I bought a Minolta X700 to mirror what my dad had. It works so well! I love using it and am just getting back into photography after a few years away with it. I have been useing the same X-700 since the 80s it just began giving me problems in 2021. So i decided to finally upgrade to another Minolta the alpha 9 so fare im loving it.
Well the thing about investing in Takumars and being an M42 collector is the pool of camera bodies with working meters is pretty lacking…remember reading a guide that said unlike most lens mounts M42 never got that “great” camera to stand above the rest. So I’m looking at getting a Minolta X-700 because it’s Aperture priority mode/meter will work with my M42 Lenses where my Nikon N65 and FE didn’t
Thank you so so much! I just found 2 minolatas x 700 with a ton of lenses at my great uncles place! I was allowed to keep them and got a book about photography in the 80s as well. Knowing nothing about photography, we'll see how far this will get me but I'm really excited after watching this! Thank you!
just found my dads old bag in his basement from like the 80’s with this camera and two other lenses, and a flash attachment, it’s a bit rusty i’m looking for a place to send to get it fully restored but can’t wait until i get it working!
Really great video, I feel like you're really starting to hit your stride. I really like your style with your videos, it breaks away from the majority of other film TH-camrs.
Love the Minolta X-700 series. Minolta Rokkor-X glass is every bit as good as Canon SSC, IMO. SR-mount glass is cheap and plentiful and adapts well to MILCs, too. I have a black X-570 and paired with the 45mm f/2 it is a fantastic grab and go kit. The X-370 is awesome, too. I would honestly recommend either one over the Pentax K1000 or Canon AE-1 to new film photographers who aren't trying to overpay for a camera.
@@BadFlashes the 370. I saw one cheap and figured I’d like to try it out. I was really impressed with how nice it was so I got the bigger brother for me, and I’ll probably give the 370 to my daughter and we’ll go shoot some rolls and develop them.
It was my first camera as well and honestly drove me away from film. I found the amount of options to be SO frustrating because I was too stubborn to learn, and relied on auto mode. Stopped shooting for a few years, then got into medium format and learned about proper exposure because it was all manual. Instantly felt silly for not taking the time to do that in the first place. I wish I had realized how versatile/capable the x700 was while I owned it.
Brooooooo, I have a SRT303b and I love it (even got an adapter to use my M42 lenses on it) but the battery for the poop exposure system doesn't exist anymore. Is it still possible to find the batteries for this one?
I just bought the X700 with silver metal top. I had never seen one like this before, didn't even know they were ever made. Does anyone have any information on these? I believe they might be rare.
How much would you pay for a minolta 700x nowadays? I found an offer that sells one with a 1:2,8 sigma makro lense (not quite sure if the name is the same in english) for 80€ (84$). Do you think that's worth the price?
hi tommie here! i had a minolta x-700 in high school photography class you had tosign it out for the yr $ 10 but i had fun with it but sold it want to bu another one ebay or amazon soon i like film better then digital tomme
My X-700 is "totalled", still works, but lens is moldy and repairing it would cost more than buying a refurbished one. I like using it, and I've taken good photos with it.
I actually found one in my father's stuff and i kinda want to getbit repaired.. is it worth using or is it too old to be repaired and used in like 2023 idk (im not a camera guy i just want to take pictures on it)
Finally got around to watching this video, i picked my minolta x-700 up a few months ago for 20$ at an estate sale. Its the 35mm i always go to before any others, its a simple easy to use system. lenses are still affordable too aside from 85mm lol
@@BadFlashes literally solid. They’re built like a tank. Most vintage lenses are super tough and heavy. Makes you a bit more comfortable about dropping them.
OMG, you got the exact same 60D DSLR as I do back when I was in middle school. It was my first pro camera. Love it. It came with 18-135mm and I bought a 50mm afterwards.
