    Another great video. And I enjoyed the paddlers therapy treatment at approximately 9:24 minutes. There are several on the Spanish

      Was so refreshing on a hot day of slogging! I've yet to paddle the Spanish. West Branch is on my bucket list!

    That looks like a good trip for late spring/ early summer. Nice variety of lakes, rivers, portaging, lining etc. Spectacular scenery. Might have to put this one on my list.

      Yeah the lower stretch can be tricky if the dam is holding back waters on Threecorner. I'd imagine it would be a fun little run at higher flows, though there could be quite a few strainers. Nice area to paddle!

    A great adventure for sure... Any fish to be had.... Well done

      Unfortunately we got skunked. Some motorboats on Threecorner pulled up the odd bass, but the lake looks heavily pressured. The river just had the odd panfish.

    any laws against going in there with some saws and clearing her up a bit ? ... might make the trip a little more enjoyable...

      Grey area really. If you're working on historic routes no one really bats an eye and the permit process is not really followed through on. Canoeists tend to do user maintenance for the majority of these crown land routes. Brand new routes are a completely different story.

    Very nice footage. I'm curious, why did you chose to leave the spray cover on for the trip? Seems awkward for a low water river trip with many liftovers.

    • @ExploreTheBackcountry
      @ExploreTheBackcountry  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I left it on all season. I was out so frequently on varying trips that it just made more sense to keep it on. Pleasantly surprised with how unawkward it actually was. I noticed a difference in headwinds (decreased wind resistance) and it was great to have for the rain, two big pluses. There's enough grab points that lifting over wasn't an issue. The hatch rolls up in seconds for portaging too!

    Nice video. Does your drone have a follow setting?

    • @ExploreTheBackcountry
      @ExploreTheBackcountry  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure does! Makes for easier shots, though some times I find the bright sun causes some 'obstacle avoidance' errors.

    Sorry guys but your insane undocumented canoe trips aren't selling me. I'm just not into bushwacking so much.

      Hehe, yeah they're definitely not for everyone. Plenty of type II fun and extra tales for telling around the campfire.

    Great footage! So I assume "Three corner lake" is a man made impoundment?

    • @ExploreTheBackcountry
      @ExploreTheBackcountry  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Threecorner has a pretty big dam at it's outflow. It was a lake before, but the dam raised the levels a lot. Some of the eastern bays are flooded river/creek. There's vehicle access at the dam.

    Great simple video. Nice to see footage from off the beaten path. The drone footage was a nice touch to allow people to see more about the expanse of the lake. I am sure it is worth the effort to get there. Did you try any fishing in that lake? Did you have to bushwack many portages?

    • @ExploreTheBackcountry
      @ExploreTheBackcountry  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      We only had to bushwhack a few portages (falls/rapids) and most were under 150m. We could line or wade the rest. There was one 700m portage around the dam at Threecorner Lake that follows a road. It also provides access for anglers, and there can be a lot on the lake at times. Unfortunately for us we got skunked, but we saw one guy haul up a bass.

    Nice Footage! Beautiful Area! What kind of small fish did you catch on the Eastsand River?

    Why do all my favourite backcountry content TH-camrs post great videos while I’m travelling on the highways between Northern and Southern Ontario where cellular data is at a premium 😡 I’ll have to wait until I get home in 7 hours to sit down and thoroughly enjoy another great video.

    Really liked the trip. The drone footage was great. Were you able to fish along the way.

    • @ExploreTheBackcountry
      @ExploreTheBackcountry  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Henry! Did a bit of fishing, but didn't catch anything. The river just had small panfish and threecorner is heavily fished - there's a boat access point near the western bay.
