My thoughts on the Google Pixel 6a after almost two years now in 2024, and I have to say it's been one of the best values in tech. And while I don't think the phone was a mistake, Google clearly made a mistake by letting such a great value through, since that hasn't been its trend ever since. If you can pick one up for cheap in 2024, I still highly recommend the experience.

My brother has had one for years now, and he loves it!!
you can make a good salesman cuz i might as well buy this phone to hold on for a while. tried of my iPhone 8's 3 hour battery
I bought a 6a 18 months back. I've been itching to own a Pixel for years and finally took the plunge.
I stuck it in a very cheap (but very stylish) Teahoya case and slapped a really good Screen Protector on, it's still in mint condition. Apart from the pointless Search Bar, which I was able to remove by transferring my Nova Launcher settings from my old Samsung, I still absolutely _love_ using it.
Recently, I've been itching to "upgrade" to the 7a/8a, but have held off, partly because the prices keep varying (the 8a is going for as little as £399 in the UK and the 7a, £299) but also because, each time I pick up the 6a, I'm reminded of what a great little phone I already have and I keep telling myself not to just waste money, when I don't need to.
Oh, and the fingerprint sensor just seems to get better and better!
😉
If you really think about it, the pixel 6A is the M1 MacBook Air of Google pixels
I own both
Pixel 6a is really good phone!!
This phone rocks... If I want AI, I'll use my PC.. I'm not a photographer so I don't need 1000megapixels on my phone... 90hz?? 95% of people can't tell the difference
Still using my 6a although I'm itching to upgrade. I still hate the fingerprint sensor, but yeah, for the price i paid, this thing was untouchable. The camera is still amazing and it gave me a affordable taste of what the pixel experience is like.
I imagine that I'll be using my Pixel 6a for the next few years. It does everything that i want it to do so well that i have no desire to upgrade.
Same same! Only issue is even though it has improved since the Android 14 update, it gets warm which makes me wonder about its longevity.
Loving my Pixel 6a. Can't think of any reason to upgrade to anything else.
❤️👍💯
I have the 15 pro max and I still like the photos from my Pixel 6a and enjoy the UI more.
Pixel 4a was the best for me. I just cannot not have a headphone jack and pay more for less. And I want the tactility of a physical fingerprint reader.
Yes, 4a was great, but the 6a has been an awesome phone
My 6A is still fantastic and performes better than ever. I feel like Android 14 made it BETTER.
Still use mine as well. Not in a hurry to upgrade. Got it for $299 CAD. The odd dropped call but otherwise it's been perfect
Dropped calls happen to every phone nowadays.
New Pixel user 2 years ago when I got my 6a for $249 as a Xmas 🎄 gift from my wife. Coming from a flagship killer ZTE Axon 10 Pro unlocked ($550+tax) one Android update & a few security updates and No more support whatsoever! Ugh 😫
This is a Great 👍💯 device and a deal for that price along with timely updates & security patches. 😊
Got mine for $299 too and have no plans of upgrading until the day it dies! Since it gets warm occasionally I do wonder about its longevity though.
Don't forget call screen too.

Watching this on the OG pixel 3a 😎
Nice! I loved my 3a XL. Such great devices.
I love my 8 Pro but I've still got my 6a same colour and I still like to use it sometimes. Lovely sized light device.
I still use a 6a in 2024 (switched from a Galaxy phone) & I LOVE it, my wife uses a Pixel 7 but honestly I'm fine with my 6a especially for the price I bought it
The 6a was great for my girlfriend for a while but Best Buy had an awesome $300 trade in deal towards the Pixel 8 w/free Pixel Buds Pros. Couldn't pass up an opportunity to peer pressure my girlfriend into upgrading 🤣
one of the best phones I've had for learning app development!
I still have, use and love this phone. I paid $299 for it during the Black Friday 2022 sale at Google's store page. I sent in my 4a and got $70 back a couple weeks later. So the price is amazing.
My only real complaint about the 6a is screen brightness in the midday sun. Otherwise, it's fantastic :)
you can pickup 8a this black friday sale for even cheaper.
Love my Pixel 6a, no need to upgrade something that is already great, while the "upgrade" can be nothing less than frustration that cost you money.
Straight talk still has this for 200 bucks. Out the door is about 270 for the phone and plan, straight talk will remote unlock it after two months.
he said price about 150, 170 bucks. Where can i found this phone at the price?
