This album was the start of their transition from straight up rock to top 40 rock/pop type music. Their lead guitarist Gary Richrath wrote or cowrote a lot of their big hits and always added some great guitar solos, but he was more into the rock side and left the band in 1989. You must hear “Golden Country” from their live album You Get What You Play For. Gary Richrath wrote and originally sang the song. His solos on this song are epic!

Now he's liking reo Speedwagon and wants to hear more. 😒 People need to believe me when i guarantee they'll like a song.

You could NOT have said it better. REAL old REO was ok, they were still trying to develop their style (and find the right singer.) In the 80s REO was ballads ballads ballads...meh. But in between, around You Get What You Play For, that was REO's sweet spot, when they rocked as hard as anyone on the planet. Damn I loved them back then...& the one album that was unbelievable before Kevin Cronin, w/ Antiestablishment Man, Gypsy Woman's Passion, Sophisticated Lady, Prison Women (none of which was EVER played on the radio, but all of which blew all their ballad-y stuff away...man, you know what you're talking about. I always wondered if REO's gradual descent into Ballad Hell contributed to Gary Richrath's gradual descent into his own kind of hell, & his eventual exit from the band. Oh well. It's all history now. I will never meet you, but I pretend we are friends. You help me relive all of the nights I had friends over to listen to music in the way back.
Thank you for what you do.
I hope you enjoy yourselves as much as we do.

The 70s and 80s produced some of the greatest rock-'n'-roll...ever!
REO is one of the many underrated bands from that era.
    Their concerts were awesome!

Keep Pushin, Roll With The Changes, Keep On Loving You, Don't Let Him Go, In Your Letter....I could go on and on and on about these guys. Had one of the greatest guitarists in any genre, Gary Ritchrath. They were my very first live show and I was hooked. Incredible band

"Roll with the Changes" is one of my fave Karoake songs to sing, esp because Kevin Cronin's unique singing style is so imitatable (note how hard he sings his Rs...so midwestern!) This is fun, and as others have said was just SO ubiquitous for awhile. They have a lot of very solid tunes, kind of in the same family as this period of Chicago and Little River Band and Styx.

I've listened through their entire discography numerous times and a few songs I highly recommend that the casual listeners likely won't know are "I Do' Wanna Know", "One Lonely Night", & "Back In My Heart Again". Highly recommend the music videos for the first two.
