  • This is how I use regular 2 inch trucking straps for tree work. I keep 2 of these in my rigging bag at all times. Get some...

Love that little tip for customizing them straps. Never thought of that and I’ve had the metal fail under a big load! Thanks

First video I've seen using ratchet straps for arborist work. I've used them and tow straps on trees around my property and they've never failed. Well done!

Cool use of our straps! To save you work and time, we do sell as a lashing strap already so there would be no modification needed!

I'd definitely say that's the most appropriate method of use for ratchet straps in a tree that I've ever seen. Thanks for sharing!

Great idea, I especially like the idea to deploy them to hold together the codominant stems to make a stump cut.

Love the modification of eliminating the hooks! Great idea when they are mainly only used to go around objects for compression and holding in these tree work scenarios. I’ll have to do that to a couple of mine 👌

Have been using modified ratchet straps just like that for years. The best & safest way by a long shot. Always minimise the points of connection.

Thank you for sharing. First off, all your videos are very well edited. I've been watching your videos for a while and learned so much from them. I'm a beginner and learned everything about tree cuttting from youtube and your videos help groom my skills. My preferred rigging knot is also the Daisy Chain hitch which I learned from your videos. Lately when I search youtube for treeworks, I ended up watching a guy flying an airplane. So, I smashed your Subscribe button and can't wait til the next one.

Good stuff brother. We are taking down a lightning-struck pine with a codominant stem and a big split right down the main joint and we need some insurance to hold those stems together while we blow out the tops. I wasn't sure if I was crazy thinking we could rachet strap it....nice to see it's legit

I also use this Straps for the Rigging Poller. But I neuer modificate the device. Simply put the hook into the "screw / bolt " of the ratchet. That is it. And the Straps can be used also convetional

Wow I’ve been using truck load straps for a route 25 years now totally randomly when I needed to people always think I’m crazy you just gave me a new idea of how to make my job easier thank you. I mean with the single strap I always connected the ends either very carefully or with carabiners.

One of your best content videos yet. I've been blessed & cursed with old homestead land. Like 25 years ago b4 I started farming on it & fencing the land was so thick u could see 10 yards in any direction. By far much worse than the dead red oak wilt is the old growth choke 🍒 🌳. These r huge & heavy & always leaners or co-dominant. Very inconsistent & dangerous. I actually have been using these straps with them & have 2 leaning in opposite directions strapped together with 1 of these & backed up with heavy rigging rope. I have a co-dominant ash that I needed 2 of these straps to hold cuz the east side would have fallen on our doorstep by now. Split in a north to south configuration from 8 foot up to the ground. Thankfully they have stopped moving & I have a large maple that I've placed a blue Amsteel rigging line to make the job safer. The side that will remain is very straight & doesn't fork & spread like the weak side. I'm fortunate I started doing the arborist work some time ago or it would be overwhelming. Thanks again and take care.😉

Dude rent a huge excavator for 1500$ delivered and push em over safely. I’m a tree removal professional and whene it gets that nuts, that’s how you handle it. If it’s one tree, yeah work it over however you need to, but with high volume danger, push em right over roots and all. Do acres per day. Get a minimum 20 ton machine on a low boy and dig the roots on one side, reach 45* up the tree and using the heal of the bucket, not the teeth, push it over. If you don’t want the root ball out, push the tree, face cut it and back cut it, then finish pushing it over.

Great sharing. I have 20 of these - some only 20 feet, some 25 feet and of these some ratcheting and some just towing straps - about 12 years ago a local big box store (Chicago, USA area) had them free-after-rebate and then later only $2.00 after rebate. Now they are $10. I also have a couple of the 3" straps that are 30-feet long and 30,000-pound breaking strength. I once strapped an 80-foot tall with about an 80-foot branch circumference honey locust together and then felled the whole tree - I had five big branches strapped together. The tree was 2-feet from the house and raised deck. I also sometimes connect straps together with the old rubber band method - make sure the connection has one side "breakable knot". I have used these to pull trees or stumps with a cum-along. The straps also make great anchors around other tree trunks - where a log chain or cable might dig into the bark. I really like your videos. Keep them coming. Stay safe. And thank you for updating the tree "bible".

Fell through a garage from 50 ft with a piece that came down and crushed his head in. Im so glad you make this videos and find the saftest ways possible to work and share it with the world. Thank you

I like that you have presented this…
I’ve seen tree base anchors which to my eyes look identical to a standard transport ratchet strap which is where my searching has found this video…
Anyway, I’m always exploring the use of equipment from other industries and it’s good to see you don’t just buy EVERYTHING from an Arb Supply store ;)

OMG, today on Sunday I saw my browser was sitting at 1:06 and upon seeing the position of the Stein RC-1000 it looked like a religious crucifix (outstretched arms, even with spots for eyes and eyebrows on the head! Pondering the color yellow, it supposedly stands for happiness, optimism, enlightenment, creativity, and sunshine... or on the negative side yellow implies cowardice, betrayal, egoism, madness and even caution or physical illness. But since the word stein implies beer, as does the color yellow, let's forget all the subliminal messages and have a brewsky - hehe 🍻

Nice one Patrick thank you - straps are a life saver in situations where a tree is compromised. There are cheap straps available but don’t touch these, the mechanisms are poor quality and they don’t have load ratings on them.

What is your experience with corrosion and rusting ratchets. They cant be around wet of saltwater climates as they will rust out. What about marine grade ratchets? They would last forever in any climate including tree work, boating, and transport
