  • Hello all!
This video is about the cutting boards that we build that sell to realtors! While posting pictures on social media of gift ideas I was completing of cutting boards for weddings or birthdays, a realtor reached out to me and asked me to build a cutting board for them so that they could provide as a gift to their client(s). I thought that making a cutting board was so easy, I could actually do this. One realtor led to another and multiple realtors were asking for us to make them cutting boards.
We started branding our cutting boards with an XTool laser engraver and then branched out more and started making designs on the cutting boards with the client's names. We even put the logo of the realtor on the back side of the cutting board.
The business took off and is steady with purchases and requests. The beauty of the laser engraving is that once you make it for one cutting board, you can save the design for another cutting board that a realtor wants on it.
There are many ways to make cutting boards. Many cutting board designs and many different shapes and sizes. My recommendation is stick to one size and style of a cutting board, however provide different color variations of cutting boards that will match the request for one's new home. This will be easier on the requests for YOU as the woodworker. You definitely don't want to work on one design for a realtor with multiple cuts on a cutting board and work on a simple, but yet beautiful cutting board for another.
Reach out to your realtor friends/family or even branch out to realtors you have never met and provide pictures of your cutting boards. Give three models of cutting boards. All different woods. Whether you make one cutting board strictly out of White Oak or Maple, one out of Walnut (I would substitute with Roasted Oak for more profit in your pocket), or even Cherry. These three color variations of cutting boards will BOOM!
Add accent pieces to each cutting board that will give it a stand out look. Add Purple Heart or Paduka for your accent pieces and your cutting board will stand out more than the others.
The goal is to make your cutting boards different than the others that could sell to the realtors. But what does a realtor seriously care for? That their client is happy, that the gift looks worth it and the main reason...... What can they put their business logo on with their name and number!!
Enter Laser Engravers!!! XTool 10W is the laser I chose and haven't added one accessory to it to accomplish the cutting board experience. Once dialed in correctly, you will use his laser engraver as easy as if you were editing a picture on your phone. I will be making a video soon on the steps I take to engrave a cutting board. So if you aren't subscribed, please do so because that video will be coming out soon!!!
I researched branding irons and as great as they are for branding a cutting board, they were limited to doing only one thing... BRANDING A CUTTING BOARD OR PROJECT! I figured for some more money, not only could I brand a cutting board, I can take this to the next level and design the buyer's names and add the realtor's logo on the cutting boards. It was worth every penny!
I hope this video helps get you started on making simple, but yet beautiful cutting boards that I know will SELL!!!
Thanks for the time and I hope to hear some successful stories in the comments soon!!!

Alex, thanks for the in-depth video! At 7:17 you mentioned that you'll be ending up with an end grain cutting board, but your result was still a face grain cutting board... you just used the other face. End grain cutting boards are those that have the end grain facing up. You could have achieved that with this cutting board if you were to have cut it into perpendicular strips after your initial glue up, rotate them 90 degrees, and did another glue up. End grain cutting boards almost always have some sort of block or geometric pattern to them.

Why wouldn’t you sand the board before you juice groove it? That way your not taking the surface down diminishing your groove. Then all you need to do it lightly hit the groove with a hand sanding.
