Frankly it’s absolutely absurd that it took this long. I figured he was already in. He’s in that rarefied air of greatest song writing duos in history. McCartney and Lennon. Jager and Richards. Page and Plant. Bono and Edge. So it’s absolutely ludicrous that he’s had to wait this long. I love Elton John. But Elton John isn’t Elton John without Bernie Taupin.
The Robert Palmer version (1980), and the Tina Turner version (1982) of the song, Johnny and Mary, was written completely by Robert Palmer (lyrics and music). The 1983 version of Johnny and Mary by Melissa Manchester had additional lyrics by Bernie Taupin.
Realistic candidates for giving the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction speech for Bernie Taupin... Elton John, Billy Joel, Rod Stewart, Sting, Alice Cooper, Ann and Nancy Wilson, Axl Rose, Rufus Wainwright, Lady Gaga, Brandon Flowers, Ed Sheeran

The Spinners - Thom Bell produced 10 of the Spinners albums, and he also produced Elton John's "The Thom Bell Sessions" album in 1977, and it was released in 1979. Willie Nelson - Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics for the 2002 Willie Nelson and Lee Ann Womack duet, "Mendocino County Line." Willie Nelson did a remake of Elton John's 1970 Border Song in 2018 for Restoration - an Elton John/Bernie Taupin tribute album. Kate Bush - Elton John fan. Kate Bush did a remake of Rocket Man in 1991 on the Two Rooms album - Celebrating the Songs of Elton John and Bernie Taupin. A live version of Elton John's "Tonight" performed by George Michael was included on the 1991 Two Rooms album - Celebrating the Songs of Elton John and Bernie Taupin. George Michael also did a live performance of Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me in 1991, with Elton John, which went to # 1. Sheryl Crow - Another Elton John fan. Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics to Dip Your Wings, a song from Peter Cetera's 1992 album, World Falling Down, which also had a song called Feels Like Heaven, a duet with Chaka Khan.

IMO, a partnership like Lennon/McArtney has far more potential because one guy could contribute a lyric. But that "collaboration", if it can even be called that, works for John/Taupin. It is an amazing collaboration because one would never know this seeing Elton play.. When Elton sings a song like "Tiny Dancer" it sounds so personal that you think that Elton wrote at least some of the lyrics. But it's all Bernie.
In recent years Bernie and Elton have discussed collaborating lyrics and music in the same room. They both have talked about that in interviews. Elton gets some lyrics by email now or Bernie gives them in person. How times have changed.

Great album
Thank you
Frankly it’s absolutely absurd that it took this long.
Most under prepared Interviewer ever
Well done Bernie, fully deserved, and very late with the award. Should of been given it a long time ago
Hall of R'nR Fame for Bobby Liebling !
IADT! ♥ you Bernie 🎶 ✌
👏👏👏👏👏👏
❤❤❤❤❤
gratz to Bernie; why you dis the other song writer who polled well in the "fan poll"? Warren deserves to be in the Rock Hall, decades ago.
As a teenager, I knew the first time I heard “Your Song” that Elton John and Bernie Taupin would be superstars.
Realistic candidates for giving the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction speech for Bernie Taupin...
Elton John, Billy Joel, Rod Stewart, Sting, Alice Cooper, Ann and Nancy Wilson, Axl Rose, Rufus Wainwright, Lady Gaga, Brandon Flowers, Ed Sheeran

What a duo! Bernie and Elton probably have more "hits" that sny other collaboration in mudic history.
THE 2023 ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES CONNECTIONS TO 2023 INDUCTEE, BERNIE TAUPIN
Don Cornelius - Elton John performed Philadelphia Freedom on Soul Train in 1975.
Elton John duetted with Kate Bush in 2011 for "Snowed In At Wheeler Street."
George Michael - Biggest Elton John and Bernie Taupin fan. George Michael performed on two tracks from Elton John's 1985 album, Ice On Fire - Nikita and Wrap Her Up!
She was the narrator for the VH1 Legends episode on Elton John in 1997. Sheryl Crow sang with Bernie Taupin on "Burn This Bed" a song from the 1996 Farm Dogs album called Last Stand In Open Country.
Chaka Khan - Not really a connection but... Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics to Dip Your Wings, a song from Peter Cetera's 1992 album, World Falling Down, which also had a song called Feels Like Heaven, a duet with Chaka Khan.
You, Bernie are quite deserving. The other acts -not so much
R&R Hall of Shame-phfft!
Oh my gosh🤭

For all intents and purposes, Bernie was already inducted 30 years ago with Elton. Bernie alludes to this at 02:00 when he mentions Elton called him onto the stage and handed him the award. Also note that when a band like Fleetwood Mac gets inducted, every member of the band gets inducted. And while Elton technically bills himself as a solo artist, Bernie is essentially an integral part of Elton's band...
It is also a fascinating very unusual partnership. Apparently, Bernie first writes *ALL* the lyrics and Elton puts them to music.
Elton in this clip says that they have never been in the same room and collaborated on *ANYTHING!*
th-cam.com/video/GdYD1XaEen0/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUVYmVybmllIHRhdXBpbiBzaW5naW5n
It obviously works but it is somewhat disappointing as I had always thought Elton had at least some part in the lyrics, because Elton sings the song as if it came from personal experience.
Elton John tem que entregar o prêmio para o Bernnie
where is Iron Maiden?
Without Bernie, there would be no Elton John
