Agree 100% about investing in lenses. That's why I jumped on the Olympus train a while back with an OM-2S. Super nice camera, with a full line of tiny f2 primes lenses. The aperture ring on the front and shutter speed on the lens mount also just makes sense to me. No need to move my hand too far from the focus ring.

They have better coatings than anything Leitz Leica produced at the same time. That's why they ended up working together, because Leica knew they couldn't compete with Minolta on lens coating innovations and technological advancements.

I bought a Minolta X700 to mirror what my dad had. It works so well! I love using it and am just getting back into photography after a few years away with it. I trust the camera completely and it has no issues aside from the aging light seals having gone bad. But I ordered replacements. I had to replace the focus screen as it was scratched but nothing else. It's a great camera and I love the program modes as it makes it easier for me to learn manual cameras on. Plus it's just an easy mode so I can worry about focus only lol.

Your reviews are so, so much fun to enjoy! I love the oddball humor and general quirkiness, but also kudos for depth of technical info (you somehow sneak in), and the editing and 'pace' of the video. Love the Minolta X-700 series. Minolta Rokkor-X glass is every bit as good as Canon SSC, IMO. SR-mount glass is cheap and plentiful and adapts well to MILCs, too.
I have a black X-570 and paired with the 45mm f/2 it is a fantastic grab and go kit. The X-370 is awesome, too. I would honestly recommend either one over the Pentax K1000 or Canon AE-1 to new film photographers who aren't trying to overpay for a camera.

X-700s deserve a lot of love. Minolta was the silent GOAT of the film days working with Leica for the XE/R3, XD/R4, and CLE/CL. They sort of made Sony what they are today too when they left cameras and sold all their tech to Sony in 2006...Minolta Alpha became Sony Alpha...such cool stuff.

"The world is our playground" proceeds to cite the same only locations westerners, especially americans, know and go to (with the exception of Bali, how could you forget?). Are you guys afraid to travel to countries that aren't the stereotype of western travels? It seems so, you go to the same spots all the time, it's tiring, the world is much bigger than three countries.
Also, if you ever go to Europe: Italy, France, UK and Germany aren't the 4 only countries in Europe, thank you. Grow some balls people, and grow some culture. Originality is not doing over and over again the same things some others did once that turned out to be original the first time it was done, because it's not anymore the 10,000th time.

It was my first camera as well and honestly drove me away from film. I found the amount of options to be SO frustrating because I was too stubborn to learn, and relied on auto mode.
Stopped shooting for a few years, then got into medium format and learned about proper exposure because it was all manual. Instantly felt silly for not taking the time to do that in the first place.

#minoltagang If you don't "want to be different" try the Minolta XK it's an almost perfect copy of the Nikon F2. I almost joined the Minolta gang, I'm kinda your evil wicked bastard stepbrother with a Konica FS-1 as my first small format camera. Although I'm now on with the Minolta A7. Anyway... Yes, Konica, Minolta and Konica-Minolta are some of the most underrated cameras ever made. The problem is that the professional market never adapted to Minolta... Who's the most famous person to use a Minolta? Probably Annie Leibovitz... But hey, sometimes if everyone else is a white sheep. It doesn't mean you can't be a black sheep.

The other thing you can mount a Vario Sonar on a Minolta A7 or an A9 if its firmware upgraded leading to perhaps the most advanced film SLR you can get your hands on with modern Zeiss glass. It's like a Contax without the con tax.

My first SLR camera was a Minolta XG-1. I learned to photograph with this camera, but soon I wanted Minolta's showpiece, the X-700, so that was a lot of savings at the time. How happy I was with that beautiful machine .... it is/was my first true great love. During a vacation in the US I bought a Minolta Motor Drive 1 and felt like a King!! People were stearing at me, when I took pictures. I felt like I was some kind of famous photographer :-) Well, then came the digital age and I bought a Dynax 7Xi...and sold my X-700 to my brother. Whenever I saw him walking around with that X-700, I felt certain jitters. I have now bought back my 3rd X-700. Haha, it remains my first great love.

Personally, I love Minolta cameras - probably because I learned to shoot with a Minolta rangefinder as a boy. I almost have an X-700 - I have the XG-M and some of the same lenses (including the Helios 58mm). But, my love for Minolta also covers rangefinders and point and shoot zoom cameras from the 90's - including the one I ordered today from a camera store in Europe - an "old new stock" Minolta Riva 105i. So basically, I'm getting a virgin 35mm film camera, that I will be the first owner of.

Your 1st FD lens was from a DSLR, hum? I consider this fake News. Canon EF-S Mount (APS-C) is quite different, and you can't mount FD Lenses on EF Mount either way. the pictured, old 60D from 2010 only takes EF and EF-S Lenses. What one can for real, using a (craptastic) FD to EF adapter, and because it does have a lens inside, the image quality is being worse, than via native FD Lens mount onto a Canon EF-based DSLR. It's a different Story with Mirrorless, DSLM hereby, with a quality Adapter (no internal light reflections, Pro Series K&F, Rayqual, Novoflex) and Sony E Mount, one can get decent image quality.
