Using optical turned the Beam 2 into a Beam 1 or maybe a Sonos Ray depending on audio input. I have two Beam 1, Beam 2, Arc, and Arc Ultra (20 Sonos pieces in all). Mostly for TV viewing and whole house audio a few times a month. I don't like voice control, use Apple airplay for music, and we have iphones/ipads. This seems to work for me and I like the flexibility to add/move around Sonos/Symfonisk pieces as needed.
By the way don't use the optical link, Atmos will not work via optical as it has not enough bandwidth to carry all the channel data with the object based data. I own the Samsung HW-Q990D, best purchase i've made in years. One of the best you can get when it comes to price vs quality. The 656 Watts of output is also nothing to laugh at, this thing will shake your home if that's what you want. Watching Godzilla X Kong... When those titans roar... you will hear AND feel it.. the neighbours probably too.
Thanks for your comment. I ended up using the optical link because I was using it on an older TV that did not have the HDMI arc output. I agree with you that going forward, I would be looking at something more reliable like a Samsung soundbar.
Why would anyone buy another Sonos product at this day and age? They are outdated and terrible. Completely closed off environment. In fact, I will even go far as to say, I am surprised they are still in business. Too much sizzle, no steak. Very little value for your buck, both in terms of hardware and their app. Stay away.
Having experienced this latest device, I agree with you. I invested early in the Sonos systems, and found various issues that I had hoped that they would have remedied by now. However, the observations that you have made seem to continue to persist, and this will also be my last Sonos purchase.
Could you please elaborate on a better cost effective system? I have some older Gen 1 Play 5’s which are quite dated and problematic at times but can’t afford the newer Sonos gear. I feel it’s overpriced too.
