- Watch staff from the New Zealand Department of Conservation (DOC) arrive to weigh and provide the Top Flat chick with a supplementary feeding on August 7. Rangers monitor the weights of all the chicks across the colony at Pukekura/Taiaroa Head throughout the breeding season. If chicks are underweight for their age, or if a parent is late in returning from sea, DOC staff will offer supplementary feedings that include fluids and fish.
After this feeding, both parents have visited the Top Flat chick several times in the following days, keeping him topped up with plenty of food.
RoyalCam was set up in January 2016 by the Department of Conservation and the Cornell Lab has been collaborating with DOC since 2019 to bring the cam to life. To learn more while watching, view the cam at

Royal Cam is a 24-hour live stream of a Northern Royal Albatross nest during the breeding season at Pukekura/Taiaroa Head on the southeast tip of New Zealand's South Island.
This season (2023-24) features two nests in view. At the main site to the left of the frame, male LGK (named for his colored leg band combination: Lime/Green/Black) and female LGL (Lime/Green/Lime) return to the Top Flat nest site, where they are caring for a single egg laid on November 7.
Nearby to the right, male WYL (White/Yellow/Lime) and female BOK (Blue/Orange/Black) have been tending to their egg since it was laid on November 14 at the Top Track Flat site. This site is currently obscured by tall grass, which will die down and open up the view as the season progresses.

The big Albie boy needed a meal parents have been missing several days far away in the ocean 😮. Admirable the Rangers provide help for the Juvenile to conserve his vital weight 🎉💪. Thank you ❤
Seeing that there is hope for wildlife puts a smile on my face. Thank you for your services.
I did not know that the chick could take whole sections of fish at this age. that is kind that a supplemental feeding was given. it is hard to imagine that size of chick being underweight. it almost looked like the researcher was inserting fish into a postal mail slot. I guess they would go to the chick's crop but I did not know it could hold that much at one time
Thank you for taking such excellent care of the Albatross chick!
Amazing footage of a strong, healthy chick and the conservationists working hard to ensure his well-being ❤
This is such a happy reality.
So big!
Beautiful birds! I had no idea albatross are so huge.
Thanks for giving them extra care, from the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia! ❤️
It seems humorous to call such an enormous bird a “chick” 😂….when I hear the word “chick” my thoughts track to tiny little fluff balls . This baby appears strong and healthy; I’m sure the supplemental feeding is appreciated. Hope the parents are okay.
Albatross! Albatross! Monty Python fans will understand, ha! An incredible bird, thanks for what you do.
I had no idea the royal albatross was so large, and quite the snappy beak!! Beautiful! ✌💚
What a beautiful bird. ♥️ Thank you for this video. 🙏
Albatrosy są takie piękne obserwuje ich od lat to jest super opieka nad nimi ❤️❤️❤️☀️
Great job Rangers! TF is not a fan of being handled, and you did a great job helping him❣️
So big for a chick ! 🥰
It's great. When you take care of the bird's health. ❤👌🐟
Albatross: ayooo if this is how you dominate me,then by all means dominate me
Wow that was a bunch of food!!
Wow how many fish 🐠 are you giving 😮
1 kg 😊
Yes
-Кем вы работаете?
-Взвешиваю альбатросов😊
That’s a big chic!
SO BIG
ДЕВЧОНКИ ! УМНИЦЫ
Not that much different from mom and dad! 😛
That is a huge “baby”!
생각보다 더 커서 행복하다
귀엽고 꼬옥 안아보고싶게생김
얘네가 살아가는 지구를 생각하면 귀찬은일도 감수할수 있을것같아
That's a chick? He's so big.
How do they do it? I certainly couldn't eat that much.
Hope it has room, when the parents come back.
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I know what they’re doing is wonderful for the conservation of these magnificent creatures, but I think the poor bird was terrified when she straddled him and proceeded to force open his beak.
I think he wasn't happy but trusts them enough to let them help him. He's big enough that if he didn't want to go in the basket he would have resisted. He's big
@@RocLobo358 That’s true I guess. 🙂
Izzy man should voice over
He knew what they were going to do to him, poor guy lolz. He is also semi tame and used to weigh ins & handling.
Cornell Lab, how do you determine what a safe amount of fluids and fish is for the chick? I feel like watching that, it just seemed to be so much going into the chick all at once.
They take his current weight and base the food on what his weight should be.
💝🙏🏼🫡
If that's a chick, then what's an adult like? 😱😱
Bit bigger
Brooooooo.. wtf . that;s like 5 pounds of fish in 1 go. Even I can't eat that much.
@i3looi2 considering the parents are out at sea sometimes up to 2 weeks, the supplemental feeding helps ✌️
Youre not a baby albatross, so, that might be the reason you eat differently...
Bet you also cant swallow an ostrich egg whole like a snake could either.
Are not their parents feeding them sufficiently
Rangers will provide these supplemental feedings when parents are, for example, delayed in returning at ordinary intervals. The rangers’ intervention recognizes that such parental-care “failures”, or insufficiencies, are not necessarily to be ascribed to a natural lack of fitness by the parents. Instead, they may well reflect unnatural pressures imposed by human effects on the environment - for example, a suppression of the natural food sources that the parents forage from.
'oh no here we go again getting railroaded by the two ladies'..but nice job.
Oh my God!! the poor bird they are going to kill him😮
These birds are not endangered it seems to me..Why not let nature take its course?
@@mhv8855 They are endangered and apparently their population has gone down since the 2000s.
If they really didn’t need help, the rangers wouldn’t be interfering, trying to feed the chick.
Royal albatross is a critical endangered bird species. It has a very small breeding area. In 1985 due to several storms in their closed habitat their status become almost extinct.
Прекрасная работа,мне даже немного завидно😢
