As a M. Tech I feel you brother cuz we spend our days fixing others other than ours and it’s cuz it’s not something crucial that needs fixing but don’t sweat it as long as it’s done ✅ one off the list. Great video. SN: I’m who I am today cuz of your classes thank you very much brother, may God bless you and the family always in Jesus name.
Of course the highlight of this video was the easily understandable situation, we've all been there, ha ha. After you get home from work, the last thing you want to do is something you were doing all day long. Behind the scenes, I'd like to throw out a compliment to your son, and his amazing camera work. That kind of close and sharp focus, the narrow depth of field, the pleasing bokeh, is only coming from high quality equipment, AND a guy who understands how those things work.
Great video! I think I'd still pull the power distribution box and check the underside for lingering corrosion that could leave you stranded at the worst possible time. Say hi to Jimmy for us as we miss video's at his shop. Thanks for sharing.
yep, someone will have a case of broken down, walking, towed and hair pulling to get a working box, and of course in the middle of winters worst. well, if he has my luck! 🥳🤯
Thank you so much for this informative video. My airbag light came on about a week ago and my youtube search brought me here. After watching the video, I checked my fuse and it came out in two pieces. I cleaned things up and replaced the fuse and now.... no more airbag light!! Again Thank you!!!
I am currently dealing with the same issue, Service airbag came on last week. Low and behold, my issue was the exact same.. corroded fuse. Mine didn't get stuck inside like yours luckily. Thanks for this video, saved me possibly hours or mindless diag time
I want to thank you most gracious Sir. My air bag light has been on for several years and I finally bought two sensors. I have a 2010 Silverado and my sensors do not bolt on like others I have seen. The bolts come down from the inside of the core support and the only I could see was to remove the radiator, so I went on a search to find out why when I came across your video. I checked the fuse and it was very corroded and only had power on one side. DAMN! I was so glad though because I really didn't want to take out the radiator. Again, Thanks, Ed
Respect brother !!! Takes a good man to admit what you found !!! Love your videos old school here 50 year old wrench turner who drives a tractor trailer now but still loves some scanner Danner videos!!
Good 11-minutes of learning. Even when we have a lot of experience on seen this kind of problem and blame everything else except the unusual, we need to check the basic and easy stuff first. Maybe this Module is easy to access but in another car is not going to be easy to check powers & grounds. Like you always says: “Fundamental is key”. God bless you!
Excellent information my friend, exhausted all my resources and about to head in to the stealership. This was spot on and problem solved!!!! Thanks for the video
Hello ScannerDanner, So I watched your video and on my Chevy 2007 Tahoe LTZ it was Fuse 51 Airbag ING Batt 15A fuse. It was corroded in the fuse housing, crumbled when I took it out. Had to clean the fuse housing and replaced the fuse, the Airbag light flashed and went out. Thanks so much!
Classic, i have about 50 fuse blocks for those exact problems. Always confirm my wiring and 100% of the time its that. Also those corrosion issues on modules there was a recall for that
I had this same issue with my 2002 F350 7.3L 6spd 4x4.. just a few months ago. I had been driving it for over 5 years without AC, because my serpentine belt had broken and slapped the side of my connections on the compressor and broke them off flush... I jerry rigged some lugs and shoved them in the broken holes on my compressor (back when it first broke) -- and it didn't' work, so I gave up.. So we just did a water pump and heat exchange swap on it and fixed all the leaks-- so I got motivated to give the AC another try (this is 5 years later now. :)... Did a few standard checks and it turns out it was just a blown fuse---- and my jerry rigged connections that I shoved into the broken hole do actually work. So I've had AC all summer now. lol. Didn't even have to recharge it or anything. 5 summers with no AC over a fuse. fml.. Granted, I drove my MDX most of the time anyway.
Thanks for sharing this. We all have these moments where we assume something is complex and turns out to be very simple. Especially when you deal with jobs almost every day that are too complex for others to fix. I bought a new front passenger door lock actuator 3 years ago to replace it. Still haven't fixed it horrible job.
