    OpenDG77 is totally awesome! Alone the user interface of your firmware is a relief. I wonder if someone at Yaesu/Icom/Kenwood/a Chinese manufacturer offered to hire you already -Thanks very much for your great work!

      LOL. Retrovis contacted me asking whether I was going to port the firmware to their radios, but no one has offered hardware or money to get the firmware working on any other radios.
      I'm only looking at the DM-1801 and then the RD-5R and the the TYT MD-380, because I have those radios already.

      Loving OpenDG77 on the 1801- so much progress. Helped me make up my mind about getting one. Well done.

    Hi There Roger, I was wondering if it was please at all possible if you could explain in a new video on the GD-77 Solder D Pads for EEPROM Flash using a ST-Linker. What Wires Solder on where and etc. If So Be much appreciated. Thanks

      @vk3kyy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've never connected to the EEPROM, also this radio does not use a STM32 processor, so you can't connect to it using a ST-Link programming dongle (unless perhaps there is a way to do so using OpenOCD)
      If you look at the video with this link th-cam.com/video/EyWjvL0vz-E/w-d-xo.html you can see the SWD pads where I connect the J-Link debugger programmer. These connections are to program the main microcontroller chip, which is a NXP MK22FN512
      The pads are clearly labelled on the PCB.

    are the dmr reception and decoding the same in the 2 or is the baofeng better? seems to vary little

    Nice comparison. When the audio chip is different how does the audio/mic sound differ of both devices? Which sounds better?

      I don't think there is any huge difference in audio quality.

    Are the batteries the same. Can they be swapped between the GD-77 and the DM-1801. The clip broke on my battery for my GD-77 and it seems impossible to get a battery here in the USA for it. Have been looking for a replacement for like 5 months. So looking for options for replacement.

    • @vk3kyy
      @vk3kyy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The batteries are not exactly the same size.
      I have a DM1801 I use with one of my GD-77, but its a very very tight fit. I had to push it on very hard to get it to clip in place, and I have to use a screwdriver to lever it out, if I want to remove it.

    • @Robert-Wilson

      VK3KYY VK3KYY Roger Clark ok thanks. It is bull that no where can you get replacement batteries for the gd-77. Every where is either don’t have any or sorry we can’t ship to you. Love my radio with the open GD-77 firmware on it but not being able to take the radio any where because the battery falls off since that little clip broke gets my nerves.

      @@Robert-Wilson The problem seems to be increasing regulation of sending batteries in the post. I managed to get some DM-1801 batteries about 9 months ago, but after that the supplier said they were no long allowed to post them.
      I received Retevis RT3S radio the other day, and they had opened the box and clipped the battery to the radio prior to posting it, which I think its to get around the regulations about posting items with separate batteries or even posting separate batteries.

    • @Robert-Wilson
      @Robert-Wilson 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      VK3KYY VK3KYY Roger Clark yea it all bull. How does shipping a battery with an item make it any safer than a battery in a box by it self. If a lithium battery is going to go nuclear it don’t give a damn if it in a device or by it self.

    Roger, the label of your radio says DM-860. What the firmware was saying once powered up the first time?

    • @vk3kyy
      @vk3kyy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't remember what the firmware originally displayed, I've already reflashed the radio several times, including with the OpenGD77 firmware.
      The PCB has DM-1801 written on it, but the label on the main chassis under the batter has DM-860 written on it.
      The 2 model numbers seem to be interchangable.

    Hey Roger- Any plans on adding talker alias to the Radioddity GD-73 tiny radio?

    • @vk3kyy
      @vk3kyy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can't be done, because the DMR chip now also contains the main CPU core, and the Chinese company who makes these chips never releases any data sheets for any of their products.

    Dear friend, I have a new battery (DM 1801 battery) and it charges to 100% full 8.45 + - volt the problem until the voltage reaches 8.3 the speaker emits a noise similar to when it is connected to the charger . According to low voltage, noise disappears and it is only through the loudspeaker. The strange noise does not seem to come out of the headphones..
    I saw a modification that put one of the speaker cables I think to ground or in another close contact, I do not know if that is a solution.

      This is a hardware bug on older GD-77 radios.
      Jason VK7ZJA developed a hardware modification, see the section
      "Soft audio squeal at low volume". in
      members.optuszoo.com.au/jason.reilly1/GD77mods.htm
      In newer GD-77 radio's, I think they are manufactured with this modification already applied

      @@eiselengel7707 . Ah you mean which radio is better.
      I have some problems with my DM-1801 (aka DM-860) with my hotspot, so in my opinion the GD-77 is better because I never had any problems.
      But the DM-1801 has more flash memory and is cheaper, and has extra buttons for MR/VFO and VFO A/B and I know some people had no problems with it.
      So its difficult to pick a clear winner.
