Digger is a beautiful Clydesdale who has a bright future. He did not suffer from neglect or cruelty by his previous owners. They were good people who were suffering from their own health problems so they entrusted him to WHW. At 19hh he is huge but he is not the biggest or tallest horse in the UK. At the moment that record goes to Prince, a Shire in Kent who is 19.2hh. Great to see that he is now a drum horse for HM Queen. I have two beautiful Clydesdales and adore this fabulous and rare breed of horse.
I just looked Digger up on World Horse Welfare's website. They had to put him down in December 2017,because his health was deteriorating. He'd developed absesses that didn't respond well to treatment,he was in pain and in low spirits, withdrawn. At least he did get in another eight years of happy living as an ambassador for WHW.People loved to come and visit him.
Every 2 years or so someone goes up to the woods behind my house (it's not my property) and they use these gorgeous Clydesdales to pull the logs and branches out from the woods. I love it because not only are horses beautiful, but they're eco-friendly, don't require gas, and are extremely strong. They can get into places where tractors can't and it's nice knowing that people still do this :)
What a big old teddy bear he is!!! I hope he's doing ok and that he's in a good home. You can tell he's a big softie, and he'll be wonderful for anyone who gets him. I'm a big lover of horses, and I say God bless all these people who are doing their best to get these horses out of deplorable conditions. There ARE good people out there!
He caught my heart immediately. What a lovely horse. So full of life and energy. Too bad i live in Swe, otherwise I would have assigned to take care of him
i love drafts espeially clydesdales. i've almost never hear one getting into big trouble and i've always heard that they are sweet and just big teddy bears. i've met one or two draft horses (i can't remember what it was exactly) they were just so sweet and gentle.
would love to rehome a horse like digger. Have looked in to getting a horse for our forestry business for years and to rehome one would be simply magical.
I just read that he was put down at the end of 2017 because of health issues :( But he apparently led a very happy life up until then, thank you WHW for doing everything in your power for this gentle giant!
He looks like he would be a good ride. I used to ride a Percheron and now I ride a miniature draft. They are amazing rides until you get to the canter then bareback does not work so well.
I remember when I was working at a rest home and we had Ben he was a shire kinda dapple grey patching and he broke his pelvis and his back legs would swing quite far apart but it just shows that not every horse with a problem gets put down I remember him like yesterday and he been gone over 20 yrs plus il never for get him nor others I got attached to ,,,🥕🍏🍎🙏🏻🙏🏻
If I am right, I remember seeing him on tv doing something to do with the queen, and I think he might also be the tallest horse in the uk, either way, he did really well :)
A lot of companies these days use heavy horse breeds for logging - they're more environmentally friendly, and can access areas where tractors/lorries can't.
If the World Horse Welfare were a little less focused on how useful a horse can be - horses can be a blessing and that is useful enough! Any other use after that - is a bonus. I also will pray he finds a good forever home.
So terribly sorry, that Digger hat put to sleep. If I only could I would do everthing to save all poor horses because horses mean everything to me.Wish you all the best.
So ... what happened with the chronic lameness issues in his rear hind leg(s) and joints? ... did he get the exploratory orthopaedic surgery needed ... or did he have to get put down? An update for digger would be fantastic. Thank you. Oh dear ... I have just read a recent comment mentioning he was put down in 2017. I guess the surgery wasn't an option or unsuccessful ... sad news.
He's enormous all right! 700 Kg is gigantic but his head is not very large. Hope the recently announced economic cutbacks at Buckingham Palace won't affect him much.
Beings that it's been almost eight years since this video was up loaded, his future has been determined already. But I was thinking of the Budwiser farms in America. If he's a huge horse and getting bigger he might be a tourist attraction.
He looks like he would be a good ride. I used to ride a Percheron and now I ride a miniature draft. They are amazing rides until you get to the canter then bareback does not work so well.
+hosaylover101 I know right! My mum has a Percheron, she rides him bareback, jumping, XC you name it shes jumped it on him. I got on him and came off in canter....
So sad to read that Digger was put to sleep in 2017 due to ongoing health problems. Such a beautiful, majestic animal, RIP big guy.

what a gentle giant ! old video so I'm praying this fine horse was given a great home and able to work!
I love to watch the horses happy and playing in the field! I hope Digger's leg issues were resolved, he seems to have a sweet temperment.
My wife's old TB was 18.2 hands. He was 34 when he passed (2007). He was the biggest horse I'd ever seen. Digger is so handsome.
What an awesome horse. ! ! Hope he finds a forever home.