Just bought one off ebay for 145€ with a rokkor 50mm Been looking into slr's for a long time as i feel burned out with digital photography and the amount of images I make, edit and most of the time hardly ever look at Thanks and subbed
I recently got into cameras and I was talking to my mom about it. She told me she had an old camera she bought in a yard sale about 6 years ago for 5$. It turned on , until my brother dropped it le se first and now nothing 😅
I put an SMC takumar 50mm f2 lens on my Minolta X700 using the same m42 adapter you used! However, it kinda is impossible to operate properly since the metal 'legs' protruding from the takumar get stuck on the adapter when I select apertures. Does this happen to you also?
Yeah that happens to me as well for some of my lenses. It doesn’t thread all the way… I can’t remember if those images turned out. I didn’t use them often. You might be able to get them altered.
I think some of the Nikons were pretty good at indicating the current selected shutter speeds through the viewfinder. So helpful as your bot constantly having to look down the dials.
@@BadFlashes Earlier models that were made in Japan, never really had this problem. The ones built later out of Malaysia and China were lemons, with weak capacitors.
If I'm not mistaken the X700 can't use Program mode with the older MC mount lenses. Other modes work fine, though, which is great because my absolute all time favorite lens is the 58mm f/1.2 which wasn't made in the newer MD mount. Don't go looking for one: the price will make you wince. Oh, and Minolta's Celtic lenses were more of a budget line of lenses. Quality is okay, just not at the level of their other lenses. My first SLR was a Minolta SRT-101 in a box kit with the 58mm f/1.2 lens, which I bought at an estate auction for $40. Sounds like a good deal until you understand all the money I've spent on cameras, lenses, film, etc. over the years. Crack would have been cheaper...
You should be completely fine I’ve done it before in the past! Just get yourself a shutter release cable and you’re all good. The reason that MLU exists is usually for larger format cameras. Because the shutters are so big it vibrate the camera more than a smaller 35 can. So go to town!!!
I had a friend gift me this camera and since I really just shot on my K-1000, I never took it out to play. Few years later I want to just casually shoot some film now that I have a kid and I think it's time to let the Minolta out of the cage. Came with the AA battery holder, 50mm 1.7 and a telephoto lens. Fun times ahead!
Hey Caleb, loved the video, so informative and comprehensive (& entertaining). I acquired an x-700 recently, but it's got a busted light meter I need repaired. Needless to say, in the right lighting conditions it will take beautiful photographs! Subbed!
I'd argue at a similar price the Olympus OM2/OM-g are just a touch even better! Their viewfinders, build quality and shutter priority settings make them a blast to use, and the Zuiko lenses rival some of the best there is! Might grab one of these too as another for the collection though. Awesome units!
OM2N is a much better, much more beautiful camera. I like Minolta, but I’m not into plastic cameras. The OM1 and OM2 and some of the Nikon F series are the ultimate SLRs.
@@marike1100nothing competes with the minolta X series viewfinder, its the best and clearest. rokkor lenses are exactly on par with zuiko lenses. OM-1 body is the highest quality no doubt
@@marike1100 An OM-2N is not a similar price for the x700, not even close. Setting that aside, it's more fair to compare a Minolta XE or XD to an OM-2.
I have the Minolta X300 and it’s slightly different from the x700 and x370, for instance when looking through the viewfinder the light meter tells you both the shutter speed you’re on and the one you should shoot at
Minolta is my favourite brand of film cameras. They're just criminally underrated, especially the XE. I have an SRT, XE, XD, and X-700, and they're all lovely cameras. The glass is superb too, of course.
@@Tttttttttttttttttt1111 I don't know a ton about them, and I've never used one before. Seems like they don't allow for much manual control, which would bother me, but if that's not important to you, it might be a good choice. There are lots of other similsr Sales available, so I certainly wouldn't pay too nuch for it.
I might be a bit wary of that one bc it might be an automatic camera so if it doesn’t work it may just be busted. BUT I have never used one so this is all just my first thoughts.
