one of my favorite songs of all time. ive probably listened to 3 different versions by michel camilo at least 10000 times. but this one is just as epic. the sound is so tight from drums, big band and piano. BIG THUMBS UP :D
Tommy is one of the underrated greats of drumming. Definitely needs more respect!
That first alto player absolutely rips on that solo
Of course it's Marc Russo...... Tower of Power, Yellowjackets, Doobie Bros.....
he uses pantene
one of my favorite solos of all time! I've seen it dozens of times!
@@davidkane5016 make sure to check out Russo's "live @ Yoshi's" solo on this tune too- th-cam.com/video/U5XqLHQQ3nE/w-d-xo.html
0:41, that upwards hit of the cymbal is so badass. Looks cool as fuck. Tommy and the band are great musicians!
Got to see him and the band right after he put out "11". They showed up at the last minute up here in northern Michigan doing some Opera House tour and I seen the add on TV. Told the wife we're going. Awesome show for a last minute thing. Glad I got to see him.
6:21 he's a monster
thought he was gonna take out a mirror and start combing his hair to show off even more but ok...lol
What a douche.
Wow! On top of being an amazing player, Igoe knows every single note of that chart. I mean the orchestration! Holy smokes.
I mean, that is his band.
The fill starting at 5:09 is crazy. Great chops AND musicality.
I saw Camillo play this live with Cliff Almond, And Anthony Jackson in 2000. They killed. But Weckl's studio performance on Why Not? One of his best ever.
Nice Big Band Arrangement!
Tommy made it simpler, (for big band) and hit all the figures, well done!
Unforgettable! I saw him a year or two earlier with Jackson and El Negro. One of the most inspiring, joyful, energetic, and mind blowing performances I'll ever see.
Perfect timing to throw in the Mozambique! 4:20
Pretty freakin' amazing.. 🎶🎸🎼
Can't help but smile listening to this. Absolutely brilliant!
I love amazing drummers. Needless to say, I love this guy.
TOMMY IGOE KILLS IT
Tommy is the best big band drummer imo. And one of the very best in general. Tommy, Todd, Gergo, Danny Carey, is part of my strange list of inspiring drummers.
A burnin' arrangement by a master drummer and his big band! Great solos as well!
i love watching the joy in these musicians faces......it makes me happy
The Sax Player is None other than Marc Russo of the Doobie Brothers! He is awesome. Have seen him perform with them in concert! WOW
First class...well executed. TI is the man!
Es todo un tesoro esa pieza
Tommy is a bad, bad man! Monster!

38 years ago, I used to go down to Mikell's in New York and catch Dave Weckl with Michel Camillo's band and Dave used to just kill on this tune. Between Dave and Anthony Jackson on bass, they could make breaking a plate sound musician.
bravo !!!!!
That's one massive collection of talented individuals right there. Amazing

I just met Tommy a couple of weeks ago and now I know he is a drummer You can always learn something from. And the first thing is You have to have fun when playing . I'm sure that's why he is always smiling. Though this kind of music is not popular in my country I'm living it. What a talented musicians they are! Best wishes for them all and greetings from Ecuador!
Nice
Here's Camilo's band that original recorded that tune.
Michel Camilo - New York Band - "NOT YET"
Igoe is amazing, but Cliff Almond is a BEAST
jacques prevert This is robotic compared to Cliff.
very nice
ohhhh master michel camilo
That was a really great performance, really really great performance. Hope see new videos like this. Thank you for share.
soooo tight:)
How does he remember such intricate lengthy songs? Lol I can't even remember what I did at my job yesterday lol
WOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!!! 😅
ありがとう。
Has he been playing Yamaha for a while now? I haven't seen much from him lately but he's still one of the best. Definitely the most underrated
Wooo!!
tommy you have the beat
Dope!
4:18, Tommy, left hand...he´s doing it live!
wooooooooooooo!!!!
Tommy has chops but so does every drummer in the Airmen of Note.
There's chops, then there's causality.
bagus banget!
that was insane
I FUCKING LOVE THIS DRUMMER!!!! Come and play in my band!!!!!
+brassholio ahahah Calm down man! He is Tommy Igoe!
Hahaha. I wish. dudes first real gig was on Broadway.
Wow
I came here to clean my ears after studying some Maynard Ferguson stuff. I needed to hear a challenging “modern” big band arrangement that was played well AND actually sounds good. I am not disappointed. This band is 200% tighter, better in tune, tone and balance than any iteration of the Ferguson band that I’ve found. And SO much more fun to hear.
I now have to ask myself, “is this drumming over the top in the same way Maynard’s (and his trumpet section) playing is over the top? Is it the same attitude, and do I only like it better here because I am a drummer? Hard to say. But it’s clear that the band is playing better and the arrangements are more pleasant to listen to. Do these arrangements depend on such busy drumming? Or could it sound as good with simpler yet still clean and energetic drumming? I’d like to hear Tommy play it as if he was a sideman instead of frontman once, to see if he’d do it differently. Or maybe to hear another great drummer play it in sideman fashion. I’m thinking it would still be great because it’s a good arrangement and a great band. Tommy’s humor and attitude put it over the top and give the band an identity that reflects his personality. I’m not knocking that; it’s fantastic. I’m just curious what would be different if…
That Spiral Trash! I want it!!!!
Groovy with some nutty syncopation.
5:10-5:19 what amazing thing!
Intense.
I love tommy igoe, and this is a cool exciting tune, and the title IS "Why Not?"... I think the soloists style of play there clashed a bit with the "islandy" or "dancey" form of the band...
This dude is good and he knows it,acts like a Diva
The groove change from 1:50-2:05 🤤
good
I know this arrangement. Have it on two different Michel Camilo CDs including the 'Caribe' Album
good for you, Gary . . . we're so much ricer for knowing that. . . lol
, ............... sauber !
This drummer can freeze time
For such an argumentative place as the internet I never see people disagree with the notion that Tommy is the best drummer on the planet.
George Kolias is.
Cory Acerra I thin you're delusional... there is no Latin feel at all to this version. It sounds like a music school recital. Go check out Cliff Almond who's playing with Michel Camilo now, if you want to hear how the song should be played.
@@maeu59 There's no "should be," there are just different interpretations.
There's no "best drummer on the planet"
This guy makes me want to put my drums in the trash. Man great chops.
Killer groove and shots, and still finds time to straighten his hair at 6:20!
Yea, Buddy never did that! :)
4.20 thumb-index technique on the left!
3:43
when you have a solo with Tommy Igoe at 5 but a date at 6