Im happy that it was an easy fix for you but I really would have liked to have seen some in depth trouble shooting and diagnostics 😅 I have seen quite a few of those modules turn to dust under the seat, along with the pins in the connector. I didn't know about the TSB's on that module, good to know and thank you for your videos! I hope you're all doing well in the Danner family. God bless you and your family 🙏🏼
Local dealer to me always has a power distribution box in stock for that very reason, usually my first go to on that generation truck for any abnormal electrical issues. Side note, don’t those fuse boxes carry spare fuses within them? 🤣 the fuse you need was staring you down likely Love watching your videos, been watching for years. Makes me love and enjoy doing electrical work. Nobody else in the shop I work for wants to touch it. Keep doing what you do 🤙🏻 and I’ll keep watching. Ontario, Canada.
Hi Paul and Caleb, great video. There's a saying that a techs' vehicle is the worst and the last to be repaired! When you do it for a living the last thing you want to do when get home is work on your vehicle. unless your wife or Kids drive the vehicle you have no choice. When my daughter learned to drive we had one vehicle that used to get 32k a year on it, so ya gutta do what ya gutta do. Good job Brother!!!
I see a few of this era of GM truck a month with corroded SDMs, so I'm right there with ya in not believing it was just a fuse! Be happy, you got off easy! :D
Paul: I spray Deoxit on every Electrical Connector as a preventative maintenance measure. I only spray it on any Connector I disconnect for Repair or Engine Replacement. It's a good practice to use Deoxit religiously.
Glad you fixed it! Going by the amount of dust on top of your fusebox and on top of the relays, it looks like you have been driving about with the fusebox lid off for some time? This would allow moisture in and would be why you have corrosion on your fuse?
We all get caught skipping basic checks Paul and then start kicking at things once we find the problem because of our laziness.. It happens to us all. Just got to remember the simple motto. K.I.S.S. Great video bud.
You're embarrassed by 4 years of neglecting your airbag light? Mine's been on since 2011! I don't have the ability to scan for airbag codes, so I once had someone who could scan it for me. I was told that it's a defective clock spring. I have a replacement clock spring, but am delaying installing it because I had a minor encounter with a tree during a severe rainstorm and my steering wheel has been off-center since. Plus, I have a replacement steering wheel to use. I was planning to wait until all of my suspension/alignment issues are resolved before swapping the steering wheels and replacing the clock spring. But, after seeing this video, I need to do some fuse checks first.
Hey Danner, this is the stuff we want to see here. Electrical diagnosis. That's nica. And also diagnoses at your class at Rosedale. This is where you're good at. Let others do the mechanical stuff.
Bravo Paul merci pour cette video. En effet les basics (fusibles, relais) font partie des contrôles à réaliser systématiquement on a souvent tendance à les négliger...... great job as usual ;)
Thankfully i found your video. I was all in and was going to pull the seat out and get to that module. But I checked the fuse and sure enough the same exact thing happens to my fuse on my 08 3500. What's the chances. I to have a heated mirror that dosent work now. Thanks
What is the aftermarket amplifier turn on wire used for?? My 2010 gmc sierra has red cablea attached to those metal blades. 1 seems to go inside a harness but the other one gosles inside the cabin sonI have no idea where it goes. Also there is a red wire thas says aftermarket trailer but is cut so no idea where it is supposed to connect to. Having problems with my break/stop lights and turn signals not working.
I had the same issue with my 2010 Silverado. Airbag light on, no comm with module. I googled for SIR module location to check power and ground, came across your video. Checked number 45 fuse, same thing, corrosion, power only on one side. cleaned terminal, replaced fuse, Airbag light is now off.
I have prob changed 30 or so of those UBEC's for various issues. I keep 4 of them with different issues under my bench for diag purposes all marked with what doesnt work. One is lf marker light stays on, another is no reverse lights and dont remember the other 2. Quicker to swap one out and see if issue is fixed than going through the diag. First time ive seen the airbag light on from one though. Last time i checked they were only around 300 bucks Canadian i think for a complete loaded one so not an expensive repair.
LMAO. Great video Paul and Caleb as always not laughing at you Paul, just lets everyone know when we get busy with life we tend to put are own jobs on the back burner. Don't be mad at your self Paul it happens to all of use and yes we need to start at the basics. I can't tell you how many times I have been burned getting in a hurry and skip the basic steps. Hope all is going well, God Bless.
