I was contemplating a fictional single-line modern branch with small DMU/EMU trains and short freights/scrap trains along bridges and viaducts and having a street scene with light rail underneath. exellent layout kato track is very reliable and easy to join and take apart those kato locos are great value for the money great update and video definatly not to long thanks for sharing
Love N gauge, so much in small space, only downside is the n gauge figures, can hardly see them ,excellent layout ,Looking forward to it being finished
Nice work. N Gauge certainly lets you jam in a lot to look at in a small space. One day I'll finish my own N Gauge layout whick is much the same size as yours. I love my N gague layout ... Ive added an extention .. the town had a metor strike .. a while ago , and its now a climers paradise and disco ... Kato stuff is awsome .. i have my little kato shuter going around .... need to get more !!!
Those concrete walls look pretty effective. It's shaping up to be a great little layout. Personally, N is a bit small for my old eyes, here in Australia though you can get very cheap US outline HO locos and rolling stock which is great for a budget layout. Those little Kato locos do look fantastic for the price though.
I am a big fan of the Kato track. I use it for 009 too. I know the sleepers are wrong for 009 but I'm not bothered about that. The track gives me easy to control electric points and as you say it doesn't take long to put together a layout. In a previous video you did an n gauge layout in a small set of IKEA drawers. At the time I said I would like to do the same in 009. I've now acquired three if the units and will be starting my project in a few weeks time. Thanks as always for the great videos and ideas
Lots of options …. Ability to do a quick change is a total winner. The exhibition should be a great opportunity to display your innovation in keeping the audience interested in watching the trains run. 👍🏾
I've been making up toy soldier sets to give away to less well off folks, had thought train sets were too expensive, will look for some of that Kato stuff. For buildings I can give them some Builteze card kits (so they get to make something as an 'investment' in the model to get them hooked). Thanks.
I'm just designing my first modest KATO based layout - won't be much bigger than the one you show - but it's the cost of the several points I need that are making this project a long haul!!! At the moment I can only afford to buy one set of points a month! 😆 So I envy your ability to be working on sevral projects at the same time. Very enjoyable video, thank you.
You could just use the bachmann trolley auto reverseing track it looks a bit different from the Kati track but if it doesn’t need to connect to it after ballast it should look decently the same or have it look different because it’s like a tram line.
The whole thing looks brilliant, even though it's not finished yet. I had one years ago using Fleishmann track (very similar but not sure if they're compatible) and it ran like a dream. Hope you can get it done for the show. Cheers
I've been dipping my toes back into N gauge a bit as I bought this Graham farish set from a charity shop for £30 and been scopeing around ebay for wagons to win cheaply (at £2 each! The proper price for me) so I'm just looking for another cheap little shunter to go with the saddle tank I got in the set. I see Lima n gauge is quite cheap with the being £30 each or less
Translated in Continental, it is 1219,2 mm x 482,6 mm in size. Roughly a little bit larger than two A2 size sheets put side by side by their smallest side. Anyway, it's a great idea. I have roughly the same kind for the layout I will do this summer.

Very nice idea. I wish we had more exhibitions of portable layouts here in the U.S., like you have in the U.K. The vast majority of space at shows are taken by businesses and individuals selling both new and used items. I couldn't tell, what type of couplers are you using?
i have modelled japanese outline railways using both tomix set track and peco set track .the new version chassis in these little 0.4.0s are superb .the old ones were not great but at 28quid the new chassis is coreless has a flywheel and run really smooth.
japanese stuff is not cheap especially buildings by kato tomix or tomytec so dont expect to find them this cheap all the time .also japanese n gauge is 1:150 where as uk is 1:148 so they do match up .usa is 1:160 i believe .kato tomix tomytec and modemo make some excellent locos if you like japanese outline trains.
Personally, I wish I had started in N gauge. Very little initial cost difference, and so much more space.

Yes , in the end I bit the bullet and bought some new points, I did manage to get one second hand as well which helped.

N gauge is a thing that I'd love to get into as an everyday layout, im just struggling to find an affordable way in to get started.
This is probably the cheapest way. Peco track is also excellent and cheaper 2nd hand

You can use Fleischmann track with Kato, just need to use a connection done with Fleischmann's fishplates to the Kato track, and it's done.

all my japanese n gauge are made from good quality black 5mm foam core .i have been building these for around 6 years.

What about N gauge Track but everything else including Loco bodies 00 Gauge. Best of both worlds?
That's 009. The buildings etc are then much bigger so you lose the advantages of needing less space

Sorry , I almost never draw a track plan, I just work it out by trial and error. It should be possible to work it out from the videos

I buy the buildings from Gaugemaster/ kestrel which are very cheap, as I'm freelance the difference in scale does not concern me
