I love the foreshadowing of Basil saying "Well in the event of a real fire, we'd all be stood in the lobby wouldn't we?!" and then 2 minutes later, he announces a real fire and they're all stood in the lobby. The fire drill worked after all.
This episode packs so much in. From the moose head to the fire drill...and the eponymous Germans don't show up until late but give John Cleese perhaps his most iconic moment. The actor who plays Manuel went through so much in this show. In an early episode when he gets hit on the head and just lies there with Basil on top he had actually gotten a concussion and couldn't move. And here he had to have his hands on fire for an extended period. THAT is dedication.
I LOVE the fire drill scene. It's always funny. It's like a comedy of errors. Love the Major keep bringing up about burglars and him not listening. And Basil losing it when the phone rings. Then you got Manuels ridiculous comedy flailing ,setting everything on fire haha. It's great. That scene to me could have been enough to end the episode on, could have sacked off the Germans and made that another episode
Fun fact: Andrew Sachs was actually burned in real life filming the fire scene, albeit not by the fire. When Manuel comes out of that room, you see his smouldering waiter's jacket letting off smoke. That effect is caused by means of a special kind of acid, not strong enough to burn through clothing, but capable of letting off smoke (although it will still hurt you if you touch it). Unfortunately some of it got on the inside of the costume and burned his skin, for which he was compensated later. John Cleese admitted that it was a bad mistake on the part of the special effects department, but also pointed out that Andrew Sachs was sensible enough to know that "if you play on the field you're going to get kicked every now and then."
The guy playing the Major was brilliant in EVERY scene of Fawlty Towers. Played every line with a straight face!
Absolutely brilliant. He's my favorite character in my all time favorite TV show.

Andrew Sachs (Manuel) got burnt in real life by that fire, more than was intended by the safety equipment/clothing

The best episode so far... when he thanks the phone is timing perfection. Overwhelmingly chaotic script

Bit of an obscure one, but the large blonde lady was in return of the jedi. She was a dancer in jabbas Palace
"...and the flowers have just fallen on him..." 🤣🤣
The fire drill bit is amazing 😂
My stress levels used to hit the roof watching this Series.🥺🥴
Awesome Show and Work Bro, Thanks 👍👍👍👍👍 Greetings from Helsinki Finland 🇫🇮🇺🇸🇫🇮🇺🇸

I had forgotten the fire drill part of this episode.😂😂😂
I got it mixed up with the burglary alarm ngl.
This part always gets forgotten about because of the German bit but its just as funny
I think I'm right in saying this, but ironically the building used in the exterior shots did actually burn down many years later.
Thats right. The Grange, I think it was called.

This episode is crazy
I love faulty towers
The Germans is NOT ep 6 of Fawlty Towers. The last episode is The Rat, John Cleese's favorite episode of the series.
Wait what the heck is the map of europe blocking 2/3 of the screen for?
Good one!!😂👍
This is so funny 😂
I don`t need to see it, It`s just as funny in audio.
I can't wait until the new series that John cleese is making comes out, I hope he makes it as funny as his original series
Sadly, I doubt that is going to be possible. I may be proven wrong but time will tell!
