sy “this is fantastic! Now, can you play this on Sega Saturn?”
    B “NOPE, only on N64”
Sg “well what about playstation? Can you play this game on that system?”
B “nope, only on N64! Well what did peter tell you, SF64 is just one of the cool games we got coming out.”
sy/sg “what? You mean there’s more?”
    B “yup, check this out!”
Sg “man that is one killer lineup.”
Sy “boy are we in big trouble”
Sg “we just can’t beat you guys”
B “yeah, well as much as we’d love to stick around here and keep playing with you guys, we gotta go.”
    P “yeah, sorry guys”
B “oh and uh by the way, have you seen this?”
    Sy “what’s that”
B “that’s the SF64 player’s guide, it teaches you everything you need to know about the game”
    Sy “let me see that”
B “you can buy it at the store”
P “or if you want more gaming information, check us out on the web, at starfox64.com”
B “thanks for the pizza, guys”
    P “see ya later, boys”
    b/p “HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA”

I mean, them hyping up the Rumble Pack is cheesy and seems silly, but rumble feedback has long since become industry standard.

Who would have thought that that short test clip of "Zelda 64" at the end of the previews would turn into the most successful game for the system. Do they have a really corny commercial like this for Ocarina of Time?
