  • In this video vi test three ultrasonic distance sensors. HC-SR04 vs. HC-SR05 (HY-SRF05) vs. US-100 (Y401). We compare the specifications, do a field test and evaluate all over compatibility and easy of use.
    We are testing the following boards:
    - US-100 ultrasonic distance sensor
    - HC-SR05 ultrasonic distance sensor/ HY-SRF05 US-100 ultrasonic distance sensor
    - HC-SR04 ultrasonic distance sensor
    Based on our use areas we then share which sensor we prefer.

    Amazon - HC-SR05 - amzn.to/2GM1fA4
    Amazon - HC-SR04 - amzn.to/2N7A2c2
    And for us, that is the US-100 ultrasonic distance sensor. While it costs a bit more it is still very cheap. One of the key selling points for us is that it can run on 3.3V and not only 5V. Because of that we use it with all Arduino boards, Raspberry pi, ESP8266 and ESP32.
    Additionally, the fact that the board can do the timing for you frees you sketch so that you easily can run apps like Blynk. And it allows you to save GPIO pins, since it can only use RX and TX pins. So you get the results via UART / Serial communication.
    And of course, it is a very good bonus that the US-100 has a built in temperature sensor and give you more accurate distance measurements.

    Sir.. my hc-sr04 only reads from 2-6cm and 200cm above.. it can't read between that.. is it because my sensors are broken or there's something else? Thank you for your help.

    Nice job, thank you. Q) Is the temp comp on the US-100 working/enabled through the trigger and echo functions?

    • @DIYTECHBROS
      @DIYTECHBROS  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Seems like you deactivate everything (including temp) when you remove the jumper and just have the echo and trigger functions.

    Are HC-SR04 and US-100 the different version but same sensor?

    The US-025 is great for low battery consumption. Starts up instantly, works well at 3.3v (good distance) and is really cheap.
    Also, i'm powering it directly from the GPIOs of an esp8266, super convenient to have it fully powered off while sleeping, no mosfet required

      A radar sensor or laser would probably be the best. They offer better range.

      there is a possibility that there is some material that is not detected?

    • @DIYTECHBROS
      @DIYTECHBROS  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes, any materials that are to "soft" will not bounce the sound back. If you try an ultrasonic sensor with a fluffy pillow chances are high that it will not bounce the sound back. But, for use with a car almost all materials will be detected.

    • @DIYTECHBROS
      @DIYTECHBROS  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that’s a good option. In fact, we do have a video using that for a parking sensor! But, it’s more of a specialized sensor and more expensive. This test is for common starter sensors :-)

      No, we have not conducted a bigger test to verify. But the ones I have tested generally goes beyond the stated max distance.

    WHY DONT PEOPLE USE THE US-100 ESPECIALLY WITH 3.3v MCUs? IS IT NOT WELL KNOWN?

    • @DIYTECHBROS
      @DIYTECHBROS  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wish more people were using it! As you are saying, it is perfect for 3.3V MCUs and build in temp. as well as UART mode, so the MCUs don't have to spend time measuring the distance. But, it is common in the maker community, some modules and parts become more popular for no other reason that somebody startet using it. Just look at the HC-SR01, or the 10K resistor for pull ups and the AMS1117. They are all excellent modules/components, but in so many cases there are better options.