My mom just told me "I've found my old camera again!". Now I am sitting here with the X-700 and 2 pretty good lenses in my hands. Do I try to get it working again? Or do I get an adapter to fit the lenses to my Sony 🤔

Love your reviews. At 3:30 - is that a "full metal" 28mm MC ROKKOR lens - Surely that lovely lens is a generation older than the X700? 😊
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Hello, I would like to ask, how to install the shutter release cable on the X700
It’s on the side of the lens mount. :)
@@BadFlashes Thank you for your reply. There is one more question. These shutter cords are universal?
@@BadFlashes As a beginner, worry about buying mistakes
i cant seem to find that m42 adapter anywhere online please link it if possible😞
Oh damn. Have you tried eBay
I saw one of these at a yard sale for 40€ with two lenses a few dads ago in absolutely great condition so I'm starting film photography now finally
Did you pick it up??????
@@BadFlashes Yesss ofc I did! With two original lenses, works perfectly! Already planned a little trip to properly test it out :)
Good good!!! Welcome 🤗
I have been useing the same X-700 since the 80s it just began giving me problems in 2021.
So i decided to finally upgrade to another Minolta the alpha 9 so fare im loving it.
Oh nice!!! That one looks so cool
I found Minolta X-700 coverd in dust from my parents place. Never held a film camera in my hand before. I love this camera!
It’s amazing. In glad you found a sexy one
I found a like new minolta x-700 at flee market for $20 usd. It has a minolta 50mm 1.7 lens on it that’s very clean. I’m excited to learn more!
Yay! So excited 😆 🥳🤩
Good choice. 👍🏼🙏🏼🍾
Thank you so so much! I just found 2 minolatas x 700 with a ton of lenses at my great uncles place! I was allowed to keep them and got a book about photography in the 80s as well. Knowing nothing about photography, we'll see how far this will get me but I'm really excited after watching this! Thank you!
Omg omg omg !!!! That’s amazing 😻
just found my dads old bag in his basement from like the 80’s with this camera and two other lenses, and a flash attachment, it’s a bit rusty i’m looking for a place to send to get it fully restored but can’t wait until i get it working!
Nothing is better than parents camera! Love this so much! Can’t wait till you get it working!
Really great video, I feel like you're really starting to hit your stride. I really like your style with your videos, it breaks away from the majority of other film TH-camrs.
Oh wow, thanks so so much. This comment makes my day 🥰
So glad you enjoy the videos and I’m glad I can be somewhat different 😆
Love the Minolta X-700 series. Minolta Rokkor-X glass is every bit as good as Canon SSC, IMO. SR-mount glass is cheap and plentiful and adapts well to MILCs, too.
I have a black X-570 and paired with the 45mm f/2 it is a fantastic grab and go kit. The X-370 is awesome, too. I would honestly recommend either one over the Pentax K1000 or Canon AE-1 to new film photographers who aren't trying to overpay for a camera.
Yes yes yes yea to this ☺️
So out of those three X700/570/370 … which do you pick up first ???
@@BadFlashes the 370. I saw one cheap and figured I’d like to try it out. I was really impressed with how nice it was so I got the bigger brother for me, and I’ll probably give the 370 to my daughter and we’ll go shoot some rolls and develop them.
Aw that’s so nice! Love that!!!! That’s definitely a nice little activity :)
I’ll definitely look into the 370 a bit more!
Definitely
I bought this camera maybe 2 weeks ago with 3 lenses and a flash for $70, love to see it
Helll yeah that’s great!!!!!! Love that
Always happy to see my first film camera get some love. Do I still have it? Don't worry about that.
Oh hells yeah I still have it. It is not going anywhere at all!!! Except for awesome photo journeys 😆
Not too late … you still have time to rekindle that relationship ☺️
Nice Video! Just found a x700 in the cellar of our Photoraphy store with three lenses and I'm super excited to shoot lots of film with it 😎🥰
That’s one of the best scores I’ve ever heard about! That’s exciting 🙌🏼🤩💥
Hope you enjoy shooting it 😆
Brooooooo, I have a SRT303b and I love it (even got an adapter to use my M42 lenses on it) but the battery for the poop exposure system doesn't exist anymore. Is it still possible to find the batteries for this one?
