    Modern Renaissance Man
, This guy first hit the stage at 13 years old (1960) playing the Artful Dodger in the West End London production of the musical "Oliver'". Mid to late 60's he fronted an extremely successful (top ten) band called The Small Faces. He left the band to join Peter Frampton and Humble Pie was formed. This clip in the video was just after Frampton left. I first got to see Steve in the mid 80's when, a little disillusioned with the business. he was back doing HIS thing HIS way, fronting a trio called Packet Of Three. Easily one the best acts I've ever seen and I've seen easily over a 1,000+ bands in my 50+ years going to gigs . It's worth checking out 'Steve Marriott' on Wikipedia to see where his influences are and 'Packet Of Three' here on TH-cam to hear his still very soulful vocal and guitar work. A very sad day for me when I heard the news in '91. Another British treasure gone but through his amazing talent, he's still with us through his music.

Kinda sad bit of info about the singer Steve Marriott. He went out one night with his wife and another couple. They had all had a lot to drink, so Steve's friends said stay at ours rather than getting a cab. But at around 1.30 in the morning, Steve woke up and without waking his wife, or telling anybody, he called a cab and went home alone. He went to bed and fell asleep with a cigarette burning. The house was burnt down and Steve was found hiding in a cupboard dead. He had a brilliant voice. If you listen to him in his other band The Small Faces Itchycoo Park, it's a classic.

His most famous song is called, itchy coo Park and it was one of the most popular songs of the 1960s. It was great! before he started the Group Humble Pie, his band was called Small Faces. Him and his band members were from England. If you get a chance listen to Itchy Coo Park.

All I had to see was "Black Coffee" and your face on the thumbnail reacting and I already knew I'd like it. Then I saw the basses and guitar in the back and I KNEW I'd like it. SUBSCRIBED, my friend.

One of my most enduring early '70s faves; glad to see Humble Pie transcending generations - for me, for one thing, their tone never grows old - still a potent combo of British blues, hard rock & lyricism. Hope you're ready to hear HP's take on I'm Ready - it smokes!

"Hmble Pie" was founded by the lead singer, "Steve Marriott, who had been a founding member of "Small Faces".
There's an excellent video history on youtube about "Small Faces" that will fill you in.

Steve Marriott was also in a group called the Small Faces before this group. They had some good songs, too.
Itchycoo Park, Sunday Afternoon and Tin Soldier are three examples.

I saw Humble Pie around 1975 and met Steve Marriot. He was a great guy. Also, the guy at the end was "Whispering" Bob Harris who hosted this show called "The Old Grey Whistle Test" whom I have also met.

Steve is the most underrated singer I can think of. He turned Jimmy Page down when Jimmy was putting Zeppelin together. He was almost the replacement for Brian Jones. I've heard about every studio, live, and bootleg you can possibly name. If he ever gave a bad performance, I've yet to hear it. Anyboby new to Steve should also check out The Small faces. It's a different beast than Humble Pie, but it's definitely worth a listen. When it came to rock roll vocals he was the Goat. Nobody even gets a close second. "Live With Me" from their self title 1970 album is a must hear. It's a little more laid back than the music Humble Pie would go on to make in the next 2 years. It's a pity that time has already mostly forgotten Steve. He was one of the best to ever do it. Maybe THE best.
