Thank you Louise! Glad you enjoyed this rather special place, and the sights and sounds from it too. I did enjoy my trip back here again. Take care, Paul
Thank you Ron. Yes, it really is a lovely spot here and a firm family favourite - but I couldn't afford to live here! However, I did, up until fairly recently, live in another village nearby, which I hope to bring out as a subject of a seperate video on my channel soon. Hope you are having a good week. Take care, Paul
What a tranquil haven. I wondered what the 'popping' sound was at first, until you enlightened me (it sounded like a distant shoot). Such an unusual spot for a paint-testing facility and the hazardous consequences, which can be found online under 'AzkoNobel Newton Ferrers'. I'm not surprised the facility is no longer in use, by the looks of things. Thank's for a very enjoyable video - and no paint smells!
Thank you Malcolm. Yes, there was a shoot going on as well as several oar persons out rowing on the river, so a combination of gun shot, oars hitting the water, oh and wood sawing too. Glad you enjoyed it. Take care, Paul
Yes, the reverse TARDIS; it really is tiny inside that Co-Op. If there is another customer in there when you shop in it, it is heaving!! Newton Ferrers is a real favourite of both mine and family too. Always great to hear from you Jesse. Take care, Paul
Yes, I know Hooe well. Been there a few times. I have another video coming up from the South Hams showing where I once lived, after I moved from Plymouth (I lived in Mainstone) - its not a 'posh' one like this one though, although it is close to an amazing beach. Cheers, Paul
Hi Paul beautiful part of Devon.Been to ship in Noss Mayo a few times it's a hidden gem.Great food l believe it's been taken over by pub chain now.I think everyone goes to the Swan pub now.l know it well thanks for posting 😊😊
Thank you Lee. Yes, you are right about Noss Mayo being a hidden gem - gets less visitors than Newton Ferrers, I think. I remember watching an episode of The Coroner with Claire Goose being filmed at The Ship a few years ago. That was a super little series which really highlighted the very best of The South Hams. I think I too prefer The Swan though. Take care, Paul
An absolutely beautiful area. It seems that there are stunning picture opportunities around every corner. The tranquility is equally impressive. Very lovely walk Paul. Thank you.👍
A beautiful part of the country. Have spent several enjoyable walking breaks in the Dartmouth and Kingsweir areas but don't recall visiting the two destinations you were walking around 🤔
Thank you! Yes, this particular village in the South Hams is a little further to the west than the places that you mentioned. The South Hams is quite a large area - everywhere from Plymouth to Torquay that's south of the A38 - loads to explore, if you don't mind the very narrow lanes! Newton Ferrers is a family favourite place. I will be highlighting another South Hams village soon - a lesser known one than this one, but one in which I used to live, up until fairly recently. It has a beautiful beach too. Should be arriving in just over a week or so. Take care, Paul
A lovely place we really enjoyed watching this video Paul, youve given so many ideas of where to visit, and we intend to make the most of some of the places you've shown to us thanks again regards Gary and Julie.
Thank you Gary & Julie! Glad you enjoyed the little tour here around Newton Ferrers - it remains a firm family favourite place to visit. There will be another Devon video soon - although it is a Railway Series one, it also highlights what I consider to be another less well known part of the South Hams which is, I think, well worth exploring - and that's The Avon Valley. The video, which may arrive late tonight, will be called 'The Primrose Line' (it is as lovely as it sounds, I feel). Take care, Paul
Hello Paul. Greetings from Poland This video was well worth waiting for. What a beautiful area. The waterside really is a sailing paradise and the views are spectacular. I loved the walk through the wood at the end of the video. I feel the problem for locals is the cost of living in these are. Baring House is an obvious example. Money talks in areas like this as you intimated in your commentary
Thank you Michael! Yes, this village is one that I have returned to many times with family - it is a really lovely place. However, a few years ago, I lived in another South Hams village, which I really have happy memories of, and I hope to bring a video about that on my channel soon. It isn't so grand, but it has lots of rustic charm - it also has a little known stunning beach. Take care, Paul
Oh, yes, the light there changes frequently and it never looks the same twice. I prefer it at high tide though. Noss Mayo is a lovely place to stay. Take care, Paul
Interesting detail - the sounds and echo. Oh I like the steps story as a remedy to get fit. S many places - especially seasonal tourist places adjust their opening times don't they? Understandable. The various stairs down to the river level do look somewhat unstable here and there so your warning is quite appropriate. - they must be quite old too ( see @16:56). What an interesting facts Paul. As always your videos are very informative and interesting. Newton looks lovely. Thanks for the walk and sharing of all that interesting information. 👌🇳🇱🙋♀🥝
