As a kid I always liked how one of the humans saw one of the child critters in trouble and helped out even saying if I remember "there ypu go little one" I haven't seen this in forever so I I missed something sorry
There are still good eco cartoons like Widget, Captain Planet, and Ferngully. There was even an old H-B animated special about extinction of a bird species. I even remember a cartoon called Smoggies that aired on HBO years ago.
I consider myself glad I have Captain Planet's entire series on DVD... though, aside from Future Shock and the 2 cameos of Velma and Shaggy, the final 2 seasons REALLY aren't good upon watching them fully. Widget sadly never even got a DVD release last time I checked
@@autumbreeze1129 I know about the Teers in the Hood episode where Mystery Incorperated without Scooby show up as background characters is one of the underrated non crossover no one talks about. But still S6 was the only time the Planeteers got a change in their looks, but it was the final season. If they ever bring back Captain Planet than his return in OK KO, it would be more parody like with Planetina in Rick and Morty. Even pop up in Family Guy or Simpsons.
For a film that basically shows the dangers Of littering as we saw that led to the tanker truck to crash That's not the only bit of human intervention that interferes with the animals Well-being that we see in the movie as we also see the dangers of what human development in the country side can do that scene where Abigail, Russell and Edgar had to go through that building site
If I had a nickel for everytime a hedgehog in an animated project is named Russel, I’d have 2 nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice, right?
Honestly, this is quite a swan song for this review series. It's a favorite of mine, actually, but yeah you make a good point: it does feel like a Don Bluth film that makes their protagonists deal with peril, hardship & drama and still give them a somewhat happy ending (albeit a bittersweet one). I would've loved to have seen that collaboration with this story, as it probably would have worked a lot better! It's an underrated film that has dramatic elements & environmental messages, though it's no Ferngully. I enjoyed the animation & the songs, and the characters really stuck with me in my childhood (especially with how much they changed from the film's beginning to the ending). However, I can understand how & why it flopped. I'm glad it's got a second wind from nostalgic folks nowadays. I'm glad you got to review this film though! Here's to whatever future videos you have on the horizon!
It flopped? First I've heard. Then again, it had already been out several years before I first saw it on VHS, so how could I have known? 🤷♀️ Back then, the concept of movies needing to succeed in theatres wasn't something my young brain could comprehend. All I knew were movies get released in theatres, then home release years later. Box office and ratings were something I didn't learn about til high school
I don't think people then made the box office as big of a deal as nowadays, we just appreciated films for what they were. I miss those simpler times, and I was a really little then.
I had this VHS as a kid. The pacing works great when you're like 5. Even then I knew it wasn't as good as stuff like NiMH or Disney. Also the preachy environmental stuff just feels like a day ending in y as a 90's kid
This was one of my favorite movies as a kid. I had always assumed that it was made by the same people who made The Secret Of NIHM or something like that. I still like this movie a lot but that may be nostalgia talking.
I wish the studio that did Tom and Jerry: The Movie and the studio that did this had switched movies so Hanna-Barbera could have worked on their own properties
My boss used to put this on a lot, when I worked at a video store. I found it to be more forgettable than preachy, honestly. It's cute with nice enough animation, but the story falls flat.
Hey Jam, I will admit I have a soft spot for this movie, when I was a kid I used to stay over at my aunt's house with my cousins and often times we watched this movie, my aunt sadly passed away last year and this movie reminds me of the times I spent with her and her daughters, but that being said I can accept this movie is not for everyone and you provided good reasons why it doesn't work but I also appreciate you tried to find positives in it despite it's flaws and if anyone does want better stories about the environment with complexity and nuance, The secret of Nimh and the Lorax 1972 are better.
The shocking thing is, This Don Bluth clone was animated by Hanna-Barbera, the same animation studio behind Scooby-Doo, Jonny Quest, Flintstones and Etc. and after this film, they would animate The Pagemaster next
This certainly was a good movie to end off this series. I actually even rewatched this movie a few months ago. It’s not a bad movie overall I don’t think. It definitely felt like a Don Bluth ripoff and it could almost be mistaken as one of his movies. It’s an easy watch at just over an hour but the story itself could’ve been handled better easily. I want to give both Ferngully movies a rewatch someday as well.
One thing i've noticed when we see the families of the main characters is that we don't see the father of Russell or Edgar Although it can easily be looked over but i Think that maybe it was intentional as male hedgehogs and moles don't usually stay with a mate that long and its the females of those two animals that look after their young
Down blue I may have heard you’re supposed to do a creepier version and maybe the land of all time or ice age that’s what I heard have the suggestion for real smart people and animals
Jambareeqi, check out my review for Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas. I’ve heard every reason why I should hate it but I actually loved it because I thought it made a great case for exploring Belle and Adam more, emphasized his need for redemption, had great songs, above average animation and a terrific villain.
Does anyone else miss eco media. Now adays, we're pretty much obsessed with nature demonization, and I feel like we need something like this more than ever.

I was surprised when I found out that this was Hanna-Barbera. It sure can pass for a well-drawn The Secret of NIMH knockoff.
I grew up with this movie . I still love it to this day
I remember this movie the ending makes me cry because it’s bittersweet Michelle lives but her parents do not

2:22 though to be fair this oddly fits as hedgehogs do have fast metabolisms
Explains Sonic’s love for chilli dogs.

Maybe if Bluth was involved with this movie it would be better. It would've also saved his reputation
Once upon a forest is a great cartoon movie and a classic
I liked this movie as a kid
Oh hey, I remember this one! I wonder if I still have the cassette for it
Maybe we'll see the orange shop open again one day
Now what, there's always puppet panic
I actually thought of a sequel to this movie if anyone is curious.
I think I vaguely remember this on cartoon Network but the nostalgia Critic review is burned into my head
rheumatism
Interestingly this film was loosely based on a book
Jambareeqi Orange was fun but heres to the future of the channel cheers 🍻
It looks funny. I’m surprised didn’t do that.
1:55 Whoa, Render Close up. That caught me by Surprise.
Well, Orange was fun while it lasted 😔
This movie gave my nightmares when I was younger
The only thing I liked about this movie was where they call the construction machines Yellow Dragons. They do look a little bit like yellow dragons.

It did flop because it came out the same summer as Jurassic Park. and when people already purchased the 1993 VHS of Pinocchio
