Kuching is capital city of Sarawak, quite calm and quiet city with a lot of nature surrounding it.
This Kuching Sarawak vlog starts with some local foods, I went to local restaurant called IG AIS KACANG. I ordered Teh C Special right away as I got a lot of recommendations from you guys to try it. And It truly was one special yummy drink.
For food I ordered Belacan Beehoon Sarawakian dish that is actually my first local dish in Malaysia that I could not finish. I would describe it as extremely fishy flavor/sea flavor... I could not finish that, sorry Sarawakians..I don't like to waste food, but I just couldn't stomach it. I made me feel a bit better that lady in the counter also said she can't eat that neither. Try it out if you are in Kuching City, but be ready for that fish power.
Then I went for their other dish called called Kolo Mee with Crispy Chicken, that was a lot easier and I finished it all.
Then I headed to the famous Golden Bridge in the Kuching city to continue my vlog. Golden bridge has great views over government office and Malaysian tallest flag that cost whopping 30 million MYR to build.
On the bridge I met some travelers from Netherlands to my surprise they also went to Kota Kinabalu and even climbed the famous Mt. Kinabalu, super impressive. I also went to the Orchid garden that was surprisingly big and full of flowers.
Next up was to get the famous Butter cake from Mita Cake house and WOW, this butter cake smelled heavenly... must try when you are in Kuching area, wont be disappointed. After Mitas cake house I head back to my hotel to taste test it all.

the non halal kolo noodle is 100X better.
@@shadowmod3 maybe 😁 all depends on flavour
Hope that you have had a good time and a pleasant stay in Kuching.
Thanks, Yasin😌
@@Gymson Thank you too Kevin. Was this trip before or after Songkran? 😁
@@Yasin_Affandibefore
@@Yasin_Affandi This one was before 😊
@@Gymson Thank you Kevin. 😁
By nature, Belacan Bihun does have a strong flavour from the tiny shrimp paste. Even some locals can’t go with the taste of the century egg. Some claim it contains a strong smell of urine. The Kolo Mee served doesn’t look authentic. Perhaps, you should just try out from normal typical coffee shops.
Kolo Mee recommendations:
Oriental Park Cafe, on Padungan St. near the Seraton.
Further east on Padungan (past the 4 cats circle) on the north side is a small hawker center. I think the Kolo Mee from Ana Cooks (?) is the best I've had. My sample size is small, so YMMV.
"Pengkalan Sapi" means Cattle (sapi) Jetty/Port (pengkalan). That building you asked the security guards about is the Sarawak's Assembly Hall. It is not open to public.
30:24 Those trees at that open area are about a hundred years old. They're probably planted during the reign of the second white Rajah, Charles Brooke.
Cool, thanks for information ☺️
They don't serve Laksa Sarawak? You need to try that. It's not fishy at all.
In Next video will have Laksa Sarawak
Good morning Gymson, thank you for the beautiful vlog you did as your preference. Watching from Marudi Sarawak😊
Thanks for commenting, Janggut. I hope you have good day👋🏻
@@Gymson yes.. you are most welcome.
Welcome to sarawak ❤
Thanks 😊
Are you from Sarawak?
Currently in Kuching....Belacan is some powerfully stinky stuff. It's great in small amounts, but once it crosses the line.
There's a Nasi Lemak chain store on the waterfront that I would like to dine in...but the scent of belacan absolutely stops me at the door. (On the other hand, I ate pig intestine the other day.)
@@VagabondJim65 haha awesome, explore around and if you want a driver i hook you up with Jeffry. He can take you to crocodile farm, orangutans and many other spots. Price is very fair
@@VagabondJim65 yeah pelacan is next level, i think even locals don't go that dish very often 😁
@@Gymson I am limiting my getting around to walking. I need the exercise.
And, my goal is to simply spend time among the locals. This is an amazing place to just wander, sweat, sweat, sweat, and wander. And, to eat.
Loving the Kolo Mee, the braised pork, and (as always) the roti cenai!
Safe travels!
