After nearly 40 years, the interior of this '78 Chevy Camaro was totally rotten and worn out. We rip it out and start over with DEI's Boom Mat and Under Carpet Light and then all new carpet. Check it out as we show you how.

Those are the nicest original floors iv ever seen
very well presented, no excess chatter, straight to the point information and showing enough how to without leaving tons of mystery. well done sir
I was just asking myself if I wanna go through the nightmare with my 89 Camaro lol I tried with a 79 cutlass and had bubbles all in the carpet but I think I might go at it again thanks to this video
Same lol
Man! That's some good restoration and I like how you didn't skimp out on the insulation! Looks beautiful, great work!! Just subscribed.
Thanks!
Right on for the camaro build !!
Any issues with the boom mat on the roof? I used similar stuff on the floorboards but the instructions said not to apply it to the roof. I figured there was the possibility of it losing adhesion after a few years of hot/cold cycles and falling off into the headliner.
This is my Favorite build
Great step by step. Thank you I will refer to this video when I do my floor
Did the rear seat get re-covered?
Great video 👍🏻👍🏻 will help guys at the interior carpet stage of their projects 😉
Being a Camaro lover: I have never seen a COLUMN shift!
Yeah, that kind of bugs me too, but the price was right when I bought the car ($2,250). Thanks for watching!
What size carpet lite did you order? The 48 x 70?
Hey y’all I’m getting one used and need to redo the interior, thankfully she runs, but if y’all have any tips I’d love some, especially with repainting, rims, stuff I should be careful of with the original engine (that’s still running) transportation etc
I think it’s awesome your doing a Camaro!!! But anyone that’s ever carpeted a car knows it’s a hell of alot more difficult than you make it seem
good Job man
I'm michanic in my country bur I like your job too
+Irun Hyatt Thanks!
I was expecting “flexseal” at 2:30 but instead we got “BOOM MAT”
Bro he literally was actually hitting the ceiling when he said “before” then tapped it with one finger when he said after
This video had to have been made in 1990. There's no gen 2 camaro this era with original floor pans that solid.
frosty mustang92 unless theyve been stored my floors were complete shit i had to replace the whole thing in pieces wasnt a pleasant process
Mine are pretty decent and are original
Any tips on removing the rear seats on 1980 Camaro Z28? Thanks
Push pull grunt lol im sure you figured it out
Amazing car hermano
Thanks!
Have many square feet of under carpet light did you use for the whole interior of the Camaro?
Sorry, it's been so long ago, I have no idea any more.
That’s nice, where did you get a new dash pad when I look them up I mostly get dash pad covers
Thanks! I'm pretty sure I got the dash pad from National Parts Depot (npdlink.com)
I inherited a 68 convertible camaro. Do you think its necessary to use the noise deafening stuff being a convertible? There is quite a bit of heat that comes off the engine so I would imagine the heat guard would help.
Hey that's cool, I also inherited a 68 convertible camaro I'm restoring! I'm thinking the sound deadening will definitely be an upgrade for interior comfort. You will still have more noise than a coupe just by the nature of a soft top but it will help with engine and road noise and misc NVH quite a bit.
was that POR-15 you painted on the floor?
Yup
How much Boom Mat did you buy? I have 1981 Camaro Z28 and will be redoing the interior as well.
How much did you use?
Please tell me where the handbrake is located on this car
In the footwell.
Are there any videos of this Camaro with the 427 you built?
it's looking good
+Jim Rowlings Thanks!
I know this been uploaded 3 years ago but where did you buy the body by fisher that you put on towards the end of the video
I got them at National Parts Depot. There is a store near me, but you can also find them online. NPDLink.com. Thanks for watching
thanks for the help, I have a 76 camaro
Been wondering about that DEI underlay for my current project, hope you can post a video after you've tested out the car with it installed.
+Swilling I really like it. The window regulators in the Camaro are really worn so I can't get a good window seal and makes a whistling noise. I tried to get a before and after on video, but it didn't work well. But besides the wind noise, there is a real difference riding in the car. Very happy with the results, and thanks for watching!
Lol, no kiddin, 2nd gens arent exactly the best at sealing when the windows are up. Thanks!
+Swilling thats why i just turn the stereo up!! lol
+Swilling I juices pink km NHL game okjjkkk
Hello, very good video. Does the Boom mat also work for the door insulation to my 79 Camaro?
There seems to be a lot of sound/weather detener competition, do you think Boom Mat is the smartest choice if yes why?
Yes, it should work in the door. I think all the big name brands are all pretty equivalent. The cheap no-name stuff you can find on ebay I've tried and is a pain to apply and doesn't seem to work as well.

Thank you very much for your professional opinion!
So a quick last vote on this subject; would you go with Boom Mat, Kilmat or Hush mat?
And how many square feet approximately/minimum is your guess to cover the main floor area, headliner and doors of my 79 Camaro?
What is that he's painting on the floor
POR 15 (Paint Over Rust). It encapsulates rust so it won't continue to grow and rot out the sheetmetal.
you might want to get that rust out of the floor pans by the door jams
Where did you get the seats from
They are Pro Car by Scat seats. I bought them from Summit Racing.
how do you remove the interior metal pillars??
Are you talking about the A pillars? If so, there is a sheetmetal screw near the top and the bottom is located by a tab that slots into the back of the dash. LIfts right out. Hope that helps!
ottimo lavoro complimenti.
Do I need to remove dash?
No. That's unnecessary.
Ok, I will try again. I can’t see any screws or slots. Thanks
Goooood stuff
old seats looked better imo
Done in black tho
yea
I’m sorry to say this but Iv seen a lot better job at putting down that boom mat it looked like a patch job iv seen it done with a silver type matting and it looked awesome pieced together like a puzzle with Nooo gaping
Hear a pin drop
