ABT Studio Company Le Corsaire: Future Stars in Action

- The ABT Studio Company presented its Winter Festival in February 2021 on its TH-cam with great dancing from the young dancers. One segment was the Le Corsaire suite with the popular pas de deux and solos. The Ali/Medora roles were filled by four dancers: Elisabeth Beyer, Elwince Magbitang, Jake Roxander, Kotomi Yamoda. The solos were exciting, filled with great dynamic depth and technical prowess, demonstrating the dancers’ solid training and maturity. It won’t be long before dancers in the festival will be a foundation of ABT and seen on the big stage at the Metropolitan Opera House. The Studio Company is affiliated with ABT and serves as a feeder into the main troupe with nearly 80% of the 2020 dancers advancing through the studio company including Herman Cornejo, Christine Shevchenko, Calvin Royal III, Isabella Boylston. Loved this double Corsaire. All four are wonderful; Elisabeth Beyer is quite extraordinary. Jake Roxander has beautiful arms.

I saw videos of the Winter Festival with great interest. They are all promising dancers but to me Elisabeth Beyer is in a stratosphere by herself. Besides, her technical ability I love her lines and charisma. You astutely compared her steps to that of top international ballerinas. I hope that she goes straight into a soloist. At the Mariinsky or Bolshoi, I believe that she would have been dancing major roles and developed into a leading soloist. I like Jake but wish he would work on his feet in the double Corsaire (demi-caractere?) saut de basque. Loved this (and all your) videos. They are in a class by themselves.
But it is Le and not La Corsaire ...