Great job, so true. Upgraded from 4a to 6a a couple years ago, it's been a great phone. Had some hanging-freezing issues for a bit, some seems fine now
Steve, I feel the same way about this phone. I have a 6a and a 7 Pro, yet I find myself always reaching for the 6a. It does 90 percent of what the 7 Pro does while being lighter and easier in the hand. Love your review. Google seems dead as a value brand.
It's a shame! They had such a nice mix going with the Pixel 6a.
the pixel 6a problem for me was the finger print reader, but they did fix it with updates, but man at first it was the worst experience of any phone i ever own when it came to unlocking it. man the finger print reader did not work good at all and i remember i was having a lot of regrets buying that phone, they fixed it after a fw months but getting a new device and having that problem was not good experience on a new device and also i never bought another pixel since ... and I honestly don't think i ever will again, i might get a Nothing Phone 2a
I've never had a problem with mine, phone is awesome
Man, this may have just sold me on it. I had a 4a when it was new years ago but idk if I got a lemon or the cpu was just a hair too slow like some reviewers said but I had a horribly laggy experience with it out and about choking trying to check gamestop's website for a controller then ordering a dominos pizza on their website, I opted to get rid of it shortly after. Anyway, I can get a new 6A WITH a year of unlimited tracfone mins/texts and a bunch of data that can be topped off as needed for only $268 from QVC and that's without even searching around online for promo codes. Just the monthly equivalent plan over a year's time would be that much, so the phone is essentially free lol. I have an extremely ailing iphone SE 2nd gen and have been looking for something to switch to. The A54 with the same year's worth of unlimited service is also only $339, basically making the A54 about ~$70ish. Some online really seem to rag on this 6A for the battery life, overheating, and supposedly the fingerprint sensor, but the sensor has supposedly been fixed with updates, and idk about the other issues, actual users seem to like the phone
The fingerprint sensor is not that bad. I've literally never had any issues. Same with the battery. It lasts me about a day and a half.
Finger print reader is useless for me, I have to use Pin to unlock. Go for 7a or may be wait for 8a
I managed to pick one up at my local Wal Mart through Verizon prepaid for $99. For that price it's an excellent value. You get almost flagship level on most everything and a few years of fast updates left. Also I didn't care about the 60 Hertz because on Pixels it's like iPhone where 60 Hertz still works well.
This phone was really great to hold and use. I had a 6 also at the time. The only reason I didn't keep the 6a was because my 6 was the 256GB version and had more accessories for it.
Comment on the fingerprint sensor and overheating.
P6A is one of the best low budget phones there is especially as a camera phone
The pixel 6a is solid, but to me I think the 7a is the best since it does come with 8GB of ram which will certainly help prolong the overall life of the device. Still with that being said my gf loves the 6a that I bought her like a year or so ago
Unfortunately, my 6a fps is still unusable.
Don't know how you manage...like flipping through a picture book.
@@StevealiciousTech I don’t manage anymore, It’s collecting dust. Google quality control at its best. Some work, some don’t. I’m sure yours works fine.
Google gave me the 6a after my 5a's motherboard died. The 5a was a better phone. MUCH better battery. Wider body (I make so many typing errors on the 6a because it is way too narrow). Headphone jack. Higher res screen, and the fingerprint reader on the back was MUCH more reliable. The 6a is the first phone I have seen that I can honestly say looks much better with a case than without it. Still, I do appreciate the additional updates.
Just paid $50 for a used Pixel 6a, works fine
Hi from Hawaii 🏝️
Yes to the aluminum frame. My 2-year-old 6A has bare paint on the corners to show it half a dozen cracks on the screen and the Volkswagen beetle of phones in my opinion. Thank you for sharing..🪐
A few things I dislike about my 6a
1. Battery life now is absolutely trash, charging is relatively slow and I'm on my feet all day so I can't always sit and charge my device. I get like half a day, full day if i barely use it.
2. After adding my work profile, the tensor is starting to show it's age, it started lagging, thinking about what it wants to do.
3. I'm okay with using the 60hz but budget devices are using 90-120 fine, whatever.
Cameras and tech are overall serviceable, I'm still keeping it for a backup. But i cannot deal with the bad battery not being able to constantly charge it.
I'm replacing the phone with the poco x6 pro, on Amazon right now for $295, it blows this phone out of the water as ir stands currently.
Wait until your WiFi just stops working.
60hz saves battery life. Why would anyone need 120hz on a phone?
