Annie is my cousin! My Grandmother, Blanche Clapper had letters from Annie and they were lost in a homestead fire along with my mom's prized organ. They lived in a farm near Continental, Ohio. I have provided documentation of genealogy to the Garst Museum. Thank you for a well done video of Annie & the Garst, have been there several times and it continues to be updated & improved! My daughter has close physical and facial similarities to Annie and my granddaughter has a very keen shooting eye!! Thx again! Bill, Ada, oHIo.

I was born and raised in Greenville from 79-93. So much history. The Treaty of Greenville opened up the Northwest Territory. I have family out in Beamsville. The history out there goes back 250 years. The road names often reflect early landowners. Many of the same families still own the same land or live in the area. I'm deep in the hills of Tn these days. Oh yeah. My mom was born in Brock. Where Annie is buried.

She was an elegant and decent woman. That's why she is remembered. There have been many great trick shooters, but they are all long forgotten. Annie Oakley will be remembered as an American icon, and as a role model for the young, for many centuries to come.

I knew nothing about Annie Oakley, until I was looking for events this past weekend. I saw that Greenville, OH has the annual Annie Oakley festival. I did not got though. Then as I was looking up videos on TH-cam here for Greenville, OH. The videos I watched about Greenville, OH always seemed to surround Annie Oakley. If she has a statue, museum and her grave site is marked, she must be someone important. I'm a local traveler, and might be going up to Eldora Speedway this Thursday. I might stop by Greenville, OH and look around the town and museums before attending the race. I have a friend that I travel with sometimes, and he watches videos here on TH-cam. I now will be watching you, plus others about different towns, parks, museums and other things.

Years ago I did an illustration of Annie for a textbook. Researching for it, I learned how complex she was, as opposed to the character we'd all become familiar with through movies. Perhaps most surprising to me was to find that the Butlers lived here in NJ just a few miles from where I grew up. Great video!

I have an old outdoor magazine. This guy went to Annies house and interviewed her. This was after she retired. She told him a couple details about her life I never read anywhere else. I have also read that she took all of those beautiful medals and melted them down to sell the gold to donate to childrens charity. How tragic! They would be worth so much more as one of her medals. But I think she was unpretentious and this was an act to demonstrate that somehow. I also read a comment from a woman who knew her that Annie never looked you in the eye when she spoke to you. I don't know how much any of this is true.
I know like many people I love her, she was a strong but feminine woman. This guy Cashew uses the term 'prim and proper'. Yes. She was that.
Annie loved her dogs. I wish my dogs who have passed go on to be Annies dogs....until I get there. Two bird dogs who were extra good at their trade. But my labs too. Annie will welcome them all. I love admire and respect you Annie Oakley.

Thankyou for posting this video.Dave the dog is a Llewellin Setter.I don't need anymore than seeing the pictures from the side as they have a much flatter head than a standard English setter.Bird hunters all love them because they work close and have a better nose than any other dog.I had one that would start getting birdy 300 ft from the birds.lol I have 2 females right now and they make great pets as well as hunting birds.Seeing Dave holding with the apple and allowing it to be shot off his head amazes me.Dave getting run over by a car doesn't surprise me as they get so focused on bird hunting they will ignore everything around them including traffic.

Thank you for NOT allowing the rewriting of history to make Annie out to be someone who was a rebellious womans' rights activist. When you read her autobiography, unfortunately, you will find things that even this amazing museum got wrong.
One such incident is in a museum exhibit with a caption that makes it seem Annie was advocating "women first" by deliberately overlooking a prince's offered hand and reaching first for the hand of his princess. To overlook the prince first was unheard of. However, Annie writes she did this action first b/c there was a reputation with this prince that woman deliberately flirted with this prince when taking his hand while his "princess stood quietly by" and watched. Annie did not want to be characterized in the manner of this reputation and so took the princess's offered hand first. Annie's actions had nothing to do with womens' rights.
Annie's autobiography in which this event is detailed by Annie (ironically) is sold at the museum where I got my copy just yesterday. The museum, overall, has done a WONDERFUL job overall. Just a few things slipped through the cracks...according to Annie's own writings.
As to the idea of her dying from lead poisoning...you don't die from handling bullets - sounds like PC creeping its ugly head into rewriting history once again.
Yes, lead is poisonous - but you need to ingest it - and a LOT of it. It is a sad time in America (to the disgust of tyrants we are the only land with the right to protect ourselves from enemies foreign and domestic using firearms) where we have come to a place where people are unfamiliar enough with guns to know that you do not handle the lead tip of a bullet b/c you cannot possibly load it into the gun that way! You hold the brass casing of bullets when you go to use them and therefore rarely even touch the lead tip! You need to ingest the lead to be poisoned. So unless Annie decided to deliberately suck on or nibble on the end of the multitude of lead headed bullets she shot, it would be impossible for her to get lead poisoning from shooting - she was handling brass.
