That little switch is the interrupter for shifting. It cuts the ground from the ignition for a second to allow the gears to mesh without power applied.
That 120 sounds awesome and Big Blue 68 is gonna been a awesome boat when she finished. As Tim the tool man Taylor would say that 68 is gonna get More Powerrrr!! Good idea on hoist on trailer .. 👍👍👍👍As always Sir thanks for the ride along and Keep’em coming
White ammonia on a cotton swab completely takes away the sting from a wasp. It even works a few hours after the sting. We carry some with us when we ride motorcycle.
With #5 video in the tank, as always interesting and detailed. The engine hoist on the trailer worked well and will keep it in the memory bank. If you don’t have a Mercruiser maintenance manual it will be a great help when trying to hook up and adjust the throttle and shift cables. There are a few very precise measurements that have to be set for them to work. Looking forward to the next video. -Rich
Glad you enjoy it! Sorry I made you wait so long, I think it will be worth the wait for the inline 6 bruiser to be its' new powerplant. Thanks for watching
I’ve been in the market for an old starcraft for a few years now. Been watching your videos over the last year learning what I can. Extremely informative and helpful so far. Just picked up a 68 chieftain 21 with the 120 mercruiser. Glad you have quite a few videos on that motor. Mine is actually the same color with the same exact vinyl flooring your islander has. With your help from these videos, I should putting salmon in the boat in no time 🍻
Cool build, appreciate the tour of the cabin. Have wondered about upgrading to one of these. Appreciate your can do attitude and ingenuity. I think I'll stick with the Lone Star El Dorado, more room in the cabin, although it's only a 18'. Much prefer the OB too, I/O takes up so much interior space.
Nice Job I have a 1976 Starcraft chieftain with 85 hp Evenrude handles great in the water. Your videos inspired me to buy the boat and bring it back to life. I also have a 69 Tollycraft runabout with a v6 gm oddfire . Keep up the good work.
I would love to build a bigger shop, I must grow the channel to be able to make my dream shop come true, keep watching and liking and we can get there together. Thanks for watching
23.08 or around that looks like #6 plug wire is arcing fire, probably need to replace it .Might go boom ,if installed in a enclosed space with gas fumes.
I just recently received a 1975 sport 21 starcraft with the straight 165 horse when put away 20 years ago it was properly winterized but has been sitting outside being weathered any pointers on how to begin to try getting that motor started
Yes, watch this video and the rest of the series, th-cam.com/video/Uu5apLltfTM/w-d-xo.html start to finish what you should do and not wreck your motor.
New subscriber here I’ve been watching your videos on the MerCruiser 165. I have a question. I have a 165 straight line engine just like you have. I’m trying to put it in 1997Monterey but the transom plate does not match the transom cut out on the boat and the inner transom I have on the boat has power steering but this transom plate on this straight line 165 does not have a spot for the power steering. How would I go about making this work? do I need to use the transom that came with the motor to bypass the power steering or is it a transom inner plate that I can get so I can continue to use the power string
Great work, did you get a chance to cleanup the gimbal housing for the 165 ? You sure do make it look easy and I do pickup tips for my 165. Do you plan to convert the ignition to electronic? Keep up the great work on the channel. Thanks Tim

exactly! on the newer 120 and 140's its above the vale cover on the linkage.
Well I better be putting it in then, thanks for watching

That is what I was thinking too, thanks for watching
I appreciate your content. Genius!
That 6 cylinder engine will torque Big Blue across the water nicely, good choice. P.S. I agree with the other comment, Michael needs a bigger shop!

Not yet, but I will video it, I'm thinking, does electronic make sense or not, I'm leaning to leaving it simple and stock. Thanks for watching
where are you located/ would you be willing to sell the motor?
Why don’t you try the windshield butyl sealant. Mike
I may have to test that out, thanks for watching
you need to put a add on to your shop to work on boats out of the weather put a door so you can get to your shop.
I would love to, keep watching and liking and some day I can build the dream shop, thanks for watching
