  • If you run out of fuel, change the filter or service any part of the fuel system chances are you'll need to prime the system. Here's how it's done on a 2012 2.0 TDCi.
Same principles apply to most modern common rail diesels. Consult your service manual for more details. If you're not sure on what you're doing seek professional help. Diesel parts are expensive.... This video is for entertainment purposes only.

Thank you for this video. I like the way you didn't edit out the more difficult parts and showed how you couldn't get a good seal at first. I know what to expect now and have the confidence to do it myself. There are 3 different designs of the 2.0 140 PSA TDCI and yours is the only video I could find with the same fuel lines and clips as mine

I’m a young Australian mechanic, working in England, I did a fuel filter for the first time on this car today and it wouldn’t start and ended up blowing compressed air through from the filler neck of the tank while depressing the bleed valve on the intake hose. I tried many other things before that. A man I work with knew how to do it and had that hand pump but didn’t help me. Would be good if I worked with people like you. Strange to learn not at work but at home on TH-cam but that’s 2021.
I’m from South Australia and we have a brewery from there named Coopers and my favourite beer the Coopers pale ale has the green label like that one you have. If you haven’t tried it, I recommend it. It’s unique as it’s bottle brewed and retains the yeast residue.

Awesome. Thanks for the feedback. I love Coopers, but it always gives me a headache

Good info! Just changed fuel filter on my Duramax. It still has a hand prime on it. I fill filter with diesel 1st. I have a cheap electric fuel pump I have bleed/primed diesels with it.

This is the ONLY video on this subject I can find that bothers to explain the whole process and the principles, including the line identification. It amazes me why some people bother to upload videos with no value whatsoever, simply showing a clear tube with bubbles in it - "Here's me priming my diesel". Useless.
This video here on the other hand I have now bookmarked under 'Actually valuable'.
    Many thanks.

Use a sump oil recovery hand pump i got one at my local mower shop for under $20 and dont use the return line use the bigger supply line with the white connector to suck the diesel back up to the engine takes 5 seconds clip the line on and she will start right up

Great tip about using a hand pump! If that filter were mounted the other way around... you'd be able to fill more & pump less.

+Thomas EXOVCDS That's what she said! Stupid place for a filter

A mityvac suction pump or your electric sucker wound prevent the carpal tunnel syndrome of that milker deal you used. LOL. I'm not a fan of the wheat brews , I think the one you tried uses spring water from the Hudson River . All the diesels I see have a pump built into the system for bleeding. I have never seen any on cars just trucks. Nice vid buddy on to more brews.

+STEVE ROB Too much wheat is not a good thing in my opinion. Seems common in a lot of 'craft' beers. Any pump will do! My electric one is still in my bad books and can be a pig to prime in itself. Need one like your new ones but they're big bucks here. Cheers
