    That's a very interesting video! But honestly speaking, as a foreign girl in her 30s living in Japan, I found that college students here are more open to dating foreign girls. But once they become 社会人 they prefer to get settled with Japanese girls. I've also encountered another barrier - Japanese men tend to assume I'm not interested in them without even speaking to me which has been very disappointing.

      If you look very pretty and have a good weight and face. it actually doesn't matter that you are in 30's. I wouldn't critism the other people. first try to change something at yourself. cause people will think you are true without seeing your appearence. I can say, by living in Japan myself. what you talk is actually absolutely not true.

    As a Japanese-Filipina who dated other half Japanese and pure Japanese men, I can say that using culture as a negative is just an excuse of men not being open minded. Plus I feel like men who want to date foreign girls like me just do it for clout. However, there are some men I've dated who were very sweet and open minded, which I find very attractive

    I am married to japanese guy I met on facebook. Haha. So I added him (may) and we become friends (no flirting) he is good in english and we both have common interest.
    After 3 months in obon holiday (august) he came to my country and we spent time (with my friends too) for 3 days but somehow after he went back to japan there were sparks between us.
    I wanted him to say “I love you” but he didnt say because he couldnt say that kind of stuff if not face to face. Both of us wanna say but couldnt. So in October he asked me to come to Tokyo he would buy me ticket (because he is working and cannot leave office) but I have to handle some job in October so he bought me ticket for early december.
    In december, I went to Tokyo and when I arrived in Haneda, he suddenly kneel and show me a ring. He proposed to me in airport and I agreed. Then he introduced me to his family.
    In january he came to my country to meet my parent and then I flew back to japan with him to register our marriage :D
    So we basically skipped the “dating” period. It was so fast. But we have been married and happy for four years now :D we live in Shinjuku and in daily, we use English. I only use japanese if I have to go to beauty parlor, shopping, or meet his family.
    I am his first foreigner girlfriend
    And he is my first EVER boyfriend 😂
    Sure in our home I can act freely like how I live in my own country but when we are outside I have to follow the rules and norms of Japanese people. Basically in our international marriage there is no problem. He loves my country’s food.
    Ah and he converted to Muslim to follow my religion, so he stopped eat pork now. And his people from company, friends, and family respect it.

    It shouldn’t be anything about culture but to do with the person as a whole. Deeply understanding who they are is what matters. So anyone should be able to adapt to different cultures as far as love goes.
    (Edit: Culture can also come into play in relationships but if one is willing to learn, understand, and adapt to it, then the issue can be alleviated. Well, this is in my own personal perspective, thanks!)

    • @lunerouge_han
      @lunerouge_han 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Sometimes culture, like family education, is so deeply entrenched that it is part of your personality, and it's hard for your partner to adapt or for you to adapt to your partner. As open-minded as one can be, when your mentality & subconscious system (way of reasoning, way of communicating, existential values... ) are so different, conflicts can arise or you just grow apart.

    • @bitsamui5104
      @bitsamui5104 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@lunerouge_han I don't understand why people can get this. It's not about stereotypes, it's not about "not paying attention to the individual", culture isn't some mystical thing that doesn't actually exist. Culture is out-right engrained into the base of every person. It effects our values and literal thinking. There are some who are anti-culture but they are the exceptions.
      Elizabeth needs to spend time with actual foreigners...

    • @ielizabethm2
      @ielizabethm2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@bitsamui5104 The first reply has a point and of course culture has a lot to play when it comes to foreigners, no doubt about that. Although in my own personal viewpoint, irrespective to cultural values and beliefs, the person would eventually adapt if they truly cared about that significant other. The personality and mindset of that individual is also at the heart of loving someone. When a person is open to learn, then it becomes possible for cultures to coincide through understanding one another’s differences. Again, this is in my own perspective.

Food is big difference and not just ramen or sushi, traditional dishes and when and how to eat them, drinking culture is also very different, it is also important to respect everyone older than you whether you like it or not, always getting permission to eat. Also diet culture is very harsh in japan many japanese care about their looks and fashion is very different, more conservative than western fashion. Other than that there are many more i think it is just hard to form a deeper connection when your experiences are very different and there is less to relate to and agree on

