I was there that day in the Liverpool end. It was an incredible game . What I remember the most though is the ball got ballooned high into the crowd , way high in the Wednesday fans and some dude stood up watched the flight of the ball and punched it full on on the face it flew right back onto the pitch , it was beautiful . What they don’t show on the highlights as well is fowler had a golden chance at the death to win this match but hit it straight at the keeper oh and the sun sponsored the match ball because they think they are clever.
This was before the rest of the football world outside of England had heard of Michael Owen. To think Glenn Hoddle didn't want to take him to the 98 World Cup, too young apparently.
Owen and Philips was the form strikers. He didn't even take Philips... That's because he was so set on that shearer and sheringham partnership Terry Venables created. sheringham was a great player but I never really thought during Euro 96 he did well enough club levels to Warrent a England place. Back in the day when national managers use to make strange decisions. Can't believe Italy never considered Carbone and Di Canio...
