    Really enjoyed this! We visited DC for the first time last month and loved it. Took the Circulator bus on the red line to the Roosevelt memorial and walked through many others. Great to see the other neighbourhoods in your video that we missed! :)

    The DC circulator, a marvel of public transport.

    I will say - when I was in town visiting a few months ago the national mall route was a lifesaver especially to get to the Jefferson and MLK monuments - after a long day of logging way too many steps in the museums :)

    The thing I like about the circulator is the oddball buses they use. Of course they have New Flyers which are common in the DC area, but they also have Proterra electric buses and some unusual mid-engine Van Hool buses.

    About Dupont Circle: There was a tunnel for streetcars, separate from the vehicular tunnel. There was a station in the middle with white tile walls, which made it look like a New York subway station.
    Buses replaced the streetcars in January 1962, but they were too tall to go through the tunnel. So the buses had to go around the circle, which had several traffic lights. Isn't progress wonderful? NOT
    The tunnel is still there, but the stairways have been sealed off. In the early 1990s, some entrepreneur tried a food court called Dupont Down Under. It didn't last long.

    The interesting bus that you rode on the light blue line is a 2009 Van Hool A300K bus, and there arent much system that use them anymore so it's a pretty rare bus to see.

      It's interesting that the AC doesn't work well on those buses in DC because the University of Minnesota has a fleet of larger mid engine vanhools and the AC almost never works on those either.

      @@zacharyabelson8196 these buses are pretty much known for their broken AC units, the A300s on AC Transit also have faulty ACs

    Thanks for this video. I do have some more questions. Are there three "legs" on the Red/Mall circulator route or all they connected? It appears on their Circulator brochure that they might not be connected with each other? It says "Circulator National Mall Transfer Location" in the brochure what does that mean? Also, is there a good Circulator app? And, how do you find the Circulator stops? Many seem to be hidden?! Thanks.

      The National Mall route is all connected. The transfer locations are just convenient places to go the other way without having to ride the entire loop. I use Apple Maps or Google Maps to find stops and all are marked with a sign as shown in the video. You could also use the brochure. Hope this helped :)

    Nathan, good day. How do you pay for the ride. Do I need to get a Metro card? What card should I purchase?

    How much time does the Circulator National Mall round trip take?
    Can you get off at the various monuments/memorials to see them and get on another bus? I'm guessing you have to pay $1 each time you get on.

    Very helpful, as I plan to visit DC in a couple of weeks. One questions. Do you need to purchase a ticket to ride the Circulator, or can you pay cash on the bus? Thank you.

    • @nathantransitj
      @nathantransitj  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can either pay with a SmarTrip card which can be purchased at any metro station or you can put one dollar in the farebox for each passenger. Be aware that it’s two dollars per passenger on any non-circulator bus in DC.

    Went to DC and was expecting to ride the Circulator around the Mall. Picked on up at Union Station after waiting 20 minutes. It was just sitting 20 feet from the stop. If finally came. We wanted to go the the Smithsonian Mansion. The driver said it would take an hour. We got off across the Mall from the mansion and crossed the street. When the time came to take it back to Union station or at least close, it never came. The app showed it was up the street from the stop and stayed there for 30 minutes. We decided to walk and noticed that it never passed us during our walk. Very unreliable. Next time we go to DC we'll take a tour bus or Uber.
