      Cheers! This one was a little different in style, with a lot more exploring, paddling and scenery and almost no fishing involved. Beautiful place to wander around! I'm just back from shooting the next one - this time with fish included 🙂

    10/10 Doug.. you always show the beauty of Scotland in your videos. Peace, tranquillity and solitude. A weekend away to de stress from everyday life. Amazing👍

      Escapism is a very big part of it - I can almost feel the pressures of everyday life lifting physically as soon as I plonk myself down on the kayak seat. I'm lucky to be able to find that space for myself every now and again, and feel a lot better for it!

      Thanks very much - it's a very photogenic place, and I was quite chuffed with the way the sunset shot worked out. I'll be back there again I think!

    On Golden Pond? Great weather, scenery & camera work, well done & keep it up. Thanks for posting. Another tick in the box, one might say.

      Thanks Ash👍 I've still got my tick bites, which are fading all too slowly and are now joined by a fresh batch of midge bites. Gives me a nice healthy outdoors look🤣

      Glad you enjoyed it! I've been fishing that area a bit more over the past couple of years and I really enjoyed just paddling around on this trip, although it was definitely a little on the breezy side at times. With a little luck I'll be hiking the shoreline in a couple of months, assuming I make it that far on my Cape Wrath Trail attempt🙂

    The dead pony club was a good choice too 😉

      Brewdog should create something called Midge Exterminator or the like - anyone wandering the west coast at this time of year would buy gallons of the stuff🤣🤣 I'm just back from a couple of days on Etive and got well bitten - adding to the tick bites I still have from Hourn. Paradise has its price!!

      Glad you enjoyed it. The weather was fab too, although with quite gusty winds at times - I was too busy paddling to record video when it got too choppy for comfort at a couple of points. It did feel strange to be splashed by warm water though, as I'm much more used to freezing my fingers over most of the year🙂

      It's a very fine sea loch, if a little windy at times, and I'll definitely be back. Not the easiest of places to get to but that helps keep it fairly quiet. I'm hoping to try the Cape Wrath Trail in May so, with a little luck, that will take me along Loch Hourn again, although a different bit to what is shown in this video.
      Cheers, Doug

    Amazing views Doug what a place. Great picture quality and no midges. Brilliant video thanks for sharing.

    • @Corkwing-DougK
      @Corkwing-DougK  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Tony - I enjoyed that paddle, even if I did pretty minimal fishing. Whilst the breeze kept the midges at bay (most of the time!), the ticks had a good little nibble🙁. Just tiny ones but it took weeks for the bites to finally disappear! You're basically a free lunch for something as soon as you step ashore...

    That looked amazing , I have to admit I was jealous when you had the beer and the fresh mackerel!
    What a spot that was 👍🏻

    • @Corkwing-DougK
      @Corkwing-DougK  ปีที่แล้ว

      By that point in the day, the beer definitely trumped the mackerel! It's a cracking wee spot to pitch a tent, just on the northern edge of Knoydart and about as empty a shoreline as you'll find on the mainland.

      Me neither - I'd originally planned a 3 day trip but the forecast took a turn for the worse so I decided discretion was the better part of valour. Plenty more to see on Loch Hourn though so I expect I'll be back at some point.

      It's certainly a lovely place, and a kayak was a good way to explore it. I'll definitely be back again this year although it's a fair drive to get there.

      Thanks - Hourn is a very pretty loch surrounded by mountains, and quite remote. I was a bit taken aback when the cruise liner appeared and proceeded to do a 16 point turn! I just hope they keep a good eye open for little plastic logs crawling slowly out their way!

    Your films and content get better and better Doug, I missed the sizzle of the bacon but the sheer quality of youre one man production was excellent. You wondered if that was iron stone at the loch side, well I just retired after 58 years in the ironstone quarries and mines, the colour of the geology would suggest it was, our ironstone was "shaley" and had 24% iron in it at best. But back to your video...I really look forward to the next one mate.

    • @Corkwing-DougK
      @Corkwing-DougK  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for confirming - I come across bog iron type stuff often enough but this was quite a bit more dramatic and not something I've seen before. As for the sizzle - with a little luck it'll return in my next video, unless I screwed the footage up🙂. I've been over in Etive feeding midges for a couple of days, so will review the footage once the swelling subsides 🙁🙁

    Great as always. I'm considering to get kayak too, maybe a little inflatable, what do you think is better? I love that area next to Isle of Skye, so much to see. Would love to get some nice Bass, never caught one. Just came back from Oban, plenty of mackerels.
    Thank you for sharing!

    • @Corkwing-DougK
      @Corkwing-DougK  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kayak vs SIB is a hard choice to make as it comes down to the compromises you need to make. SIBs are probably more versatile, faster and easier to fish from but a kayak is almost silent and puts you in close contact with the water and is definitely more fun. SIBs will cost more as you need the outboard and also keep it maintained but they will carry more, potentially including 2 anglers. A kayak travels on your car roof whilst a SIB takes up most of the back of your car. If buying a SIB I'd definitely not go for a large one - you need a combination you can get to waters edge where there's no slip, and you don't want a heavy outboard that you can barely lift. Mine is 3.1m and is about as big as I'd want (maybe sneak up to 3.3 or 3.4m tops), and you get good performance (one aboard) with a 5 or 6hp outboard. Most engines over 6hp weigh a ton. Anything larger than this setup and most people end up with a trailer - in which case just buy a hard boat! I find a kayak fine for spinning or light drift fishing but I've never really taken to anchoring with it, possibly just a case of needing more experience with the things. So, I'm not really answering your question, but I hope there's a few things to consider in there!

    Fantastic Doug. Not been up that way for years, beautiful part of the world.
    Can I ask where you 'put in' from ? Looks like Arnisdale ?

    • @Corkwing-DougK
      @Corkwing-DougK  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes - I put in at Arnisdale. I could have put in at one of the slips there but they were quite busy just when I arrived. There's a nice new slipway been built too, which I didn't know existed but might come in handy if I take the bigger boat over at some point.

    1 complaint, video not long enough 😊 I sometimes wonder if I go camping to fish or fishing to camp, another few questions about your car(taking delivery of mine next week) how long have you had it, any info on timing belt change intervals, could you sleep in it if back seats removed?
    Thanks

    • @Corkwing-DougK
      @Corkwing-DougK  ปีที่แล้ว

      I often wonder myself about the fishing/camping thingy, but it really just depends. On this trip, or on Etive, it's definitely camping first, fishing second, but there are times when I'm a more dedicated angler (believe it or not!). re the car - my understanding is that quite a range of different engines exist, some with timing chains and others with timing belts, so you'd really need to check the specific car you're interested in. I have slept in mine a number of times, by shifting the passenger seat as far forward as it will go and packing all my crap into the space where the rear seat would go. It definitely helps if you put a little plywood box in place to lift the boot space an inch or two - I've found it OK but not something I'd want to do for more than a couple of nights. I'm about 5'9", so not sure how well it would work for a 6 footer.

      Loch Hourn is definitely very pretty, with a lot more tree cover than many of the sea lochs. It's also quite an empty place, particularly along the southern shore where almost no-one lives. Just the sort of country I like 🙂

    • @Corkwing-DougK