@@VagabondJim65 yeah that's cool, Same here I usually also do a lot of walking. Keeps you fit!👍🏼 safe travels man
Century egg for a westerner?? This century egg was used in that `Fear Factor' tv series decades ago to test on the courage of participants in taking it...& yet they recommended it to u😅
I ate century egg lol :D, its not too bad I guess. lol fear factor I remember that show, it was awesome. :D But yeah honestly shocking that he recommended me this dish.. :D
Mi Belacan is not for mat salleh tongue.some of mat salleh can't handle the belacan (Shrimp paste n the Century egg). because it taste a bit weird for mat salleh
@@jueriananelson9136 Ahaaa… it’s like a challenging food. Kinda similar like having durians for starters. Even many locals don’t take century eggs but that should be made optional in the serving.
Yeah fair point😄
Yeah it is not for everyone surely 😄
Nice see u Kavin, tq your video!🙏👍🤠🙏.
Thank you for watching 👋🏻
Thanks for visiting my state Kevin… next visit Miri in the northern part of Sarawak…
Sounds great, Frank. Next time😌👍🏻
U can go to a cafe open up by a youtuber named GLOBAL GIBBON...in KUCHING ,SARAWAK
Cool, maybe next time😁👍🏻 thanks for recommending
I really love the vibes you had with the fellow travelers from Holland. It's good to catch up with others' experiences while still traveling to be honest
Yeah, it's good to hear about adventures of others. They climbed Mt. Kinabalu... Shocking 😄😄
@@Gymson Yeah they’re absolute legends! You know the highest peak I ever climbed when I was in Malaysia was Broga Hill lmao 🤣
Used to be called Central Padang.
Kuching was called that?
@@Gymson
No, I meant the Merdeka padang/field in front of St Thomas church.
@@RUHappyATM Oh Okay now I understand :)
You should venture further into the interior of Sarawak for more unique content.
The natives are very welcoming now, no more head hunters like their forefathers were.😂
Haha yeah, sounds interesting 😊
You should try dayak food then you will taste the real Sarawak food, when you eat at Malay restaurant you will taste the food just like most of the Malay food around Malaysia, and the kolo mee you ate is the halal version ,you should eat the original Chinese kolo me ,that is much, more better taste
Yeah you're right😊😊i try to learn as I go and pick true authentic flavours
I live in kuching, I don't find mita butter cake that delicious..I have tasted much better butter cake
Oh okay, well that was recommended to me. And it was good, but maybe there are better ones😃
its okey bro.. i myself even cant eat the mi belacan.. its not for everyone.. dont miss the museum..
Thanks, yeah it's quite intense dish😄 I unfortunately missed museum, I don't want to spend too much 🥹
The waiter really just recommend you nasi lemak and ayam geprek(indo dish) when you asked for Sarawak dish. Bruh
Haha, good notice 😁👍🏼
Secret country but you look scandanavian.. just guessing 😄
Almost😁😁😁
Hi Stan from gunung mulu ,welcome to sarawak borneo Malaysia
Thanks for welcome😃👍🏼
What is the name of the shop? Looks nice
Umm i cant remember anymore, but i think its possible to see it from video if you look menu or some posters.😊
Try street food much better and cheaper
Yeah true😀 but sometimes harder to find
@20:48 hello boss - that's it you're officially Malaysian now 🤣
Haha😄 do you say that too Andy?
@@Gymson definitely it happens spontaneously 😆
That "governments building" is the Sarawak state legislative assembly building where all the sarawak assemblyman and politicians have their meeting..
Cool👍🏼
Sorry to hear you don't like century egg but I Iove it. The best is eat century egg with preserved ginger or mix with congee. The Sarawak laksa soup is very tasty too. You can also find it at some place in Kuala Lumpur.
Sarawak Laksa was delicious. But yeah that Belacan Bee hon not for everyone 😄😄 can you eat that?
Belacan is shrimp paste....
Do you like it?
You should go to iban long house,
Thanks for recommending, missed it sadly😄
@@Gymson My pleasure
You should stay in Sarawak untill GAWAI SEASON..
