Man, this is a nostalgia trip. Cant believe this was uploaded when I was 11 years old. Still needed this tutorial in 2021 when I decided to bring out ts3 for the first time in years.
I've been watching/reading building tutorials since 2005. Being dislexic, I couldn't understand much of it. When you do it, about 90% is making sense to me. I'll be 50 in November...Dude, you just taught an old dog a new trick! That's pretty amazing. James, have you ever considered teaching for a living?...you've definitely got a gift.
WOAH! You actually answered! O_o can I just say your an amazing builder and I love your vids! You play ALL the games I love! Your the one TH-camr I watch that plays RCT! :D
omg! thank you sooo much!! that's exactly what i want to do, and didn't even know it was possible! o.O and i actually didn't know the thing with holing alt to get the right stairs hight^^ sooo great, i'm so relieved this is possible and even so easy! :)
Lol what time is it where you are James? It's none of my business but it 1:20 for me! Don't ask why I'm up... I just don't sleep very well. But I like seeing these videos anyway! :3
Thanks for the video, I had been trying to figure out how to do this on & off for a couple years. Fun fact: I also closed out the sims & immediately tried to rotate your camera with my mouse. I am stupid.
Is it possible to build a 2 story house where you walk in on the second floor and the first floor is half in the ground? Kind of like a basement but just half way down so you have windows? I'm trying to make my house but I can't figure out how to do it.
I dunno if you ever figured it out yourself but your question piqued my curiosity and I was able to make a basement with a short window on the ground level and glass flooring. Maybe someone made an invisible floor tile you can use. Alternatively to the altered wall, you can use a half roof for an interesting shape.
I have a minor but very annoying problem when playing Seasons with a balcony or foundation. In Winter when it snows, any balcony or foundation I make outside would flicker terribly & even setting edge smoothing on high & going on windowed mode doesn't fix this at all. I reloaded my game about 3 times, no fix. The floor tiles inside my Sim's house & placing floor tiles on the 1st floor outside is unaffected & works fine. I never had this problem before I switched pcs. Once the snow melted, I saved my game & reentered & it stopped flickering. While this was happening, I deleted the balcony & after going to live mode, a line formed as if the balcony is still there. I cleared my caches every time I stop playing. Am I doing something wrong while building the foundation?
It does not work. when i put the first stairs into the foundation and then level the foundation to make it lower, it automatically levels the grass as well a level lower. I do everything exactly in the same order but get different result.
For those who are sick of listening to The Geek who made this video he forgot to let you know that the way you level terrain is you put the button that says raise to rain in the low spots until it's higher than everything else then when you're finished with that you press the level terrain button and drag your cursor across those areas and it will flatten the land to the highest flat level. Wallah from a black dude
He meant because you can just adjust wall and foundation heights by sliding up and down, meaning this gives him a reason not to buy the Sims 4. :/ Stupid reason in my opinion...

Make sure your game is up to date.
In the end constrainfloorelevation false is the thing I miss the most. Maybe even more then create a style
If you hold alt while placing foundation in the first place, it'll bring the foundation down to the smallest height
How do you bring it up higher than the normal foundation
Again, this is nothing like Sims 4, plus exactly this was in TS2 as well, it's a long lived feature.
I actually didn't know this and I've been playing The sims for over 9 years! So thank you so much! It'll come in handy!
Thanks for this video! I don't know how many times ive tried this and failed. You've broken it down really well!!
I knew about alt and drag ( no cheats on) to get a single stair height foundation, but not the rest! Thanks, James!
cool! I knew you could hold alt to get the 1 step size foundation by holding alt but not about the stairs themselves.
Yep that's right!
3.20pm at this current second!
They should have a hot bar/favourites on the side of screen for your favourite tools used in build mode - Wishing for Sims 4
Was wondering how this was done, especially when building a futuristic house. THANK YOU
Thanks for this. I had no idea about single steps and that one step foundation is more familiar to me.

HOW DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT HOLDING ALT WITH STAIRS! omg... thank you so much.
RCT3 to be precise, James is running a Let's Play on his other channel - Flabaliki.
Lol knew how to do it before, but the way i did it was much more complicated. So thanks for showing an easier way

Literally a life saver
Cool i had no idea how too do this. I hope this is a lot easier too do in the sims 4.
That's so useful, thank you!! x

That was on my birthday.Thank you!
It came in Island Paradise :)
Thanks :) I have wanted too build a foundation with only two steps for a long time, this is perfect :) ALT key is awsome... yeah.
Still super useful! Thank you!!
nice, but evne if i have ALT pressed, it keeps placing 4 step stairs, why?
When you posted this it was 1:20 Eastern Standard Time.
Thanks for the video, I had been trying to figure out how to do this on & off for a couple years. Fun fact: I also closed out the sims & immediately tried to rotate your camera with my mouse. I am stupid.
Thank you for sharing this James! It's so good to know :)
its not a cheat. its hold the left mouse and move it up/down.
THIS GAME IS THE BEST GAME
Can we join different level foundations together?
Thank you! I did not know they added this. :)
James, I was wondering if there is some sort of way you can actually make the curtains FIT to the windows, so they at least have the same height..

What will happen if we put in furnitures and let sims live in a lowered room? Will they bug out or stick out of the roof?

Is it possible to build a foundation on top of another foundation?
I'm going to try this asap!
The smaller foundation is much nicer. I may try this. :)
My ARTPOP could mean anything, james! Anything!
do you have to have Island Paradise for this to work ?
WOW thanks James!
Unfortunately due to a bug that my computer has adopted I am unable to do cool stuff like this. But i did enjoy this video.

your awesome james keep up the great and awesome work and videos! :) :D

You need to hold down "ctrl"
So if I just want a 2 step foundation, but regular walls after that, I can just do the foundation as shown here, and build normal after that, correct?
Please do a tutorial for flat roofs and skylights! Thumbs this up so he can see please!
His profile not his The Sim Supply facebook
It came in Island Paradise so not many will know about it.
Thank you ☺️
Can we do it with only the base game ?
How? This is nothing like Sims 4 lol
thank you i have been wondering how you do that awile now :)
This did not work for me, i followed all instructions and it only made the foundation go back to regular height.
You may have used the leveling tool wrong. James has a tutorial about the lvl tool.
Can someone tell me what the cheat is to move pictures ect up or down the wall at various heights??
How to make the walls taller??
Where's Island Paradise?
LOL i found james on facebook and no i am not gonna share the link
Didn't work for me sir please help
