While i know there's a chance that you probably also doing it but, here's a tip.simce their weaknea is on their armor, then get a province that have blacksmith in the province, upgrade it to master armourer, then build an encampment, upgrade it to armoury. This way the unit recruited in the province will have an exceptional armour. Then build the building requirement for naginata warriors monks. And There you go, you be able to recruit a naginata warriors monks that have more resistance from arrow.
@@TheVikingGeneral this much armor upgrades will make them go to 10 armour i think which is higher then even baseline naginata samurai (9) so if you do that you can use them as a main line unit
They will still be vunrealbe to enemy archers with high accuracy and high reload skill and good peirce armour like bow monks and like all meele infantry they are vulnerable to matchlocks cause they lack the speed of cav
I definitely like this guy because it seems like these guys are almost unstoppable when they are up against you that yeah really the only hope is to kill them with arrows it's pretty much the main reason to bring arrows into a fight since they are relatively super effective because you cannot engage these guys in melee or they will always win like you say Fun to use a nightmare to go up against
It depends on the role and the budget I set for the army. But mostly I generally have the main line made up from either yari ashigaru, katana samurai or naginata samurai.
Honestly... 2 Yari ashigarus in spaghetti wall breaks the enemy charge and then you can rush in with monks, nodachi or whatever+ Yari ash can soak some arrows aswell since they are just meatshields mid to late game
Yari Ashigaru for early to mid game. Laterly, change them into Naginata Samurai for mid to late game. They work so well for both defensive and balanced army compositions.
@@TheVikingGeneral It's extremely viable. But also very micro intensive. Park yari infantry right behind your matchlock line. As melee units close the gap, order your yaris to countercharge before your matchlocks get involved. Only one or 2 units of fast cav is needed to hone in and kill any annoying bow units your opponent brings.
@@cole8834 not sure if you have this issue, but I've noticed that the attack move for matchlocks is often bugged, and they won't fire even if all the enemy is in range and charging towards them.
@@MrHanderson91 check for small hills lol. Guns fire in a straight line. If a small hill fully blocks a charging unit 50 yards away, they just can't shoot. If your matchlocks are still not firing, it may be because they're in fire-by-rank? Fire-by-rank for some reason makes the matchlocks wait for an extended initial period before firing.
I didn't have the time to cover them unfortunately, since they also have different requirements. In short, I don't think they're worth the hassle. They require the proving grounds (bonus charge), which isn't a very useful building in my opinion. They also have a smaller unit size, which means that even though they have better base stats, they will still lose to a normal naginata warrior monk. Their second wind ability is nice though, so maybe in the late game you might throw in 1 or 2 as support. But at that point you shouldn't really need them anyway.
@@j3r3myyyyy I love doing Uesugi monks only campaigns. The nagi monks make a good enough infantry that they're spammable, but Viking is right, I definitely have a hard time fending off cavalry.
The monks are the expert fighters who turn the tide of battle in any shogun 2 army

Yup, giving this unit extra armour will certainly help with their survivability!

Will u do different tactics? Like pike & shot
I've looked into pike and shot, but it's not really that viable in shogun 2, at least not in vanilla.

How to make them max experienced rank?
Do I need to build legendary sojutshu school?
Nice unit to use with Uesugi
If you can ever fucking afford them
Yeah, they have a hefty price tag.
I had a full doomstack of 15 Naginata Monks, 4 Bow Monks and a General back then. Safe to say it's OP
