This is one of the most fantastically written hymns of all time! Martin Luther wrote this great hymn by elevating God and showing man’s depravity and total need for a Savior. Forget all those contemporary “Christian” songs that places “me” at the forefront and acts like Jesus is our boyfriend.
I came in here having read Martin Luther's story. God bless the great reformers and Robert LIARDON for capturing their stories. May men rise in our days again who will stand for nothing but the truth of God's word in Love and unbending conviction... AMEN 🙏
One of my favorite songs is have thine own way lord have thine own way thou art the potter I am the clay make me and mold me after thy will have thine own way. I‘be been singing this for almost fourty years if not more but I didn’t know the whole song until I looked it up on my cell phone. If you can get a hymnal like they use to have in most churches years ago. My terrible brother bought me a hymnal at a garage sale. I told him it worth more than gold or silver to me. I got a lot of gifts from my. Son and brother through the years I heard on my cell phone that they gave the gifts that was a cursed thing and I should try to burn them maybe that was true for many Christians but with me I believe that GOD has blessed me in spite of my family (biological)tried to mess me up I had a serious heart condition and nobody came to see me while I in the hospital my brother is only 200 miles away. I have a son in Hollywood Florida and another in Tampa Florida also relative’s in Jacksonville Florida and Georgia and tennesee .all southern states. Two kissing cousin’s didn’t come to visit only one friend (supposedly my exwife and my exbrother in law and sister in law . A Mighty Fortress was the theme song of the series "Davey and Goliath," presented by the Lutheran church to young baby boomers in the early 1960s. It was shown on Sunday mornings in the Oklahoma City market; I watched it before my parents took me to Sunday school and church.
@@EdKelley-b4t I only recently learned that this magnificent song, which I knew only as the theme song from Davey and Goliath, was A Mighty Fortress Is Our God

The version sung here was translated by Frederick H. Hedge in 1853, and is more popular with non-Lutheran Protestants. A more traditional Lutheran translation begins "A mighty fortress is our God, a trusty shield and weapon" and is from 1868 Pennsylvania Lutheran Church Book. The version Dave Howard references was written for the 1978 Lutheran Book of Worship (the "green hymnal" from ELCA Lutheran churches).

"God's truth abideth still. His Kingdom is forever." What a grand conclusion and assurance!
It comes wonderful as a regular "must see through" so that "mortifying the holy" comes half of Heaven drinks us all closermost.
These hymns are so powerful compared to the light-weight contemporary songs that being sung nowadays., as praise and worship songs.
Amen, @michellecassanova4715, amen!

I wish to thank you for sharing this awesome Christian Hymn video with me .
A mighty Fortress is our God
A Bulwark never failing
Our Helper He amid the flood
Of mortal ills prevailing
For still our ancient foe
Doth seek to work us woe
His craft and power are great
And armed with cruel and hate
On earth is not his equal
Did we in our own strength confide
Our striving would be losing
We're not the right Man on our side
The Man of God's own choosing
Dost ask who that may be?
Christ Jesus, it is He
Lord Sabaoth His Name
From age to age, the same
And He must win the battle
That word above all earthly powers
No, thanks to them, abideth
The Spirit and the gifts are ours
Through Him who with us sideth
Let goods and kindred go
This mortal life also
The body they may kill
God's truth abideth still
His Kingdom is forever
A mighty Fortress is our God
A Bulwark never failing
Our Helper He amid the flood
Of mortal ills prevailing
For still our ancient foe
Doth seek to work us woe

1 Ein' feste Burg ist unser Gott,
ein' gute Wehr und waffen;
er hilft uns frei aus aller Not,
die uns jetzt hat betroffen.
Der alt' böse Feind,
mit Ernst er's jetzt meint,
groß Macht und viel List
sein' grausam' Rüstung ist,

Der Fürst dieser Welt,
wie sau'r er sich stellt,
tut er uns doch nicht;
das macht, er ist gericht't;
laß fahren dahin;

das Reich muß uns doch bleiben.

There was a time when only qualified people wrote hymns. Now every nut head with a guitar writes one.