      Lord Jesus Christ is coming back everyone, please don’t worship celebrities and entertainment, focus on Him alone. I promise there’s more to life than money, partying, homosexuality and music. Hell is real, repent from sinning confess your sins and ask God to forgive you, I know He will if you’re sincere. Anyone who thinks the Name of Lord Jesus Christ is a joke, boldly mocks and scorns Him or takes pleasure in people who do is in for a big unpleasant surprise on judgement day IF they don’t repent and follow Lord Jesus Christ. Hell is very hot, people please repent! In the mighty name of Lord Jesus Christ, Amen 🙏💪✝️💜❤️✝️!
      Idolatry such as, Islam, Catholicism, Sangomaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Santa Clausism, Confucianism, New Age, Science, Evolution, halloweenism, Harry Potterism, Politics, Donald Trumpism, Easter Bunnyism and other religions/faiths that are outside Biblical Christianity lead to hell! Don’t believe them, believe the Almighty God the Father of Lord Jesus Christ, who begot Him. Our Creator, The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is mighty, He doesn’t need a woman to beget a son, He is God. I choose to put my faith in a God who can do anything and everything, a God who has unlimited and infinite power to beget!
      So, it’s time to confess that Lord Jesus Christ is the Lord and to believe that He died and rose from the grave after three days and you shall be saved if you only obey Him by praying, worshipping, praising, reading the Bible and living holy and righteously according to the Bible. You have to endure until the end, carry your cross daily and build your relationship with God by following Lord Jesus daily until the end. You must never renounce your faith in The Lord Jesus Christ, there’s hell awaiting those who reject/deny Lord Jesus Christ and those who continue living sinfully, even the Christians who don’t want to repent will face the same fate, so please repent beloved people, in Lord Jesus Christ’s mighty and precious Name, Amen. ✝️

    Frustrating experience. My daughter met a Japanese student here in 🇨🇦 right as pandemic lock downs started. He was supposed to come that summer back for school. He said wait for him…then he changed schools to Australia and never spent a day there either due to pandemic. He then comes back to 🇨🇦 1.5 years later for 2 month work experience and reaches out to her. They spent lots of time together and you can tell he enjoyed every minute by the constant smiles he had. I saw it with my own eyes. His family must have said something because he seemed sad and apathetic when he left . He could not express his feelings and shut down. She doesn’t know if he doesn’t like her or if he just has to conform and is too prideful to ask. Not sure if it was typical boy girl issues or fear of risk.

    I'm American and have dated several Japanese guys in the past and eventually settled down with one and started a family. Some of my dating took place in Japan and some in the US. Two others even wanted to marry me but the timing wasn't right for me. Some we only spoke Japanese even though my Japanese was barely intermediate, but we got along great as we were both easy going. Then in my longest relationship he spoke English well, but we still struggled because he wasn't easy going and we argued a lot. So it really depends on both people and how easy going they are and that they are not easy to anger. I have taken a deep dive into Japanese cooking, so I believe that helps knowing most Japanese foods and how to cook them. Also I learned a lot about the culture so it makes the relationship very smooth. It's also important the other does the same for your own culture the best they can. As long as both are interest in learning and can have a laid back attitude in the relationship, it will flourish. Just make sure your goals of where to live are similar if you plan on a longterm relationship. I have seen relationships fail when one doesn't want to stay in the other's country and start a family there.

    Something that I have noticed about this topic is that there is a point that all Japanese (or/and Asian countries) repeat when there are this type of interviews, that the Japanese (or Asians)look for others to adapt to them and not that both (in the relationship ) complement each other as a couple, in terms of positive points of both cultures and languages.

      @mrahzzz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think you're generally right, but there are some situations where you kind of can!
      Particularly in customer service situations or when something is being offered to you.
      For example:
      "Would you like some water?"
      "Oh, thank you!"
      "Have you tried some of this? It's great!"
      "No I haven't, thank you!"
      "May/can I take your jacket?"
      "Thank you"
      "Please, sit down/take a seat!"
      "Thank you!"
      "Would you like to use this one?/You can use this one!"
      "Thank you!"
      Again though, I think you're right that in general, "thank you" isn't a way that you would most commonly express agreement, especially to ideas...
      although... it can happen to ideas... but maybe only in particular situations. For example, in lively disagreements, someone might say something like:
      "well, I think (Takashii's videos are better than _____ videos)."
      "THANK YOU. YES."
      The "thank you" here expresses the feeling of, "finally someone has said the thing I agree with/think myself."
      Even in the situations I described (accepting an offer/agreeing to a physical offer more so than expressing agreement), you might have more words of agreement or affirmation combined with the "thank you.
      E.G.: "would you like water?" "sure/yes/definitely/that'd be nice/I would/please!(/etc.). Thank you!"
      Tl;dr: you're right that there are more direct ways of expressing agreement (to ideas or an action) that are likely more common than just saying "thank you" alone, but it's not unheard of to express agreement (often to an action) by just saying "thank you."
      ^-^

    I noticed that Japanese men are more open to dating foreigners if they have a similar lifestyles(5:50,8:19).

    The bottom line is: date whoever is willing to give you what you want in a relationship. Some people aren’t willing to change and that’s ok. There’s some Americans I would not date because of their ideals, so it has nothing to do with the origin of the person. It comes down to values. If you really like someone, change comes naturally.
