Some bikes will have a drain bolt at the bottom of the forks making it incredibly easy to change the oil. Just drain, put a little bit of fresh oil in and pump the shocks to flush everything, drain again, and top up.
For bikes without the drain bolt, I use a tube and huge plastic "syringe" to pull out as much oil as possible, same procedure with a little fresh oil and pumping shocks etc.
For me this aligns with every 2 years roughly, saves me having to rebuild the forks that much more often.

If fork oil is meant to be changed so often then manufactures should make this an easier process. It's hard to self service without a headset stand and some decent skills to pull apart the forks etc.
I asked about changing the oil on my 2015 Honda vfr800 and was told it was 'life time' and didn't need changing which totally confused me?
It's getting changed next service only because I said I wanted it done (60,000 km).