What is Gawai season?
Kevin to be fair your twisted Asian accent at times had me completely lost lol anyway soak up the vibes of my homeland cus there's always something captivating waiting just around the corner yea, much like the wonders of Sabah 🐱
My Asian accent 😄 do I have Asian accent? Was it hard to understand me🥹 Yeah, Malaysia is really nice country, love staying there.
@@Gymson eyy sorry mate my bad not the accent but the slang cus you did sound like it a bit at times lol
Welcome to Sarawak....im a sarawakian but never eat belacan bee hon my favourite mee is laksa Sarawak, kolok mee and mee jawa...you should try laksa sarawak and mee jawa sir....
Mee jawa, whats that sounds interesting :) Belacan beehon it pretty intense dish :D, it seems like a lot of people don't enjoy that :D
Welcome to Kuching, Sarawak. Hope you enjoy your time here. 🎉🎉
Thanks Luke, appreciate the welcomes. Are you from Sarawak?
The teh C special consist of tea , ideal milk and palm sugar and of course ice cubes. It tastes good. That's another delicacy is belacan beehoon in Sarawak but I guess the smell is quite heavy for you , its the smell of the shrimp paste. Anyway , have a nice stay. The mee kolok is always delicious
Sarawak Teh C special is so good, I miss it already haha. Beehoon pretty extreme dish. :D You are right Mee Kolok seems like a safe dish and always delivers :)
@@Gymson you can try to make the Teh C , add palm sugar , its the palm sugar that enhance the flavour beside the ideal milk. Do come back for another visit next time😊🤝
@@auntydannskitchen3009 Haha thanks for teaching, but I will drink it when in back in Sarawak. :)
@@Gymson yeahh , do come back cos there are alot more delicacies in Sarawak that you haven't tasted yet.
@@auntydannskitchen3009 thats right :)
Welcome to sarawak, the belacan bee hoon maybe not to your liking because of the fishy taste, it is ok if you don’t like it, you can try other dishes here in sarawak, have a nice day.
Yes, it's a intense dish for my taste😅😅 do you like it? Or whats your favourites
@@Gymsonmaybe you can try kueh tiaw goreng basah, one of my favourites dish in sarawak, also maybe you can try sarawak kuih lapis, can ask local, they will tell you where to buy.
"Bee Hoon" is really not that difficult to pronounce. You pronounce it like you would for the insect, and the second word just rhymes with spoon. I know in some Romance languages, "ee" is pronounced "ay", but that does not apply in Malaysia.
Haha cool, thanks for explaining :)
Can try kueh tiao tomato sauce/ crunchy mee tomato sauce
Sounds tasty😋
hello...wclm to Sarawak ..🤝🤝🤝
🤝 thanks, appreciate the welcome
Finally, I like your video content men. I went to Kuching very often and the food is still fair and new building place just do nothing
Thanks Ash :), great to hear that. What you most like about Kuching?
@@Gymson top spot. I wish I could go with you. You don’t have to go Kuching again. I’m not from there. I’m from Miri, Malaysia. You can go to mulu because of beautiful village

Belacan is dried prawn paste cake. Fermented.
Cool! It's very strong flavour. For true seafood lovers😄
Do you like it?
@23:40 cheeky! 🤣🤣🤣
Haha😁😁 funny sign
@6:23 Don't worry about something that's not your cup of tea. Not everything is going to be an instant favorite though. Just so you know I'm all for red pork kolok noodle (mi kolok babi merah) over laksa anytime
Yeah that dish was intense Andy, have you tried it😄😄
@@Gymson Honestly I've eaten everything on that plate, especially my fave the century egg. Actually it’s so yummy when you eat the egg with porridge though. You can find them at a Chinese stall for sure if you wanna do another century egg eating challenge, just saying 😅
Yeah i think the waiter should not suggest you the mee belacan dish.. too strong for western people taste bud
Haha true, Adam. He should give a fair warning :D, Do you like that dish?
