This could have been a fitness song I used to walk home in the late 60,s and to get there before dinner and I would sing this song and before you know it I was there.
This is probably one of the best performances I've ever seen. What a band! That opening horn/bass line that carries through the song is just a true, nasty groove. You know something wicked is coming when the song opens. Love to see a band having such a great time backing a singer who looks like he is in his element doing what he loves (and doing it so incredibly well). His voice is still in top form here (30 years after he debuted this hit). If this doesn't get you moving, check your pulse!
You're so lucky to have seen him live. So many of these immortal soul giants are no longer with us, and I wish I could just into a time machine and go back JUST to see them live in their prime.
This guy was brilliant. I remember this song coming out when I was in 8th grade. I immediately loved it. I had it on a monaural reel to reel tape with some Sam and Dave stuff.
His best friend at the time, a fellow singer, but in a different genre, called this "The finest piece of soul I've ever heard". And who was Edwin's best friend? Desmond Dekker. They'd been best friends since they appeared together on a UK package tour in the early 70's.
Edwin Starr had more soul in his pinky finger than the entire music industry these days...
Still at the top of his game even right before he past. Starr is underappreciated -- one of the best voices in soul, love the intensity.
Used to dance to this at our monthly "Drop-ins" dances in junior high. it was a favorite for the dance contest. He sounds just the same.
Loved throughout the world, but especially here in the UK by the Northern Soul scene. Ktf.
Just an amazing performance 35 years after he recorded it, and then we lose him. Life’s not freakin fair!!
Rip saxman james and edwin starr. Peace.
Anyone else remember him at the New Century Hall in Manchester without his band? He was BRILLIANT!!!
What a combination of brass, strings, keys, percussion, vocals, soul, blues, rock & roll and showmanshp!
Always a truly terrific band.
This great performer made you get up and dance. Forget going to the gym .... just put on the late great Edwin Starr.
My favorite track by Edwin Starr. Smoking version live! RIP Edwin. Soul royalty!
Man this rips. Grew up on this track.

He still had the goods all the way to the end!
Didn't he, Wow!!!
Wow, just.....Wow!. Just stumbled across this. The man was a gifted and brilliantly talented. So good and so missed. R.I.P. Mr. Starr
