Nathan's Transit Journeys
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 12 พ.ค. 2016
Informative and entertaining videos in which I ride trains, buses, and other forms of public transportation.
I made this channel to both encourage myself to go outside and explore different transit systems, and to validate my desire for travel. The channel also acts as a sort of personal time capsule for my adventures so I can reminisce in the future.
New videos on Saturdays every other week and the occasional Short.
Constructive feedback is always appreciated!

Italy's Little-Known Gadgetbahns
Hello!
In this video I explore and review two Italian transit systems that I consider "gadgetbahn" candidates: the Perugia Minimetro and Bologna's Marconi Express.
A gadgetbahn is essentially an unconventional mode of transit whose purpose could be better fulfilled by a traditional bus, tram, or train.

มุมมอง 2.4K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
Hello! In this video I ride all four bus lines in the Washington Metropolitan Area numbered "33," the most common bus number in the area. This journey took me through many different urban and suburban environments, and it was surprisingly fun. I hope you enjoy! *Technically, there are also four "32" lines but the 33s were slightly easier for me to ride.

Never thought I'd have the chance to talk about the Minimetro but here we are! I actually live in Perugia and have been using it since high school, and many people including me see it as a waste of money that could have been MUCH better spent on anything else Keep in mind perugia is a city of 160,000 inhabitants Just like any gadgetbahn it does a couple specific things really well while being impractical on the issues that actually matter. The system exists specifically for the historic city center on top of the hill, problem is that the city center really isn't where the city actually lives and breathes. It's where the tourists and some university students go, but it doesn't really serve the actual lively sections around the hills and in the valley The cable system is absolutely the issue. It's complex and stretched for more than 3 kilometers, which leads to exhorbitant costs that force the whole system to close at 9 PM, and even on special occasions like UmbriaJazz it never stays open beyond 11 PM. The grades have been made to be steep, one can't help but wonder if more tunneling would have allowed a more efficient steel rail system to get below the historic section, making for a dramatically more cost effective and useful system that could have actually been expanded since conventional rail is much easire to expand than a wheel-cable contraption And the main problem about it is that it feels like a vanity project. The costs involved have always been astronomical, and all that money should have just gone to more Buses, which the city ABSOLUTELY needs right now. Outsiders need to understand that the actual jobs, schools, universities and activities are outside the city center, far from any connection to the Minimetro, and the suburbs are even worse. Buses are way too infrequent, with a TOP frequency of 30-40 minutes! That is simply insane, no wonder the car ownership rate here is a staggering 85%. TL;DR The Minimetro doesn't actually connect meaningful parts of the city, and that insane amount of money would have been better spent on making buses more frequent and convenient to give people an actual alternative to driving. It does get a couple things right like frequency, but fails at being anything more than a cool ride you'll never actually use
Washington Metro Subway is better than Baltimore Subway
I love the MARC Train i been so many times its got more comfortable seats
Happy your trains are front facing and America is not crowded. But in the Philippines, Railway is living hell
getting off a 14 hour international flight and then having to be stuffed like a sardine into one of those people movers is one of my most hated things about flying into Dulles. It seems that rather than having two of them available after a flight lands so that you can have a comfortable experience, their standard operating procedure is to literally stuff us into just one of them so that we are shoulder to shoulder and tripping all over each other. absolutely horrid.
DASH Bus seating is very very similar to ART Bus the transit company for Arlington share similar seating although they have a digital dotted scrolling information screen inside the bus. And every typical school morning. Students have to mash the Request Stop.
What is this "spanish solution"? Brazil is not a spanish country
you can see my window in the part where he's leaving manhattan on the williamsburg bridge
You needa make a train buddy to do these adventures with lol. Would make better content too!
12:49 that´s very useful, it saved me several times, some are actually free, you leave your credit card number when you sign up, but if you return it in 24 hours it is free of charge. Given the unstable climate of São Paulo, especially in summer, when storms come out of nowhere it can be really helpful.
This video greatly reduced my anxiety about my upcoming trip. Thanks!
Better than the green line😂
2:56 Bombardier? The aircraft manufacturer? Didn't know they make trains.
I always ask my Portuguese language students to spell this word when they are learning the alphabet 😅
I see you haven’t ridden VTA light rail LOL.
Wow !! At last.!! A travel video which actually shows us Brazil.!! Instead of endless close up shots of the video maker's face..!! I watched 3 videos in a row and they were all basically 15 minutes Selfies with maybe 2 minutes of actual footage of Brazil..!! So , well done.!! Other video maker's please note.???
I just got assaulted twice in the last 3 days by a guy on the light rail. I'm in high school. He's a grown adult.
Ahh, PenFed hell. I don't fly out of IAD much, but when I do, it's almost always through PenFed hell.
i have been in KIAD a lot and the tranposrtation from point a to point be is indeed hard

When I was a kid in the 70's I thought the lounges were planes with wings that fold. Arrived today on an international flight and I hate the lounges now. Had to pee bad and there is not a bathroom until after you take mobile lounge to customs. Customs in other countries is automated and takes just minutes. At Dulles its a 30 min plus line to wait for your turn with a customs agent. Between the mobile lounges and customs you dont get out of Dulles until after an hour from landing.
When YOU POST BACK NYC VIDEOS
Nah☠️ there's a chance has SHORTEST TRAIN ONLY 1 space
Mr. Natan, I noticed that you mention many imperfections in the subway and train lines and that you use the words “ridiculous” and “surprisingly”. Before trying to be an observer who tries to put everything on a plane of excellence, I suggest that first of all you try to be a little more pleasant with the public, who may also be Brazilians and that you don't get carried away by too many details, like the door number or floor color, or shoulder straps from one line to the next, or whatever is unpleasant to your eyes. Sorry, but what is ridiculous are your observations, which when trying to explain, end up coming across as pejorative. And honestly, I still don't understand the purpose of this video, if it's really to show the transportation system with all its problems, or if you're trying to inform the public how much you know about mass transportation methodologies. Apply and show us your ideas so they can surprise us. I also suggest changing the title of your video to "Nathan´s Confusing and Pointless Traffic Trip". Thanks.
This is not in São Paulo This is a neighbor city named Itaquaquecetuba
This is great
The thing about public-private partnerships in São Paulo is that Metro or CPTM (the public companies) design and build the new lines and GIVES AWAY to the private operator. They only have to take care of the operation, while their profits are guaranteed (if they receive less profit than expected, the government pays the difference). The PPP here is bs, they only want to make everything private.
Damn shame what could have been....
Criticising is easy. Experienced the metro system in Chicago (lived there for 5 years) and NYC. In comparison, the metro of São Paulo is much cleaner and less noisy. If you ever heard a subway train entering the station at Chicago O’Hare airport you know what I am talking about as far as noise is concerned…and talking about clean toilets…go to New York and do not forget to put a clothespin on your nose to avoid the smell.
Are u Brazilian? Ur pronunciation of the names of the stations was perfect!
You got a great style. Gonna miss your videos during your hiatus. Good luck with your studies.

A while ago, I wanted to meet a friend of mine, visiting from California and I told her to meet me at 86th and 4th in Bay Ridge (I live across the bridge on Staten Island and it's a quick bus trip for me to Brooklyn). I told her to take the N and transfer to the R at 59th and then go to 86th. I arrived at 86th and 4th, at the 86th Street subway station, I call her, tell her I am there, she says she is too, but where was she? She stayed on the N and got off at the 86th Street station in Gravesend.
Subway in Sao Paulo is amazing.
