The mystery camera; I knew it existed but had forgotten about it. Nice camera; it looks like a mix between the x-700 and the x-300 although I've read somewhere that it's specifications are more like the x-500.
Actually, it's an X-300 with a focus confirm system and a different battery. When I needed mine repaired, the spare parts all came from an X-370, which is apparently mostly the same inside.
I just picked up one of these - absolutely pristine condition, looks like it just came out of the box and everything seems to work perfectly. It came with a 50mm 1.4 with the pin, I bought a 50 2.0 with the pin and just ordered a 1.7, too. I haven't seen the pin on any other focal lengths, would be nice to have a 28mm with it. Sorry, i was confusing the XG-M with the X-300, you're correct that this is basically an X-300 with the added focus confirmation. Further research shows I am wrong again - there other MD lenses with the extra pin, including a 28mm! (These would be the 3rd-gen MD SR lenses.) Also, the focus confirmation apparently does work with lenses without the pin, though possibly not as quickly or accurately as those with it.
Just got one, just to play around with the focus confirmation (I use otherwise a 570 or an XD7, but have also a XE and a SRT102...). Still have to clean the screen etc., and still charging some batteries to try it actually out (a label says it doesn't work with NiMH rechargeables, but let's try, otherwise I have to get some alkaline...) But I am confused: No stop-down lever? What are the lines on the mirror for, they seem to be not visible when seeing through? I guess for the focus confirm?
@@DavidHancock Thanks! I guess this is then my first SLR without, that was what confused me... Just checked my lenses from the late MD series, I got a 28/2.8, 50/2 and a 28-85/3.5-4.5 with this knob, all those have also the aperture lock at the highest value. My MD 50/3.5 Macro which is also from the late MD type doesn't have it though...
Thank you! I would say sort of yes and sort of no. Yes in that it's built like, and has the features of, an X-370/300. No in that it has focus confirmation. Ultimately it's an odd duck and feels like a testbed for new tech more than anything. I'd personally place it between the 300/370 and 500/570 in tier, though the numbering from Minolta would likely indicate they placed it above the 500/570.
Thanks for the video, I had a Minolta x700 , gutted that I sold it, often wondered about the x600
Thank you!

You should have said that at the end, David.
Dangit! That would have been a good close.

Do you know if you can see the aperture in the viewfinder like on the x-700 and x-570?
IIRC, video 2 ought to cover that.

Thank you and, IIRC, no stop-down lever. This is basically a 300/370-series camera with focus confirmation.
