I will forever be thankful for Baldur's Gate 2. I've bonded with a collegaue over it, we realised we have common interests in nerd topics, and now he is my best friend and has been for 15 years. We were each others best men on our weddings, play soccer together, spend weekends together with the wives, our wives go out together, etc. Thank you, Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn and Throne of Baal.

Hi, random stranger here. The humanity I noticed in your videos is one of the reasons I subscribed and keep enjoying and recommending your channel. The fact that you are more open in your videos and you don't sound like the "default hyped voice gaming journalist" is a very big asset, in my opinion.
I love you man, keep it up!

I'm thankful for Yakuza: Like a Dragon. I was freshly sober when I first played it (3 years sober now) and the story about a guy in his 40's starting from rock bottom and rising to the top inspired me so much. The part when Ichiban gets his little one room apartment and calls it a castle and is thankful for the fact that he just has a roof, four walls and a mattress... yea. I definitely felt that one.

I’m thankful for the Dark Souls trilogy and Final Fantasy 7 remake. I began playing those games at the beginning of the covid lockdown and my mom found out that she really liked watching certain games. Even living on my own now, not a week goes by that we don’t talk about the stories and music in our favorite games over the phone.

I’m thankful for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. I’d just been diagnosed with a heart issue and KOTOR eased my transition from working to living on disability. Video games in general helped fill my time as I struggled to adjust to my worsening health; KOTOR was the right game at the right time, and continues to be a favorite, even though I’ve come out the other side and regained my health and returned to work.

Couldn't have said it better. I too, have a bad heart and five years ago, my life as I knew it came to a full stop due to severe cardiomyopathy. Getting severe congestive heart failure at a relatively young age (43) forced me to slow down. And in doing so, I turned to gaming, initially starting with Breath of the Wild, and that game saved me mentally. I then found Morts channel and got into CRPG’s, which are the right pace and tone for keeping BP low while challenging my mind and providing an escape from my reality. Games have helped save my health, as well as keeping up/offsetting some cognitive impairment due to my heart and subsequent issues. Because of Morts channel I've been able to discover new adventures and also have his help when I'm stuck (which happens often). So, I'm thankful for this channel.

    • @JasonRyanMills
      @JasonRyanMills หลายเดือนก่อน

@ I definitely have been able to. A drug called Entresto saved my life, but it also took switching my life, what I eat, heart healthy diet, exercise, reducing stress, eliminating the negatives in my life. Mine isn't a vascular problem, its an electrical and valve problem. I still struggle with cardiomyopathy and uncontrollable high BP (genetics) but I'm not in the congestive phase. I had a 20% ejection fraction upon admission and had spent a year suffocating at night before finding out what was happening. They told me to get my affairs in order. I left the hospital determined to survive and while it takes daily work, I'm here five years later. I hope you're doing well. I sure am thankful for Mort because he's a huge reason I've been able to have enjoyment on hard days.

Ever since finding the channel, hearing about your perspective on the cycle of becoming a child into an adult into a father and other parts of your life has been one of the favourite parts of TH-cam in recent years and makes me happy knowing there’s still the personal side of TH-cam allowing creativity in this way. Thanks for this channel and giving a grateful insight into your life! Great to hear how grateful you are for the positives in your life.

Hey Mortym- nothing that others haven’t already said, but just wanted to mention how impressed and motivated I am personally by your thoughtful mindset about your life and values. The gratitude with which you speak about your work and paying off your home speaks to a real groundedness that I really admire and aspire to. As I get older (I think we’re approximately the same age) that’s an attitude that I regrettably don’t see very often in others. Especially in an online culture of “more is more” where there’s always more views to get, subscribers to capture, attention to monetize, your clarity and satisfaction around what you have and want is just so refreshing to hear. Keep prioritizing yourself and your family and we’re just happy to be along for the ride.

Im thankful for Diablo 2. I played alot of games before D2 but Its when i first started really gaming, and grinding in a game for levels and gear. And it was the first game i played PVP where i was only a young teen but was a super sweaty. But most of all i played it with my Dad. We put in so many hours together, i remember the long nights/ early mornings on the weekends and during the summer. He passed away very unexpectedly and very young ten years ago. So that's one of the most important games to me, i picked up D2R when it came out and put over 1000 hours atleast in it bc of nostalgia and remembering playing with dad. A game this year is Divinity Original sin 2 it got me into turn based i never knew how much I loved it. Its a masterpiece.

