One clue given was "Ballerinas can play it with their foot!" and then her video was shown! We all demand to watch it three times. Why defame a beautiful dancer such as Misty Copeland? Look. I'm pretty sure this beautiful young dancer has had every advantage, unlike Ms. Copeland. Misty started from a position of being raised in a single, head of household and began ballet at age 13 at a YMCA or boy's and girl's club type outfit. I'm pretty sure Misty's mother didn't have the resources to send Misty to ballet classes any earlier, much less Ellison Ballet at any time in her early years...and so...unbelievably rude to compare white privilege to a situation like what Ms. Copeland had to come up from. No?! Just saying.
I will say only this. Each ballerinas dancing speaks for itself. To elevate any dancer to star status based upon race cheapens the art form. Misty was also trained improperly which caused her serious injury, massive surgeries, and the uncharactetistic musculature that is totally absent in other ballet dancer's, including Black ones. She was elevated to support a pervasive narrative that if left unchecked will destroy many lives. I like Misty ... yes, but a great dancer she is not.
She's so skinny. . . I hope shes taking care of herself. At such a serious level of ballet the only thing that can keep you up is treating yourself well:)
Looks like she might have an eating disorder. I do ballet and I had one. You have this urge to be perfect and have the best ballet body. The teachers don’t help either. They like to comment on that stuff. I hope she finds that she is worthy of taking up space.
