My wife and I retired, moved out of the city and back to our old hometown. We bought a 1500 square foot home in the suburbs. We wanted to add on to the house and of course you need a licensed contractor to draw up a plan and do all the work inside the city Well, we got around that. An old friend of mine was a licensed contractor. However, he could no longer do construction due to a broken back. He agreed to draw out a plan and supervise myself, younger, stronger brother and my wife while we did all the work. We paid the contractor very little. As it turns out he was also helping people do similar projects. We took an already 500 square foot covered and roofed patio and turned it into a rec. room. I would never have had the courage to take on that project if it wasn't for watching your channel. Thank you for sharing your know how. I also think of your family as friends.

Mick's channel "Betting On Alaska" is great! I was watching and didn't even know he was your son at first. The TH-cam algorithm had recommended it. So I was watching and enjoying. He was talking about what he was eating, as his money was tight. I was thinking poor fellow, wow he is hardcore...I started checking the description and said...Oh that's where he gets that never give up, press on attitude...lol...mom and dad schooled him up right! I'm an old dinosaur (almost 65), I love seeing young folks with guts, and a dream! GO MICK!!!!
My parents had a cabin on Little Lake Harbor for 30 yrs that burnt in the 2012 Duck Lake Fire. They owned 40 acres on the Two Heart but eventually sold them off. I understand your love of the UP and I’m so enjoying watching both of your TH-cam channels. I picture the roads you are using and towns you are using - it is wonderful!
I’m currently 64 and will be retiring next year in August. We recently purchased 82 acres in Tennessee. I’m going to be selling our current house and preparing to build an off grid 2 bedroom cabin and going back to a simple life. Love your videos and have given me some great ideas.

It must be difficult for you with all your subscribers to respond to thousands of comments but I think you should send one giant heart response to everybody who lovingly sends you a comment. I’m a senior woman who has been a self taught builder small things like gardening raised beds, and a small bridge over several big tree roots, I’ve been teaching my grandchildren how to do things they are both girls they love lesson’s helping each in their own ways it’s always great to teach and learn ❤
We love watching your channel. When covid hit we had a friend who had property in a small town in Tennessee off-grid. We felt it was safer to have a hideout! Literally. We took all the money that we had and built a thousand square foot from the ground up on our own, My son and a couple friends. Solar panels ramp pump from the creek and it came out adorable! Enjoyed your talk! You mentioned a forest fire in Duluth. I believe the forest fire that could have chased residents out of the city might have been the October 1918 fire. That fire was huge and destroyed the towns of Cloquet, Moose Lake, and Kettle River, killing hundreds of people. It also burned parts of the outlying areas of Duluth, but didn't reach the downtown built up area.

It was great to sit down with you and chat. You are entertaining for sure. Was it a little long? Yeah, but you mentioned this might be the only one so I was happy to sit here. I thought there was some dead vid at a couple of places, but it might have been you studying the comments. There are loads of great camping, off grid, bushcaft(not so much anymore). J & N have great butts and they work that but they are hard working. Can't knock that. T & A- just building a house. Ambition strikes. There's a ton of them, but you and your wife are down to earth and I was born in Alaska and Danish so....

Thanks, Dave. From my perspective, routine content, as in getting to relax and watch a TH-cam show at the same time every week is what keeps me hooked. It's not always about the content quality, but the excitement that I get to lay down in bed on Sunday nights with my wife and watch Brooke, you, and Mick before bed. It's the same with other content creators, whether what they have that week is interesting or not.
I love the regular videos format... the editing and voice over and music... it's calming. When regular life gets overwhelming, your videos bring me back down to earth... to a more simpler life.

You inspired my wife and I to go completely off grid right now we live in a 16 x 12 cabin running off a a generator and a small solar set up. Building a log home around 850 ft.² in the spring. All your videos in building has taught me so much I’m a carpenter by trade but I’ve never worked with logs and such until this year. Thanks so much for all your stories and wisdom. Adore your channel. Wish I had a man in my life with the same desire as me. I am 65 and still desire a tiny home or whatever but the videos I watch with you and the woman building. It really takes two! Keep your videos showing others what can be accomplished!
Watching after the stream here, and one of my fav channels is victory outdoor services a concrete contractor. I say this only bc of your comment of no one cares. There are several other channels as well. I think the sad thing that many hard working people like yourself do not understand is just the sheer number of people who have extreme emptiness in their life and have many hours a day to sit around and watch youtube. How else could there be endless videos of normal everyday work on here, like grass cutting, tree trimming, pressure washing, car cleaning and so on. Another channel I really like is outdoors with the Morgans. And its basically just a guy in PA living his life with a lot of outdoor videos.
Come and see the East coast of Canada! Very different than the west. Love your videos and your way of life. I watch Brooke and Micks too. Looking forward to watching you completing some of your projects.

Dave, I was hooked when I saw you two on Alone saying grace over you food (great to see on TV these days)... then I saw your channel. You told some stories. Your voice has a calm, down-to-earth tone that lends well to storytelling. If you have more old stories to narrate, definitely get them going!

But hey! You inspired my wife and I to go completely off grid right now we live in a 16 x 12 cabin running off a a generator and a small solar set up. Building a log home around 850 ft.² in the spring. All your videos in building has taught me so much I’m a carpenter by trade but I’ve never worked with logs and such until this year. Thanks so much for all your stories and wisdom. Hope to see you lots more in the future.
PS 90% of us are not a fan of our current government…. 👎🏻Hence why we moved remote and are living off grid.. 👍🏼

Watching after the stream here, and one of my fav channels is victory outdoor services a concrete contractor. I say this only bc of your comment of no one cares. There are several other channels as well. I think the sad thing that many hard working people like yourself do not understand is just the sheer number of people who have extreme emptiness in their life and have many hours a day to sit around and watch youtube. How else could there be endless videos of normal everyday work on here, like grass cutting, tree trimming, pressure washing, car cleaning and so on. Another channel I really like is outdoors with the Morgans. And its basically just a guy in PA living his life with a lot of outdoor videos.