Paul, I noticed that the seat belt chime and light on the cluster was not on when you started the video. Is that light and the SIR message related to each other (I have the same condition)?
I used to get the seat belt chime, and the icon on the cluster, as soon as the key is in the ON position. When my Service Airbag message (and icon) appeared (and stays on as you pointed out), the seat belt chime and the icon disappeared altogether. After you fixed the BATT fuse, you can see the seat belt icon in the display again. I don't know how they're related, but this was a symptom I noticed in the video, as well as on my truck too. I thought it might be helpful to someone else who should start with the fuses, as you did.
4 years with an airbag light on 😂. Any dash lights on my car, it gets fixed pretty much immediately. Drives me crazy, especially the ones that show a message in the cluster of a fault.
@ScannerDanner I see what appears to be corrosion under one of the relays. If this box is corroded like the ones I've seen it would be wise to replace it before something like a fuel pump relay leaves you stranded.
4 winters later…. Still waiting for the replacement fuse hahaha!!!! I might have missed it but do you have a cover for the box? Nonetheless made for a good video lol
Hello, so you have an aftermarket amplifier, have a question regarding the original amplifier. I install a Chinese android car radio and keep the original radio in. As I understand it, the amplifier turns on via the bus when I turn on the original stock radio. How do I switch on the amplifier when I switch on china radio? without turning on the original radio. its a chevy tahoe 2004. Thanks in advance.
Without looking at a diagram I can't tell you. You just need an ignition feed to switch the amplifier on for an aftermarket one. I doubt an 04 factory amp is using anything different. The bus you refer to may just simply be that, a turn on signal. Measure it with a voltmeter and see what voltage is there before you do the swap
LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!! Great video! I also have the same thing happening, except mines not the fuse, it 'appears' it's the right front sensor. I'll get to it 'someday'................🤣
or "left me stranded, walking and towed, diagnosing found a fuse box full of corrosion". the trucks and especially vans with fuse box up front down low are well known to nuke out and stop.
Hey Paul, yes its paramount to first know the circuit and how it works..at least have an idea. Then search for the fault in the workings.. you were lucky to get it sorted so soon.. Q. What scanner are you using... or can you tell which type of scanner does not have a yearly subs..to renew. Will have to sell my Autel919 soon... great video
They all have yearly subscription updates. I'm not sure if you get locked out on the China tools. I know Snap-On you don't but you'll pay 3 times more for it
Obviously, your fuse box needs at least a good lube like you said. And while you in there, clean up the post. Good example of the problems mechanics/technicians create for ourselves all the time 😀
*FOR ANYONE WHOS EXPERIENCE ELECTRICAL CHAOS IN THE GMT800 TRUCKS AND LATER GMT700s A SDM SIMPLE FAST CHECK IS TO PLUG A SCAN TOOL TO THE OBD2 PORT. Could you post a pic of the airbag wiring diagram here in comments? Or send it to me. Working on a same year and type of car, have same problem, no comm, but already checked the fuses. Need to start measuring the cables but not easy without a diagram. The programs here in Europe doesn’t have a lot of diagrams for American cars.
Oh paul! I can't believe that, 4 years driving car without SRS, most people interest check engine light more than SRS light... Check engine for engine, but you have to know that SRS safety for you.....
Informative and HILARIOUS!!! I'm so ashamed of you.......a fuse? for years?? Your students should be allowed to stone you with tomatoes 😆 🤣 😂. GREAT 👍 POST!
Lol it’s not a huge deal when it’s your car though. Like we say in the Military KISS keep it simple stupid and it was the fuse its funny but of course I’m not calling you stupid because you are not but it’s just funny that you mentioned in the beginning what you could check and it was an issue. Love the videos in binge watching
Paul you want CRC QD electronic cleaner and Deoxit D5 use these 2 together and see what you see. Welcome to the real world, very rarely this. And its you vehicle and you know nothing is really wrong and not effecting it driving
My Grandma used to say, Doctors drink and smoke, chefs make terrible food at home and mechanics drive neglected cars!!!! LOL!!!
Quite true 😂
I don't usually open my own hood unless there is flames coming out from under it.
But I'll probably just walk away from it at that point 😂
As a M. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me! Thank you brother
Wow! That must be why I love my old trucks, made well before the electronics craze. 1961 Ford F-100, 1976 Ford Bronco, and a M35a2 army truck.