I have the S23 ultra and pixel 6a. One thing about pixel that I love is this call screening. Watching this on my ultra but my sim card is in my pixel. It's hard to choose sometimes but the small size of the the pixel is refreshing and it's lightweight. Software is nice. I could really just do with the pixel phone and my Samsung tab S9🤷🏽
Honestly you can't tell between 60hz with no animation and 120hz. I have a surface dou 1 and pixel fold and don't notice a different
i got this one for myself but the display was not good at all. it had very bad rainbowing efects on it and the colors looked like it was in night mode all the time. i sent it in for a resplacement display and int was a little better after that but i still could not get used to it. it was indeed fast but the display is what you look at all the time and it wasn't good enough for me, my 5 years old budget chinese phone had a much better ips screen. a good ips screen is just awsome, i don't know why we all got so obsessed with amoled.
in the end i gifted it to my sister and got a second hand note 20 ultra and now we are both very happy with what we got. i wish i still got some ui updates though..
Great review. Every once a while a great value product makes an appearance. This is one of them. I still use a Pixel 5 however I got my wife the 6a a year or so ago and it is everything you said. I would easily get myself one if I need a new phone in 2024.
It's all good...but the heating issue is a big pain in the ass ! Please tell me how to solve this. I'm on VanillaIceCream
Thanks!
The famous phone with a dodgy fingerprint reader and still no facial unlock in 2024, I typed my 4 digit unlock code so many times on this damn phone like a caveman, I'm not missing it one bit. (using a 13T these days)
Google store dropped the price in October 2022 to $300. I purchased it a week later
What about Pixel 7a with 90 HZ refresh rate?
I'll tell you one thing. I got three of these phones. And I can't complain. They the best quality performance price. You can't go wrong on this. You just can't simple. It's a simple phone but it got good qualities. I like it. I bought my mother one my cousin, my grandmother. Everybody in my family got one. You know they did a really really good job on this phone, especially in Japan, Japan. This phone in Japan was the number one phone. Can you believe that guys in Japan? Wow!
If only they keep using Snapdragon for the 'a' lineup
I have a pixel 6a right now running GrapheneOS... It's still a fantastic smartphone! Even with Android 14 it is superior to most chinese smartphones
Loved my Pixel 6a! It was light and small which didnt help coz I'm such a klutz that I broke its screen. Twice! 😭😂
I agree 6A is legendary for its value how well it was put together it was a badass phone, its still a dang good phone for the price can't be beat even still by all the Samsung mid-rangers A55 or any A series she's a tough chick.
I just want to say that I finally bought a Pixel 6A and I can only confirm what a fantastic phone it is. For now I enjoy this phone, I hope that in the future Google will make a worthy heir to this phone
You Nailed it dude
6a was good for its time. Maybe a better option for Western markets but eastern markets have more and better options. Especially when compared to the launch price. When you have to compare new phones with brand warranty to renewed phones, you're really stretching it to support your argument.
I have this phone and love it does everything you need in midrange phone but I'm getting the 8 pro with the buds or watch ⌚
Pixel 4a is still the greatest for me, but nonetheless this is an excellent phone. The value is insane, when 9a comes then that's the time I'll upgrade hehehe
100%! Yet another area Google has lost their way. Looking at the Pixel 8 vs. what the Pixel 8a is rumored to be. So confusing! In some ways the P8a looks to be an UPGRADE over the P8. The PXa is suppose to be the bare essentials of the PX -- a "just what you need" device for a phenomenon price! Not anymore. The lines are so muddy I simply don't understand the point of the 'a' series.
Yeah, Google took it in a very strange direction, indeed!
personally I don't really care about AI at all so no AI support is fine by me!
Great review. Keeping it real.
Thanks for watching!
Google 6a is a brick. Most worthless phone I've ever had, total crap. Absolutely nothing works correctly due to the one-hand feature bugs that are impossible to get rid of.
Pixel 6a hardware is not reliable/durable. Screen, modem, finger print are trash 👎 Pixels are overrated just for cameras.
And I bet you've never used one.😂
@@Gary0557
Another Google "shareholder" has already come out to defend the indefensible.
@@3lectronic0 and again: I bet you’ve never used one before 🤣🤣🤣
@@Angelo930 Again, Pixel made by Samsung 6/7/8 are trash, period.
👍
Shut up 😤
What?
Paid $100 for my 6a on Ebay in mint condition. Use it every day all day for work, personal and fantastic camera. Works better than ever. Retired my Samsung flagship to get back to google OS. Never looking back. Maybe pick up a Pixel 8 used as "upgrade", but even that is not necessary. Photo crap on my friend's s23 Ultra with the oversaturation and horrible portrait mode pics.
