  • Investment banker turned international hotelier Chris Ong, upon returning home to Penang in 2007 due to family reason, purchased a decrepit Anglo-Indian bungalow in Clove Hall Road on what was once the Sarkies Brothers estate.
Where others saw decay and neglect, Chris could visualize grace and beauty. More properties were acquired namely, Seven Terraces, Muntri Grove, and the latest addition to the list is Jawi Peranakan Mansion. Each hotel showcases a range of 19th-century architecture, integral to Penang’s history and heritage.
In this follow-up , Chris Ong, the owner of George Town Heritage + Hotels, shares more on his efforts to preserve and rejuvenate Penang's cultural heritage.

What a great interview with Chris!! Hope he will inspire more people to incorporate Peranakan ideas of decor and celebrations in the lives and have a deeper understanding of the genesis of the culture!! Maybe Chris will have a book documenting his journey with his projects? Great video! Many Thanks!!