I just sent him this comment. Thank you so my friend. You've certainly been here long enough to see his progression. Really appreciate you man
I'm gaining Auto Electrical Repair Experiences through your TH-cam channel, God Bless you
Great video, Paul. This drives home the lesson of always starting with the basics. Keep up the good work.
Been there, Skipped the fuse box a few times myself. Always makes you feel like a noob. Appreciate the honesty.
You should get Eric O to do you a Chevy thunder voice over every time you start your truck. One of my favourite videos you've done this year so far.
This is why you never rush or over look the simple stuff . Just slow down and look around.
Great video guys .

The curse of the knowledgeable!
Great vid, Paul and a very useful lesson for everyone - saved yourself a bunch of hassle as well! 🙌🏼
I always love that you choose basic first before get lost.
I call that a win, sometimes things are simple. Best thing I every brought were LED fuses. Great videos and thank you for sharing your knowledge.
After 35 plus years I feel your pain and understand we as master techs get rushed and some times miss the easy things 🇦🇺

As mechanics we can live with a lot on our own stuff. Good fix. Good vid. Thanks
It's the same way as a carpenter.. The house gets neglected. :)
Amazing,I've changed a few of these power distribution boxes & yes they corrode very bad
Thanks for sharing SD, STAY BLESSED GUY'S😍
Hello ScannerDanner, So I watched your video and on my Chevy 2007 Tahoe LTZ it was Fuse 51 Airbag ING Batt 15A fuse. It was corroded in the fuse housing, crumbled when I took it out. Had to clean the fuse housing and replaced the fuse, the Airbag light flashed and went out. Thanks so much!

Like my old diesel instructor ,used to say, always check the least expensive things first, so true
Local dealer to me always has a power distribution box in stock for that very reason, usually my first go to on that generation truck for any abnormal electrical issues.
Side note, don’t those fuse boxes carry spare fuses within them? 🤣 the fuse you need was staring you down likely

Great video but this is a win on another level too…you don’t have to revisit your relationship with airbag modules🤣 I loved that premium vid series
Thanks man, really appreciate you guys
Well holy crap. Yep, this fixed my issue. Thanks for posting this
Glad it helped!
DrConnectionFix AGAIN!!! WOW that’s two in a row. Are you reaching for a sponsorship Danner?
Total coincidence lol. The RV video was filmed 2 years ago where I used deoxit
Bravo Paul merci pour cette video. En effet les basics (fusibles, relais) font partie des contrôles à réaliser systématiquement on a souvent tendance à les négliger...... great job as usual ;)
Caleb/Paul,
Great video, diag and fix - thank you!
Regards to Danner!
Paul (in MA)
Thankfully i found your video. I was all in and was going to pull the seat out and get to that module. But I checked the fuse and sure enough the same exact thing happens to my fuse on my 08 3500. What's the chances. I to have a heated mirror that dosent work now. Thanks
😅 awesome!
Mechanics have always put off working on their own. But it was a good video for those that might overlook the obvious.
Nice video and great find. Obviously, this video is a perfect example for do as I say and not do as I do. You always talk about the basics. 😂😂
What is the aftermarket amplifier turn on wire used for?? My 2010 gmc sierra has red cablea attached to those metal blades. 1 seems to go inside a harness but the other one gosles inside the cabin sonI have no idea where it goes. had to same problem !! cleaned the fuse and fixed it
Great video as always 👍 Surprise you didn't add that famous airbag clip blow up clip as intro lol
Haha we did in the longer version of this video that we put on my website 😉
Paul, I noticed that the seat belt chime and light on the cluster was not on when you started the video. Is that light and the SIR message related to each other (I have the same condition)?
The airbag light was on all the time. The seat belt chime? I don't think it does that until you start driving with your seat belt off
I used to get the seat belt chime, and the icon on the cluster, as soon as the key is in the ON position. When my Service Airbag message (and icon) appeared (and stays on as you pointed out), the seat belt chime and the icon disappeared altogether. Literally everytime I wrench
Love this guy
My truck Same dam Issue Boom fixed it
Fuse 40 and 45. All fixed thanks only slightly corroded.
