I would go and etch your name and address on it in several places including on the underside so its harder for them to try to say it is thsirs.. Cops love etched ID #'s

Go to Harbor freight and spend $15 on a metal stamping set and stamp your phone number on it in several places (not in plain sight). If the thieves see it, they'll think it's a part number.

    • @1gatomon
      @1gatomon 5 ปีที่แล้ว +19

any kinds of stamped or etched Id on your item makes it easy to identify after it is ripped off. I once had some crack head take my floor jack out from under a car I was working on. The next days I was checking out all the Pawn shops in the area and Volia there it was sitting for sale with my ID# still on it! I called the police and they came by and got the persons Id and such then after a day or so I got my jack back. The Crack head was sitting in jail at that point...

@Bumpy Johnson if you pay attention the owner said and told police he knows where the trialer is all they had to do was go and look and do a simple investigation. talk to who ever has controll of trailer ask where there documentation is on trialer registration. if there is no vin the cops can say this trailer needs to have registration to be driven on the roads and with no vin it cant be. than run the pple who have said stolen trailer for warrents. its a win win they cld have arrested known felons and recovered stolen property instaed of saying we cant be bothered there is no way for us to tell because there is a sticker for vin.

The trailer has a Bulldog hitch, or a knock off of one, just put a bulldog hitch lock on it. Master Lock makes one that's pretty tough. You'd need a torch to cut it off and then you'd probably cut the hitch and render it useless while you were at it. Also, chain the trailer to a large steel post concreted in the ground. Most thieves are looking for a quick snatch and run operation, so as long as it's in a well lit and easily observable area they won't take the time to cut a hitch lock and a chain securing the trailer to a steel post. Best idea is still to put it inside. Stamp the VIN in the frame in several easily viewable and hidden places. Put it on the axles too.

We had a trailer stlen a couple of years ago. The trailer was not worth a whole lot it was really old but rebuilt by the family. It was great grandpas and he had made it. So it was mostly a nostalgia thing and the whole family shared it. To this day it makes me so mad that some loser can just walk away with something thats yours. We never got it back and same thing told by the police that even if we found it it would be impossible to prove it was ours. Glad you got yours back. I traveled westbound through Midwest City, Oklahoma with my newly acquired and repaired 1976 GMC Motorhome in 2012. The GMC had developed vapor lock three times, and, in this town, it happened the fourth time. The coach always developed the problem near (1) a freeway exit, (2) a Shell station and (3) A Super 8 motel! People were so helpful, and one mechanic replaced the carburetor inlet fuel filter for me at no charge. Maybe a different era ten years ago!

I know this sounds out there Randy, but my dad used to cut the tongue off the trailer. Then retrofit it with a fitting that allowed him to put it back on the trailer, (ya know like a coupler that would be used to join two pipes)and take it off as needed!! We had a couple stolen from us until my dad did that, and well...( chuckling)that never happened again! He also removed the safety chains (in a way so that they could go back on...) that way it couldn't be towed with just the chains, like you explained in the video when you said it was stolen! Damn Glad you got it back!!

Had this happen before, got back one trailer out of three I've had stolen in the past 25 yrs or so. Only got it back because a good friend of mine found it on Facebook. Called police and when I got to the home where it was they had ground down the VIN number. I had welded custom legs with pins to level the trailer when not hooked to truck. I described it before they let me show them. I weld my initials on every job I do now. All trailers, mowers and equipment I own have it also. Hard lesson to learn. Glad you got your property back. While the vin is a sticker, normally when you peal them off (has to do this when they got mixed up) they sticker leaves parts of it behind that say "VOID" all over. Those can be pulled off as well (it is a pain in the a**) so we also stamped the vin under the trailer in no less then 2 locations.

When my dogs got out about 3 years ago. The person that found them was selling them on Craigslist when I found the listing I contacted him. He never responded when he didn’t respond I posted another ad stating those dogs were mine. One person saw my ad and contacted him then he gave me his information and I was able to get my dogs back. I know it’s not car related but I’m glad you were able to recover your trailer.

Glad to hear your trailer is back with you. It’s a good idea to weld the last 5-6 digits of the vin number on the trailer because my trailer has that welded onto the A frame coupler area and it’s obvious if it gets ground down and I also put a secondary vin number hidden on my trailer as well

In NC we stamp the VIN on the axle. It's required to pass inspection.

Weld your vin on it in 5 or 6 places and take one of those and weld over it with a piece of steel so it cant be seen unless u cut the welds

I alao found out if u weld the vin with stainless rods its almost impossible to grind off the vin with out destroying the carbon steel

Hey Randy, how you doing man?
I'm new to your channel. I've seen some videos and I think is should comment now.
I saw that video of you grinding the lock where ball bearings coming off and you cut it on 2 places.
    It great your trailer back.
And I'm meaning to say this. Buddy you're a lucky Son of A Gun.
You end up buying great cars. Especially that Cadillac SRX. Because, the gaps between the hood and fender and the door was just OEM. I learn a lot from you, thanks a lot for your videos. I studied Biomedical engineering a while ago and knows a thing or about fitness as well.
Any how, I love your enthusiastic display of video making.
I have an advice you carry around your gimbal, sometimes you should have a Go Pro. Cause, one hand is always occupied and thst limits you doing a lot. It will effect your video timing as well. Well that's my opinion.
I had been making videos as well so I know. But mine were more fitness based.
    Take care man. And Congrats

I def recommend etching the vin or welding a plate with the vin in a few places. Maybe make 1 place super inconspicuous, and the other 2 obvious. That way any potential thief would see the obvious ones and remove them and not find the hidden 1.
Also invest in a quality GPS tracking device. That way as soon as its taken you can track it before the thief discards the trailer and or finds said tracker.