I actually watched and commented on that specific Fallout 4 - Far Harbor video you mention,
not too long ago I believe.
100% not the review I was expecting, indeed.
My special not-special game was Medievil, on Playstation.
It was the video-game that showed to me how, as a teenager,
I could still manage to be a functional uncle for my much elder brother's sons,
while having fun myself in the process.
It was also maybe the very 1st game with an actual story that I managed to finish completely, I think

I really like your videos and content. I highly value your opinion on games. But what made me like this video was the very personal touch you added.
The stuff about growing up, homelessness, adoption, job turmoil, and the birth of your son, was touching. You're a real guy, not some "character" you've created as a way to create engagement/get clicks. And I think that's amazing, especially in the current environment of how content is created these days. I definitely enjoyed how you connected games to the big events in your personal life that were concurrently happening. I often do that, and I didn't think a lot of people did that.
Anyways, I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your personal life, and being a genuine person on TH-cam. You rock!
PS: You're the reason why I gave WotR another shot after it came out, and I was just not feeling it. I'm glad you made me give it another shot, with how much I enjoyed it!

Just want to say, you're the most insightful reviewer on TH-cam, and I want to thank you for that, despite it not being Thanksgiving, but in Europe most people are more charitable around Christmas. In any case, the game I'm most thankful for is probably XCOM 2, as that has given me the most fun and longevity. I can only wish there will be an XCOM 3. If not, I'm gonna make my own tactical, turn-based game with grand strategy and rogue-like elements. As a kid, playing Zack McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders as well as games like Maniac Mansion helped me to learn English in a fun way. As a Norwegian, The Longest Journey is probably the most emotional game I've ever played, and made me want to become and art student myself, which I eventually did. I don't regret it, although, I have not had many creative jobs in my life. Keep up being a good inspiration!

Three games I will always be thankful for:
    1) Metal Gear Solid 1 for giving me my first ever video game obsession and giving me my first moment of Awe. I was 11 when I played that game, and something as innoxious as being able to control Snake while the opening credits was still rolling really blew my mind. A close second would have been MGS2 for giving me my first "Games will never feel more real than this" moment.
    2) Dungeon Siege 1 for being my introduction to point-and-click isometric games. I never would have thought of playing them until I tried out a demo of it and never looked back.
    3) The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom purely for being the first game me and my daughter got into and nerded out over together. The moments where she would excitedly tell my wife about stuff we did in the game was such a reward for me. Really great game to bond over

I'm thankful for a lot of games getting me through some hard times. Particularly FF9, FF12, Ori, DOS2 and most recently Cyberpunk. These aren't the best games I've ever played (well maybe that too) but they definitely helped me.

I started playing CRPGs as a result of stumbling on to your channel covering Wasteland 3. I was a fifa/cod gamer for years, never really realised what I was missing, now exclusively (pretty much) play CRPGs, currently on a paladin dwarf run in WOTR, so mort, as an Englishman, I’m thankful for you and your channel ahah.

Thank you for sharing Mortym. It's a great community that you've fostered here. I can say video games saved me. About two years ago, Bloons TD6 - of all games - (along with a touch of The Swapper) saw me some of the worst days of nights of a painful health issue I won't delve into. Anyway - I'll call out the two games I am specifically thankful for, which got me back into gaming after more than a decade. The last thing I'd played was on an NES when I played Halo around 2008 and was back, baby! Then I got a PC and The Orange Box, and Half-Life 2 changed my life. Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Kotor 2 changed how I viewed games and stories in general. Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age 2 changed how I viewed myself towards the end of my teens. Witcher 2 and 3 (honestly the emergence of grimdark fantasy in general) gave me a catharsis about life I didn’t know I needed. And finally Divinity Original Sin 2 and Baldur’s Gate 3 gave me back the feel from older games I didn’t realise I missed

