That was a great video. Thanks for sharing your journey with us. Sorry you couldn’t get a train ticket for the first leg and sorry about having to put up with that snoring man for an hour. Glad you made it to Singapore though.
A Very Belated Welcome to Penang! Am glad you enjoyed your stay in Penang. Holler when you're planning to come back here! From your longtime subscriber from Penang.
What a journey Paddy! Safe to say flying is more worth it any day 😂 My friend and I once took the train from Chiang Mai to Bangkok, just to experience a train ride in Thailand. Let’s just say, next time I’ll fly
Thank you, Paddy. That was an awesome presentation.. Thank you for sharing the trip with us. Your commentary was captivating. I really enjoyed this video. Ys, I have heard of the famous Hat Yai fried chicken but have never experienced it. So jealous now. I love train trips but I won't be travelling s far in so little time. ( Old age, you know 😅) Enjoy your travels. Cheers.
I’ve frequently entertained the idea of using the train in Thailand. I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s easier to fly and you’ve confirmed it. Having said that I’m going to drive from Chiang Mai to Malaysia in April. Definitely going to check out Penang.
I've done the overnight train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. I should have flown. I flew back to Bangkok and it was much less stressful and more comfortable.
Wow what a journey, I used to live in Hat Yai in my teenage years.. Great small city. I used to attend catholic school near that Kai-Tod Decha location. My mom used to pick me up there after school. I get a lot of nostalgia watching this.
I did that once, years ago. I almost died of frost bite on the Thai train. It was freezing, I was on top bunk and had roaches crawling around me. Oh, Georgetown had massive rats running under our feet in restaurants.
You live in Thailand and come back every year and have never been to Malaysia? Wow, im only at Minute 8, but im sure you will have an exciting time there!
5:58 I am glad you said something about it because I am so done with pushy tuk tuk drivers man. I am a caucasian woman who speaks Thai. I have traveled in Thailand extensively, I have no problems doing whatever I need to do. I went to Savannakhet via Mukdahan recently and the scene of tuk tuk drives at the Mukdahan bus station was insane. A pack of them literally bombarded me the minute I stepped out of the van, I let them know I did not need a ride, but then some even followed me to the bathroom, waited for me to come back out of the bathroom and then one followed me around the train station. I had to get very direct with him to get him to f off. Super draining and it was also scary and not something I expected to have happen in Thailand. Unfortunately this is just one of a handful of stories that I have that involve pushy tuk tuk drivers.
Idea for thai contents for Thailand please 🙏 why 3 southern provinces Trad , ปัตตานี and Yala ja !!! I dare you khun Paddy ❤from Paddy Sydneyleaving bkk soon 😢
I've never understood why anyone would buy a walk-up ticket on the day, let alone the day before, when you can just book online in advance. I think they even have seat selection. Even if they had seats, they would be the worst ones that nobody else wanted. And in many countries, last minute tickets cost more. (Definitely don't leave it to the last day in England.)
So cute to see people in 2025 having an “adventure” by catching a train long distance. Back in the 60s 70s and 80s people were making their way from Bali to Europe overland, no flights, no guide books, no mobile phones, not much English spoken etc. etc. Myself, I spent many many months traveling in Nepal and India, in buses where the only way to avoid the unbelievably cramped interior, complete with goats and chickens and locals vomiting (as nobody was used to wheeled transport), was to ride on the roof. My longest train trip was 52 hours in India, but I had many long train trips, sitting on crowded wooden benches, a toilet which was a steel lined hole to the outside world. We didn’t fly because flights mostly didn’t exist or as all flights were back then, they were ridiculously expensive. You found hotels in places you arrived in by simply walking around and looking. There was no other way to do it. In the villages of the Nepal Himalayas you had to walk everywhere, there was no electricity and no toilets or bathrooms. Water came from a communal well or spring, and you dug a small hole and squatted in the nearest field for a toilet. You mostly slept on straw mats on the mud floor of the houses with no windows but wooden shutters with only an open wood fire for cooking and candles for light. But it was all an adventure. I did that 3 times in the eighties. Each trip was 5-6 months. A letter took 2 weeks to reach home. There was no planning you just went somewhere that other travelers said was worth going to. Those were the days. But nice to see an adventurous spirit still alive, in you Paddy.
I did it in the 50s mate, you guys in the 80s were traveling in pampered luxury lol. We used to crawl naked across India and Nepal, and literally sleep in piles of human excrement. Pretty cute you think you really travelled.
Such a wild idea....I'm inspired to follow your steps =D. As a dancerush player, I can also try to meet the local players along the way! PS. A quick summary of total cost and time at the end would be realllyy nice 🚤
Another great vid Paddy. You are an adventurer!
Thanks a lot Bryan! Although, I don’t know if I’ll be doing this adventure again anytime soon 😅
Heck of an adventure mate! Looking forward to the video from Pattani and Yala 🙏

Good on you Paddy. I’ve done a couple of those legs of travel…fun times!
I am too old to do that nowadays. My bum would be so numb. Nice trip though mate. That chicken made my mouth water.
I will add that I spend most of my time trying to translate your Thai in my head and trying not to look at the subtitles 555
I will not be doing it again soon 😂 glad you enjoyed it (and the chicken) and glad you can learn some Thai along the way 👌
13:50 wow as a tall guy I really appreciate this bus. Reminds me of Cherry Bus from Puerto Princesa to El Nido

Great video mate 👍
Props to you for the long adventure! I would never do that lol
I took a train from Singapore to Bangkok on my very first visit to Thailand in 1998. I think this train travel has improved since then.
Nice one mate !!!
welcome to singapore, hope you made some videos here!
I made one! Coming soon. Thanks for watching 🙏
Sort out you plans and do the train trip if you can. It will give you memories of a lifetime.
@6:07 The guy probably just thought you were Bradman Best
A very small amount of people will get this comment. But I love it
For long travel by bus, I recommend Nakhornchai Air, or Sombut Tour. You will get the good quality seating and movie like sitting on air plane.
