Most interesting and engaging. It has something of the sea song about it...a good one for hauling ropes to I would think

It's wonderful to see these hardworking people enjoying singing together as a community : ) Are the words in English ? All I can understand is Halleluja !!!

Yeah, the Irish singers do tend to be slightly clearer with the words in their videos

3:30 is about the time when they actually start singing words. The first half is just signing the notes.

Hi Benjamin : ) Is this note book music, do you mean they are using the book with the words in, rather than from memory ? Are they singing in English ? I can only understand Halleluja !!! What is fasola ? Katharine

It is called Sacred Harp. The notes are shaped and to "learn" the tune before singing you sing the names of the notes (Fa-So-La) without the words. At 3:25 the begin singing the lyrics.
This is a good basic introduction: th-cam.com/video/YaLnG7vfVOc/w-d-xo.html

Why is everyone screaming, trying to drown out his/her neighbor? I was always taught that one should never sing more loudly than one can sing beautifully.
Also, it was all note-note-note. No sense of any sort of line.
I love this song. How it was sung, not so much.

    Prefere black people's church songs

white and black folk sang "old book" music. While the black fasola communities have mostly died out, the few singers that are left are deeply respected in the wider Sacred Harp community.