Alway appreciate your videos sir ..thanks
mud on your face...... its never a fuse. I got my weekly dose of laughter, thank you Danny boy
@ScannerDanner I see what appears to be corrosion under one of the relays. If this box is corroded like the ones I've seen it would be wise to replace it before something like a fuel pump relay leaves you stranded.
Meh 😉
Your son could have figured that out. He’s a big boy now!
4 winters later…. Still waiting for the replacement fuse hahaha!!!!
I might have missed it but do you have a cover for the box?
Nonetheless made for a good video lol
Yes, cover has ALWAYS been on!

YOUR ON THE RIGHT PAGE BECAUSE YOU HAVE A BAD MODULE ITS EITHER THE BCM, THE FPM (BY SPARE TIRE FUEL PUMP MODULE PRONE TO CORROSION. ABS PUMP AND MODULE COMBO ON DRIVE SIDE FRAME UNDER CAB. WILL GET CORROSION. (BE CAREFUL IF THIS MODULE SHORTS IVE HAD 1 THAT CAME IN CAUSE RANDOM WHEELS AT RANDOM TIMES HAD BRAKES APPLIED BY THE ABS PUMP) AND THE LESS COMMON BUT HAVE SEEN IS A BCM. ILL TAKE A EDUCATED GUESS WHY A BCM CAN FAIL, ITS VERY POSSIBLE WHEN THE POWER DIST BLOCK CORROSION BEGINS. THE BCM TAKE THE BEATING. WHEN THE BLOCK IS REPLACED EVENTUALLY THE BCM WILL FAIL) GROUNDING ISSUES DONT HELP THE LIST OF WTF GM... THINGS THAT HAS THE SAME EXACT CONDITIONS* HOPE THIS HELPS ALL OF US TECH TACKLE THESE ISSUES THAT ARE STARTING TO SHOW ALOT BECAUSE THESE TRUCKS ARE GETTING OLD
Great video team Danner
In Mexico we have a saying:
En casa de herrero, cuchillo de palo.
Which translates to:
At the blacksmith's house, wooden knife.
I won't share copyright info but you can purchase everything you need for $20. Same diagrams I use
eautorepair.adtrk.biz/?a=10817&c=24&p=r&s1=
You're a trip Danner!! Love your videos. I learn so much!!
Oh paul!
I can't believe that, 4 years driving car without SRS, most people interest check engine light more than SRS light...
Check engine for engine, but you have to know that SRS safety for you.....
It is elementary my dear Watson Do you suppose there is more corrosion in that fuse box?
Good hunting. The old school guy.
Lol scanner it happens man lol nice video man
Had the exact same problem on my 2011
When it comes to our car we become lazy. Nice vedio, thanks
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Hi Paul We have an adage in my country:
The blacksmith's horse walks barefoot 😉
That will be noted
I was an elevator mechanic and I've been told my own elevator doesn't go to the top floor. Been like that for way longer than 4 years too.😁🤣🙂🙃
I also see the relay has crust and the 30 Amp fuse too has crust on it . First thing IS to ck fuses
Use super hot water and mix baking soda it will eat crust
Paul, please turn in your diagnostic tech card !!…LOL
!!
🤣
Quick fix easy fix my name, Dan I like that
You've been with me long enough to know my name isn't Dan
In our country we say: "Kovačeva kobila je vedno bosa"
Which translates to: "The blacksmiths mare is always barefoot" ;)
Dad’s a good sport. Take responsibility and move on!
As David Freiburger said "when you know the rules, you are allowed to break them"
That reminds me I should really service my car 😂
Informative and HILARIOUS!!! I'm so ashamed of you.......a fuse? for years?? Your students should be allowed to stone you with tomatoes 😆 🤣 😂. GREAT 👍 POST!
🤣🤣 agree! Smh
There is absolutely an excuse for the airbag light being on for years, a technician’s daily driver is always the last car they get around to fixing.
Paul you want CRC QD electronic cleaner and Deoxit D5 use these 2 together and see what you see. Welcome to the real world, very rarely this. And its you vehicle and you know nothing is really wrong and not effecting it driving
Lesson, never overlook the first step in diagnostic process, in this case saved the time of pulling the seat out of the truck
