- This ant colony of the species Meranoplus bicolor is my current favourite ant colony I'm currently keeping and in this video I take you through the journey if the colony's development starting from just a pregnant queen ant all the way to a complete colony. It is also a special ant species to me because we were the first to discover their existence in the country in which I live. Introducing the awesome Species 555! Ant love forever! You deserve praise as a content creator, setting up these different colonies and then telling their individual stories is just awesome. It gets me totally invested in every one of these colonies and I always find myself waiting for new updates on them. Getting to almost 5 million subs with such a niche hobby as ant keeping shows how good your storytelling is and how well you manage your channel.

Sure, putting ants through catastrophic failure situations on purpose one after the other just for views. What a great responsible owner.
A fun story of mine from about 2-3 weeks ago. I did not have to go anywhere to catch a queen ant, because her majesty herself paid me a visit. I spotted one crawling on my pillow. I caught her into a small plastic container, put a wet cotton ball in there with her and released her the next morning. Thanks Mikey for your videos because I would have no clue what to do with her, other than throw her out from my balcony and potentially kill her. I hope she was successfully mated and started her own colony. Also she seemed happy to be back in nature.

Do your best to grow the Species 555 colony much bigger, I think they could be called the 555th Hunters, Spiny/Spiky Hunters or The Spades which I like the most.

I legit dont even like ants that much but I have been following this channel for LITERAL years. Learning about the world is interesting and the way ants act is very curious and interesting to me. Not even to mention this is quite the watch, entertaining, and nice background sound. Long term non-ant lover watcher, here for many more years. We nearing the 5Million AC-fam!
I still remember the blue ant 🐜 you found when you were on a vication. It would be cool if you have that blue ant species in your Ant house 😊
Yeah but Idk if they would survive in different conditions and it would be hard to own them as they probably need a wet/damp inveroment to survive happily
I'm pretty sure that the Blue Ant was just a Black Ant whose colour was a rare bad genetic that was made in her DNA, probably a form of Albinoism or Melanism which is a genetic disorder in her pigmentation (A.K.A: Melanin).

Ik how much you hear this but i really cant thank you enough AC you got me into ant keeping and have taught me so much! I would also like to say how much i ADORE these ants, I cant explain it i love when you post and always tune in to watch it but the feeling i got when you show cased this queen was AMAZING it was like i raised her myself and considering I'm very new to the hobby so none of my queen have laid eggs yet so that was awesome! I think name for the colony should keep 555 in the name, and their setup should be something in the quantity of five, for example five little islands connected to eachother or something. I really like the idea of keeping everything 5 related, especially because this species is number 555 in the Phillippines but also because of that soon AC channel will reach the milestone of 5 million subs. I think its a great idea. Ant love forever ❤

At first glance they look so cute because of that heart shaped Gaster❤... But looking a little closer you notice those vicious looking spikes on the thorax and realize there's something more sinister going on😈

note that, this species makes tiny but not large mounds. the mounds are like little funnel like bumps on the ground with the entrance in the center so making open concept style terrarium would be the the best choice. So something like a lush jungle with a type of soil and sand mix substrate.

In June, I caught a solenopsis invicta queen (imported fire ant) and everything has been going well so far. She had workers one week ago so I am super exited. Last Sunday I fed them a little piece of jello, so they should be well fed. Today I got 25 Dubia roaches so this week I'll feed them it. Antscanada you have inspired me to love ants more than ever. I have learned so much from your videos and we will keep inspiring others. I got an Antscanada Starter kit for solenopsis so when my colony has to move in, I will have their setup ready. Please tell me if there are any tips I should now. By the way watch my TH-cam videos they're pretty epic.

I DIDN'T KNEW MIKEY BUSTOS IS ANTSCANADA! I binged on this channel before and returned as I got myself a colony and followed his every advice to take care of my ants carefully. This is big to me as I'm a half filipino and mikey bustos has become a part of my childhood.

I study deep sea stuff but entomology is also a deep love of mine. Getting to see ants in such close detail is an absolute blast. I want to get a setup to raise some ants. I have a pet praying mantis at the moment named Roger.
I didn't know how to message you to express my appreciation for all that you taught me about ants. So I commented on your most recent. I am not even an ant enthusiast but I find the channel so fun.
Today during a drive in residential area a winged insect flew on my windshield. I was going slow, so it didn't impact the insect or anything. I didn't think much of it until I came to a rest stop and noticed the insect doing a peculiar thing, tearing its wings off. I went a little slower and watched the insect progress with a side eye and climb under my wipers.
I checked and yep, I had a queen land on her nuptial flight, on my windshield and decide that was somehow her safe place. I safely grabbed her and deposited her somewhere safer than my car in order for her to start building her own kingdom. Without your channel I would have never thought anything of it or bothered with her highness. I wouldn't even have known I was dealing with royalty.

Ok, the coloring on these lil gals is lovely and that rough looking shell sorta looks like wood.....And they are an odd mix of spiky n fuzzy two things i never thought should go together.

Yes!
You should call them the 555 Fighters, or Triple 5 Fighters. For the terrarium, I suggest a mini mountain range, with water on one side of the mountains, and the ants living on the other side, so its like a dam. You could have that half of the water be like Volcania's, with cleaning fish and other critters
This video was actually really nice. The colony is amazing. I'm sure you'll feed the ants something nice when they get a setup.

I like the idea of a floating island concept, connected by vines, though it's likely a logistical nightmare.
I'd like to start an ant colony of my own, however I have a very good reason not to lol. That reason is also how I found your channel oddly enough. I have cats that love your channel, because of the small insects running around on the screen. And they would also not let an ant colony live in my home without them destroying it. So I will leave it up to the 'experts' to raise ants. I couldn't even have a sea monkey tank without them knocking it down.

Since Species 555, in roman numbers will be DLV (D=500, L=50, V=5), I thought myself to keep the number on the name somehow, so i thought of using these numbers letters as the begining of their "possible" name.
I thought of:
D = Dark
L = Lustrous
V = Vibrissaes
Dark, since their are obviously dark, Lustrous, since they are shiny even if they are black/dark, and Vibrissae is a word used in Zoology, mostly on mammals, meaning: "long stiff hairs growing around the mouth or elsewhere on the face of many mammals, used as organs of touch; whiskers."
So the "Dark Lustrous Vibrissaes" or the "DLV" Colony, for the ACFamily, I think it would be great.❤❤

You should try a gold carpenter ant colony, they have beautiful gold thread bodies.

I think 555 should go into a terrarium that’s a bit like a scale model of your home, as that’s where they were found
A gum ball machine. The really large ones. But make it out of clear materials. You can see them go down the spiral to get food. The gum ball area you fill with dirt material so they can make a massive home. They would go down to get food and water.
I suggest „Heartbreaker“
They have a heartshaped gasket with ‚arrows‘ flying at them from their head to break them.
They also teased us for so long with the hope of being a new species, only to „break our hearts“. 😉😄
This 100% looks like the third found ant species in the giant vivarium! The little fuzz hanging out with the marauder ants!