The games I am most thankful for because they had a huge impact on my life:
    1. TES: Skyrim was released at a time in my life when I had an incredibly low self esteem. I felt different from my peers, didn't belong anywhere, didn't have friends and my environment made me believe that the things I loved most in life (cartoons/animation, fantasy, games...) wasn't for kids my age and that I had to "grow up". Not having any friends to share my interests with and trying to suppress these interests, I missed out on a lot of good games when these were released. But, somehow, I did discover Skyrim and for a long time it was my one and only escape from a life I didn't like at all. This is how I discovered my love for RPG's.
    2. The Witcher 3 was my escape during the Covid lockdown. I got completely immersed in the world and shortly after playing the third game, I played the 1st and 2nd game and I read the books. I love how nothing is black/white but just the grim reality of war and conflict. More than once, it really made me think about the duality of men and so called "monsters"
    3. Baldur's Gate 3. I never thought I'd like a turn-based tactical game but one of Larian's final panels from Hell convinced me to buy the game at launch and I got completely immersed in it. I laughed, I cried,.. I felt a wave of emotions I've never felt before with a game and I never though it would be possible that a game could make me feel so intensely but BG3 did it. Watching interviews with the voice actors, the writers and everyone who worked on the game also re-ignited a passion in me which I thought I had lost. I realized how I'm stuck in a job I don't like, but with no idea what I would want to do instead so I'm currently taking steps to make improvements. And, most importantly, in an indirect way thanks to BG3 I finally started playing D&D in real life, where I met the man who I can now call my boyfriend ❤

I’m truly grateful for the original Final Fantasy 7 and Fallout 3. For years, I was caught up in multiplayer games like Overwatch, Apex, and others. While I had fun, I started to feel like gaming was becoming a chore, and eventually, I fell out of love with it. It wasn’t until I randomly decided to try og FF7 for the first time in 2021 (yes, I was over 20 years late to the party), but it was with FF7 I rediscovered the magic of video games and it led me to play more of the older classic titles like Half-life, Metal Gear, Super Metroid, etc.
Fallout 3 holds a special place in my heart because my mom bought me a copy when I was a kid. I think about it every time someone mentions their favorite games. I know it’s not the best Fallout-that honor definitely goes to New Vegas, and for good reason-but Fallout 3 will always be dear to me.

Battle Brothers is THE game for me. I cant wait to try the devs next game; tis the ONLY game i have allowed any hype for in literal years. As always, and I know (you) saw my first comment... Masterfully crafted game. Endless fun & story/RPG ability...
I am also grateful for Warhammer: Vermintide II... Growing up reading novels like Gotrek & Felix, my child imagination DREAMED of experiencing Warhammer Fantasy in another way. And I have got to via Vermintide as well as Total War Warhammer games.
But Vermintide II is one for me. Near a thousand hours, its one me and one of my closest friends can always hop on and do some runs on with genuine awesomeness guaranteed.
Stronghold Legends will always hold a very special spot in my heart, having grown up waiting 1.5hrs for it to just load on terrible laptops as a kid... I carried the booklet of its manual around with me all the time to read (along with Age of Empires III; they also had an AWESOME booklet... And game for little me : )
Notable Mentions / Memories / Huge Impact:
    - Dunes of War, the tank game! Got it at a Half Price Books, like many of my games as a kid...
    - Minecraft, of course...
    - Borderlands 2 (tis a masterpiece)
    - Men of War, Supreme Commander, Diablo 2 & 3, Company of Heroes....
(my uncle introduced me to gaming with many these... I miss him. Hope to repair our relations someday soon, ah...)
I know I'm forgetting some but. Must forgive my memory currently, am in a state of recovery, aha...
And of course, am grateful most for all the moments had across many games with the friendgroup i met and made via, I wholeheartedly know, through total fate.
I never ever used voice chat online, didnt type too much except very rarely... But the day I met 2 of my best friends, they were just so, so funny and cool sounding, I knew I HAD to do something to make an impression... And the odds. The odds we all joined a 0/8 player server on OG game Insurgency, at the same time and moment... And that I was compelled enough to make an impression... Bah. Twas a moment of fate, not scientific odds, and my heart will never feel differently.
After that I made a discord, joined up, and met everyone else. Moved across the country & lived with them... Ahh. The Golden Era.
    Time flies...
Enjoying your vids, glad I found them. I love the thumbnail aesthetic you use so much, glad you mentioned it aha. Ya little intro too! Very nice.

A unique video from a unique channel. I wish you all the success :). As a lightweight pass-the-time non-gamer, I never stuck into any specific game for many years. Cyberpunk 2077 was the first game (post Phantom Liberty update) which gave me such a connection, and I think it will be on top of my list. It made me get into the hobby deeper than any other previous game did, and I am happy for that :)
