    He's done this song on the Royal Variety Show, on the Late Late Show on RTÉ in Ireland, and on Conan's show in the USA. And he rewrites it each time to tweak the references. This one, from Ruth Jones, is the original, though.

      The idea of memorizing and then rememorizing the same song is unfathomable to me. I have a hard enough time adjusting when I found out I've been getting one word wrong. Also, with all the tempo changes, it's astounding that he lands exactly where he intended.

    • @JustAnotherBuckyLover
      @JustAnotherBuckyLover ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I am that person who saved a copy of all the versions that I know of. IIRC there's the Royal Variety Show version, the Ruth Jones Show on BBC Wales, The Late Late Show on RTE, Wogan on BBC Radio and the sole US version was on Conan's show. I hope that helps!

    • @camyron

      to the above three commenters: Tim Minchin's saying that the conservative, little-britain viewer that would complain if he performed anything more racy than 3 Minutes think that Victor Borge is the peak of innovation in musical satire, and he has to pander to this demographic's beliefs to a) convince them to buy tickets to his concerts and b) not get complaints to the BBC which might prevent him getting booked in the future. He's saying that Victor's work isn't at the leading edge of musical satire anymore, which at best is a neutral statement about the progression of the industry and at worst is him saying "Borge's work is boring and prissy, he doesn't even say 'Fuck'!"

    • @DodderingOldMan
      @DodderingOldMan ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@camyron Thank you! This is how I see it. It's not exactly a slam on Borge, but yeah, it's neutral at best. And it just seems to me an odd choice to namecheck. I'm sure he could have come up with an act that genuinely does seem rather trite these days, rather than a guy like Borge who, while his comedy may not exactly be edgy, is just as enjoyable today, decades after his death, as he was at the start of his long, long career.
      Obviously that's just an opinion, but I'd say it's widely shared.
