I agree. Gold medal is the roof and the bottom is the disqualification from this mini tournament. This team needs a huge achievement in order to become mentally strong and have a consistency in the following years. Spanoulis was one of the strongest mentally players (him and Diamantidis) of all time in Europe. So i trust him

Thomas walkup, Kalaitzakis and Laretzakis are excellent defenders, i don't think that Greece has no answer for Doncic. I'd say Slovenia has no answer for Giannis.

These concerns about Greece and the way they performed the previous years are valid but they don’t take into account the recent change of coach. Spanoulis is expected to change the way Greece is playing making the game faster and allowing the excess of talent in his team to be expressed and make the difference. Let’s hope we will see beautiful basketball and may the best one win!

You cannot lose just from one player. Greece has many experienced tall defenders that can guard and wear out Doncic while at the same time it is quite solid in its offence. It also has a very clever coach who used to be Luka's idol as a player.

When you have a guy like Giannis on your roster, three-pointers are perhaps the most important way to determine the winner. No coach will choose to lose because of Giannis. So, they guard him with double and triple teams and hope that the other four players won't score from outside the arc. This is how the Bucks have been building their roster all these years, and this is why Greece has struggled all these years. The key is to find a way to integrate Giannis into the squad, rather than building the squad around Giannis (talking ONLY about Greece), because Giannis unfortunately isn't Durant, who can kill you from a distance if you give him some space.

He also knows how to make the right reads when they send multiple defenders at him, he’s literally been doing it for the past 4-5 years. Also Giannis still has his quickness, give him space and he’ll close the distance and be at the rim before the defense has time to realize

The open players must hit the threes! For example yesterday everyone was more than decent from the three point line and this is why Greece had an easy night. This is why we need Sloukas at the team. He cann be both a creator at the pick n roll with Giannis (like Nick) but he can also kill you from outside.
Thomas Walkup is literally the perfect counter for Luka. I mean no one can really stop him but if I can choose one player to defend him its Walkup

Greece was missing a 5 that could shoot the ball and that was the main problem. This is why greece hasnt done well in the last tournaments. Now with Papagiannis Mitoglou all available, they are a completely different team. Calathes elite defender and playmaker, walkup elite defender and Toliopoulos or Larentzakis are excellent spot up shooters. Giannis now can easily play as a power forward and with his elite rebounding and floor stretching, Greece looks a lot better than the previous years. I cant even imagine what this Greek team could do if Sloukas was healthy.

@@innosanto He will play as a 5 in the national team when giannis is the 4. And thats exactly the 5 Greece need. Giannis defensively covers up any weakness on the post. Panathinaikos is a completely different team dont mix it up.
You make some solid points. My only problem is that I personally didn't see a good enough defence against Dominican Republic. This could change but Greece needs its strong defence to win otherwise there will be trouble

Before i saw the new version of Greece i wasn't very optimistic. But this team plays really good defence and that makes the difference . Of course,if it comes to a game, anything can happen. But Greece has the advantage.

You don t know our capabilities. Toliopoulos, Kalaitzakis and Charalampopoulos are Euroleague star level . They just didint have the opportunity to shine in the highest level in their career until now. You ll see.Greece is more than Giannis in offense. Especially in half court offense
😂 let's not exaggerate. Kalaitzakis is a good defender and Toliopoulos and Charalmpopoulos can be solid role players. There's no star players in those guys, and the only one that plays Euroleague is Kalaitzakis.
I have seen young Diamantidis.Kalaitzakis is Diamantidis material if a coach believe in him. Toliopoulos reminds me Spanoulis but he is a little be shorter but he plays hard in defence..They are good players. If you see their skill you can understand. If see stats you dont. Stats come as a result of a skillful player with experience that is trusted by his coach . These players didn have the the experience and the trust. But we will tell in five years.. I also believed that Sloukas was F4 Mvp level but you guys didnt belive me. Look the skill not the stats

Coming here after the fact but after the 30 point blowout i hope you had your answers.Slovenia lacks the firepower apart from luka that made them so dangerous the previous years.Greece, defensively if u see the roster has one the biggest guard and forward line up in the tournament.They also stated that everything for them starts from the defence plus dont forget in this tournament there are not the defensive limitations of the nba,so guarding luka closer and more intense was plausible and thats what they did.Not suprised greece won,but the margin yes was suprising considering how good slovenia was the previous years

Giannis can't do the things he did in the nba. He needs an open space, thing that won't find against most teams in the international tournaments. He also needs to have talented teammates, something he doesn't have in abundance in my Greek team.

Also I think it is false for a team to double team luka because he is a magician in passes and he will find the open shoot, if Greece find the transitions and has a decent present above 30% in 3s, has a lot of opportunities to win
