As a Canadian, I was shocked at the clothes he was wearing. This is not meant for the climate you are in. Even at -40C you can feel warm if you dress and layer properly. Those gloves were totally inadequate. Get mittens that are filled with down and wear thinner gloves like the ones you had underneath. Get a ski mask, neck gator, a good hat with fur or shearling/wool on the inside. Get a proper down-filled winter parka with many different layers underneath. Wear down filled snow pants and make sure your boots are made for the cold. Wear wool close to the body and synthetics on the outside.
People don’t realize how expensive it is to live in a cold climate. The clothes alone will cost thousands of dollars for high quality garments.
    Nice video Btw!

As a Canadian, the lessons learned in the winter are : Make sure you provide extra protection for all your extremities (fingers, toes, nose, ears, cheekbones ; cover your head and forehead; dress in layers ; wool should never be worn in the outside layers (the guy's gloves are a joke) ; be mindful of how your garments and boots are stacked, so they don't let in cold air or snow ; make sure you can easily open the top of your coat while fully-gloved, because you can actually start to feel very hot under good quality garments, especially if you're active ; don't swallow your cold spit or snot, as you'll quickly get a cold ; hydrate ; keep moving ; make sure you have ergonomic gloves under mitts that are easy to pull off and put on, as you'll need to handle some things with your fingers ; don't drink alcohol, it's a vaso-dilatator and robs your body of heat while it gives you the illusion you are warm ; be careful of snow blindness and wear plastic sunshades if you intend so spend lots of time in snow fields ; get back into shelter well before sundown ; don't walk on ice in the early spring ; be weary of fluffy snow, as it can hide rough terrain ; blue skies mean cold day ; take blizzards seriously ; don't stick your tongue to metal items ;-)

Sure, there is beauty in it, but to be stuck indoors and to only last outside for 15 min at a time would make me very depressed. Hot water doesn't freeze when you throw it in the air when it's this cold. The water doesn't freeze. It just makes a steam cloud that people think looks like ice for some reason. Ice isn't a cloud. Any liquid water gives off tons of steam at those low temperatures. I walked to the shore of Lake Huron once while it was -40 out but the water was still liquid, so there were huge clouds of steam pouring off of the water. It looked like the entire lake was boiling as far as the eye could see. I've never seen anything so amazing in my life. Unfortunately it was 2004, so no smart phones or digital cameras. Cameras existed, but they were like $1000 to start.
