Thank you Malcolm. Glad you enjoyed it. Yes, always great to see new/reopened stations. Regarding the underpass, I think it could do with some lighting as it is gloomy, but with regard to the graffitti (which I personally don't) as this is Bristol, as soon as it is removed, it would re-appear again overnight. It had been re-surfaced on the floor of it though. Take care, Paul
Thank you Michael. It wasn't ideal having two Railway Series videos back to back, as not everyone watches my channel for railway things, but I wanted to get the video out as close to the reopening of the station as possible. Really great to see though. Take care, Paul
Thank you David - great to hear from you. Yes, it is always heartening to see new stations opening. Lots supporting this new one - I think people do use the trains in and around Bristol, so I think it will be a success. Take care, Paul
Thanks David - yes, I can imagine that would have been difficult with Concorde Way closed for some considerable time - glad it has reopened now for use again. Take care, Paul
Thank you Ron. Yes, it wasn't too bad, as I got there later after the official opening - I couldn't have caught an earlier train, as the earliest doesn't leave to about 8am from the railway station nearest to where I live on Saturdays - I think the first train to this new station from Temple Meads got there about 7.15am. Having said that, there were quite a few TH-camrs there, a couple of whom I recognised. There was a good atmosphere too, which helps a lot, and also a lot of local residents walking over to look at their new station. Thanks Ron, Take care, Paul
Yes I think the bulk of the enthusiasts were on the very first train to here from Temple Meads. As it was a Saturday, I couldn't get to Bristol early enough to have been on it, but that was probably a good thing! Cheers, Paul
That was brilliant Paul. Thankyou. So nice to see some progress on the railway system down south. I used to go up and down that line so much and always thought there was something missing. Bristol is a very green city and I hope the line to Portishead will eventually open too for passengers. Such a boon for commuters and just what railways are meant for. I now live in the area of the controversial HS2 and although I wasn’t sure about it at first, after listening to some educated railway authorities (Green Signals especially) I can see what absolute madness it was to stop it north of Birmingham. The line it is to feed into is so congested already with both freight and passenger services. I saw three freight trains at Stafford within a very short time on Saturday. The new HS2 trains don’t tilt as their line had no serious curves unlike the bendy. West Coast mainline route used by Pendolinos so they won’t be able to go at a high speed and there is a two rail section for a part of the line. Wonder what will happen next. ???
Thank you Marilyn. I don't usually cover new station openings on their very first day, but I was free that morning, and it was nice weather, so , I thought, well why not? It was a great atmosphere and always good to see new reopenings. I do hope that they press on now with the Portishead Line - so much needed. I will be filming there later this coming week. They really need to press on with the electrification from Parkway to Temple Meads too - seems mad that Bristol is not electrified yet, but it's smaller satellite station at Parkway (which is in a different county!) is. I have some concerns about the execution of HS2 regarding the contractors and security used, finance, and wildlife devastation, but the principle and concept of it is sound. It seems to me it will now be little used as it will be ending some distance from the heart of London at Old Oak Common. Improving our core rail infrastructure is essential in improving and maintaining an economy. Thanks for a great comment. Take care, Paul
Such a fantastic video. Many thanks for filming this. I live in Bristol and I kept hearing about the Metrowest rail with new stations opening. So great to see Ashley Down railway station now reopened, they have done a great job. Hopefully, we will see sometime in not too distant future, the Portishead branch line reopening. Lots of delays as usual. Also now a Labour government has slowed things up. Fingers crossed they do get on and reopen this much needed railway. Thanks again and for giving us some history in to railway lines in and around Bristol.
@HarrisonAJ1944 you are most welcome! Yes, it is always heartening to see stations reopening - and hopefully there will be many more to come. Thank you for watching and commenting. Cheers, Paul
Hi Paul, Well done for getting there on the first operational day. It didn't look too busy but it looks a useful addition for the Bristolians. I'm sure it will get used if the frequency and timings are good. Its not often we see new station openings or perhaps this might be considered a reopening. Many thanks for taking us there All the best!!
Thank you David, Yes, I think it will be one train an hour initially, then increasing to two an hour when the other two (possibly three) stations (re)open. I think they have early morning and quite late services as well as some useful through trains on Sundays. Always good to see stations reopening again. I think the Metro West project is great, but like all these things, it seems to be taking too long! Hope you have a great week! Take care, Paul
It’s always so pleasing to see a new railway station open & I’m glad you were able to visit there on the actual Opening Day. I always comment that it is so utilitarian but I do understand the reasoning behind it- it’s just I do find it depressing & would avoid it if I lived there. In this day and age they have to think of vandalism not to mention the financial constraints. On a lighter note- do keep the ticket! In 50 years time it may be worth something perhaps. 🙂
Thank you Diana! Yes, that's true - vandalism is a major concern, and it looks like the powers that be have just come to accept the graffitti now - although the 'floor' of the underpass has been resurfaced, they had not repainted over the brickwork, knowing all to well it would be sprayed over again! I have started to keep some railway tickets - I will pass them onto my daughter for posterity. Take care, Paul
Thank you! Thanks for subscribing too. Yes, there were lots of TH-camrs there when I filmed this last Saturday - I recognised a couple of them. Always good to see railway stations opening or reopening - this is the third one I have covered since I started my channel. Hopefully more stations to follow.
It's great to see the commitment to rail travel with the opening of a station.
Thank you Faith - yes, great to see another station opening.
Take care,
Paul
Always good to see new station openings/reopenings. The foot underpass needs sprucing up a bit! Thank you.
Thank you Malcolm.
Glad you enjoyed it.

My feed has been full of people covering this new station over the last few days 😁Always great to see new stations opening!
Yes! There were loads of other TH-camrs there Jesse - I recognised a couple of them.
Such good news that there is a new station here.
Take care,
Paul
Hello Paul.Greetings from Poland
That was a superb video . How loively to see a new station being opened.
Thank you Michael.
It wasn't ideal having two Railway Series videos back to back, as not everyone watches my channel for railway things, but I wanted to get the video out as close to the reopening of the station as possible.
Really great to see though.

Hi Paul. Good to see new stations opening, it has got to be good for the environment, to encourage more public transport use. Great video 👍📷
Thank you David - great to hear from you.

Cheers Paul nice video 😊
Thank you Lee!
Glad you enjoyed it.

Interesting vlog Paul, Thankyou. Hoping to visit the station soon as I’ve been watching all the construction work.
I am pleased Ashley Down station is open and even more pleased that I can cycle the Concorde Way is open again as the diversion was a pain.
Thanks David - yes, I can imagine that would have been difficult with Concorde Way closed for some considerable time - glad it has reopened now for use again.
Take care,
Paul
That was brave Paul, going to a station on its opening day with the potential of lots of people. Good report though, thank you. Ron
Thank you Ron.

Thanks for that video Paul. You obviously avoided the crush of nerd-dom of the previous day!