Thank you Anita! Yes, Newton Ferrers is really nice and it gets a lot less tourists than, say, Salcombe or Torquay. I know which I prefer! Seaweed can be very slippery particularly on boat slips(!). Thanks so much and for your comments about the audio on this - as is often the case with my videos, the soundtrack (which I edited entirely seperately first, then stuck it all together - I always prioritise sound over visuals) took longer to edit than the visuals. Take care, Paul
Thank you Jonathan. Yes, I like Helford too (although it is in Cornwall, of course) on The Lizard and know is well as I have a friend who lives near Gweek. I will be highlighting another South Hams video soon - not as posh as this one - more homely, although it does have a stunning beach. It is where I used to live up until fairly recently. Take care, Paul
Thank you Darren! I really enjoyed returning here - it was a lovely walk and I think the conditions (high tide, sunshine, quiet day) were perfect - unusual for things like that to co-incide. Take care, Paul
I have heard of Newton Ferrers but not Noss Mayo! They are in a beautiful area! Looked like the land underfoot was extremely slippery- not good for walking in the woods. I did look up the paint firm & they got fined £ 650,000 for contaminating the River Yealm - awful - testing out paints that for one thing stopped barnacles etc adhering to the undersides of boats. They must have been well aware it would be harmful to other river species- but still went ahead. The report was dated Jan.23 so quite recent. Thanks Paul!
Thank you Diana. I hadn't seen that - just as well the site closed then! Court Wood, from my local knowledge, is usually drier after rain than the woods nearest to Noss Mayo, as proved to be the case in this instance. The South Hams are indeed gorgeous, and I feel very fortunate to have once lived there. I will be bringing a couple more videos from the South Hams area on the channel soon. Thanks again, Take care, Paul
So lovely to see you again today. We're having an evening of watching everyone we met today. Love this video. We were talking today about possibly visiting either Devon or Cornwall in the spring. Wow it's beautiful. You have such a lovely voice! You're so calming. Looks like you need a fair few quid to live there though. Great tour. Cheers 🍻
Thank you Rach & Wills! Glad you enjoyed the little wander here in Devon. Yes, it was fab meeting you both again too - I can't believe that it has been nearly two years since Shrewsbury. Yep, Newton Ferrers is very much on the pricey side, although I did nearly buy a house (which needed some work on it) in a lot less posh but (I think) equally lovely village in the South Hams a few years ago - I did a video about that called 'I used to live here' which went out recently too. It has a tremedous beach. Devon & Cornwall is quite a large and really lovely area, and this time of the year and (early to mid) spring is really the best time to visit it - as we discussed, avoid the summer months here at all costs! Cheers! Paul
Hi Paul, what a lovely place that was. I remember the branch line you filmed nearby. The acoustics were really amazing. We often hear dogs barking and we don't get an echo as such more a wave of barks from the others dogs all reporting in!! Doesn't look like a good place to be doing paint testing, I seem to recall from work that lead was banned and finding suitable alternatives is not easy. Look forward to seeing more from Devon. All the best!!
Thank you David - glad you enjoyed the wander here. It really is a lovely place, and, as you say, has amazing acoustics. Yes, as Diana on here replies, the paint company were later prosecuted for polluting the River Yealm. Glad that it has now ceased testing! Take care, Paul
Lovely .i seem to remember that paint factory had a big involvement in producing camouflage paints .Must visit that area again and take the kayak out .
Thanks Shaun. Yes, that vaguely rings a bell with me too - bound to be a military connection somewhere as Newton Ferrers isn't too far from Plymouth. Cheers, Paul
This is a lovely channel, I can tell immediately, instant follow! It's a pleasure to meet, sir. I briefly enjoyed living in Wrangaton, South Brent, just up the moors, close to the golf course. I miss the Westcountry, so from now on I'll live vicariously through you, cheers.
Thank you! Yes, I was at South Brent and near Wrangton very recently - my dentist is in the old goods shed by the old railway station there. In fact, I made a video shortly after making this one following course of the The Primose Railway Line from Kingsbridge finishing in South Brent. The Avon Valley, especially around Topsham Bridge and Lydia's Bridge in South Brent is simply stunning. Welcome to Westcountry Wanderings! Take care, Paul

This does look like a really beautiful and peaceful place.
