- The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart is a 1960 live album by comedian Bob Newhart. Recorded at the Tidelands Club in Houston, Texas by recording engineer Bill Holford, Newhart's debut album reached #1 on the Billboard Mono Action Albums chart on August 1, 1960, and remained at the top for 14 weeks.

The best tribute he could ever have is people hearing about his sad passing, giving this a try and realising what a master he was.

Same, my dad played this for me when I was a kid in the 70s but I didn’t get it as much. Listened to it again in my 30s and realized how genius it was. Still have the album ❤

He was by far my favorite comedian. I always liked deadpan humor due to him
OMG ME TOO NEWHART WAS still on the air when i grew up in the 80's and 90's and I fell in love with his deadpan delivery. My friends had old record players so i got to hear a couple of his records. They were all into bullshit like Im An Asshole like Denis Leary but I'd take Newhart on a phone call any day of the week!
He was a comic genius that reminded everyone of someone they knew and loved. An everyman. RIP ❤

I haven't listened to this in 40 years and it is still sidesplitting. Truly classic.
Bob Newhart is the first comedian I ever remember as a kid, listened to his bits on a long distance flight over and over from Frankfurt to Chicago back in the late 80s when my mom and I had to go back and forth 3 or 4 times in one year. He seemed like the dad we all deserved, the even keeled and fair minded 50s gentleman with a loving and sympathetic heart. He will be missed
My parents had this LP. I recall listening to it early 60s. As a 9 year old kid, it made me laugh and I remember details of listening to the record even now. Bob was brilliant as a stand up.

Bob's one-sided recorded phone calls back in 1960 were hilarious back then and still hold up today. His unique humor catapulted him into the stratosphere and generously shared with all of us through his two TV shows. Bob was one of a kind. Will deeply miss him. Such a beautiful legacy and footprint this special man left.

I bought this album second hand in the early 80's when I was like 13. That and Pat Paulson 's For President. Hilarious stuff . I was an odd duck as a kid.
We loved Bob. He was a very rare individual.

I have had a lifetime of loving him. From his first sitcom that I binged in the early 90's (thank you Nick at Night), and then getting into his early comedy. He has given me so many years of comfort. He made me more comfortable with my own mental illness and attending therapy. And he has made me laugh so many times. As I sit here and listen to this genius I am sad that he is no longer here on earth but so grateful that he was here for the time he was.

One of the greatest comedy albums ever! RIP Bob.
What's interesting is how much he trusts the audience to be able to pick up what he's putting down. It's only funny if you can infer the other half of the conversation, or imagine the scene that he hints at but doesn't literally describe.

The King of Deadpan!
Fortunately comedy geniuses like Bob Newhart came in the age of recorded material. So much of him from the 60s onward is available on dvd, CD, vinyl and tape. From the Dean Martin Show to his own shows to the Tonight shows with Johnny Carson and thousands of other shows he was a guest on thru to the 2000s Bob will always be at the ready to entertain us forever.
Newhart is still one of the best comedians of all time. Perfect delivery. Kept it clean. His TV shows were also greatness.

What a comedic GENIUS!!!!!!! My parents bought it when it came out in 1960, and I remember listening to that very first Newhart album as an 8 year old; and laughing along with mom & dad...
the 60's were the golden age of recorded comedy, and Bob Newhart started it....

Given the state of education today, I'm not sure a lot of young people would get the Lincoln jokes.
He made it look so easy but if it was easy then everybody would be doing it.
Nobody really mentioned #BobNewhart's death. Sad. He was one of the main guys who taught me to create beyond the gag and the one-liner. He also taught me how to get out of any awkward or stressful moment in life. Make 'em laugh. Til they cry.

Jimmy Carr just told me this was Bob's first time doing stand up ever.
It's a great story, but I can't find anything to be able to support that. I find it hard to believe he would headline a club in Houston and record an album with Warner Brothers on his second attempt at comedy.
That's why I'm here too. What a shame it's not at all funny.

The millions of Americans who purchased this album, making it the number one album from any genre in 1960.
They found it funny because it's hilarious and subtle. It requires knowledge of history and the culture of the mid-20th Century.
Maybe it's just not for you.