I just bought the X700 with silver metal top. I had never seen one like this before, didn't even know they were ever made. Does anyone have any information on these? I believe they might be rare.
What no no way. That’s kinda cool!!!!! I would love to see it 😜
I inherited this camera from my grandfather. Such a great camera
So good. 😊
How much would you pay for a minolta 700x nowadays? I found an offer that sells one with a 1:2,8 sigma makro lense (not quite sure if the name is the same in english) for 80€ (84$).
Do you think that's worth the price?
Yeah totally. I would check eBay and compare where the market is nowadays
@@BadFlashes yes, I just bought out of ebay. Crazy how high the price is nowadays. All I see is the 200-300€ range. Guess I got lucky
Dope that’s solid !!!!
You sold me! I always wanted to try out film but there were way too many options and I didn't know where to start. Loved the style of the video too! 😊
I know how you feel! It can be overwhelming. I’m glad you are sold and found my channel. Happy to help! 🤩🥳☺️
hi tommie here! i had a minolta x-700 in high school photography class you had tosign it out for the yr $ 10 but i had fun with it but sold it want to bu another one ebay or amazon soon i like film better then digital tomme
Convinced that I need this camera.
Currently shooting with X-370 and 450E
It’s not a bad on specially if you already have Minolta glass
My X-700 is "totalled", still works, but lens is moldy and repairing it would cost more than buying a refurbished one. I like using it, and I've taken good photos with it.
I guess you need to go searching for a new one! That’s what it sounds like to meee :)
I actually found one in my father's stuff and i kinda want to getbit repaired.. is it worth using or is it too old to be repaired and used in like 2023 idk (im not a camera guy i just want to take pictures on it)
Totally 💯
This was my first film camera - absolutely love love love this video! Thanks for uploading!
Awww thanks! ☺️
The camera is definitely great!!! 🤩
This was my new camera. Bought it about 1985 i believe.
I so love that!!! :)
I had this camera for years, huge bright viewfinder, it should of had a metal shutter with higher sync speed, its TTL Flash was brillant.
It’s a lovely camera for sure :)
Finally got around to watching this video, i picked my minolta x-700 up a few months ago for 20$ at an estate sale. Its the 35mm i always go to before any others, its a simple easy to use system. lenses are still affordable too aside from 85mm lol
That’s awesome! $20 is like a total deal!
@Bad Flashes if only my yashica mat cost me 20$ 😂 fortunately my ae-1 only cost me 30$ years ago
One of my favorite cameras, metering is pretty accurate. And minolta lenses are sharp AF!
Solid all around!!!! They are pretty great!!!!
@@BadFlashes literally solid. They’re built like a tank. Most vintage lenses are super tough and heavy. Makes you a bit more comfortable about dropping them.
Hahaha drop them all and they bounce back ☺️
please reply if you know the best way to clean this minolta case (leather and felt)
Sorry I don’t :/
I was given all my grandpas film cameras after he died, this one is my favorite to use of all of them so far
Aw that’s sweet! Those are always the best. 🥰
Hey, man! What adaptor are you using for the Helios lense (I guess it'sthe one the comes from zenith camera)
I believe it’s just some third-party, Amazon adapter
OMG, you got the exact same 60D DSLR as I do back when I was in middle school. It was my first pro camera. Love it. It came with 18-135mm and I bought a 50mm afterwards.
Oh nice! It’s a solid camera… a lot of photo taking and a lot of movie making. unfortunately sits on a shelf now
Just bought one off ebay for 145€ with a rokkor 50mm
Been looking into slr's for a long time as i feel burned out with digital photography and the amount of images I make, edit and most of the time hardly ever look at
Thanks and subbed
🥰🥰🥰
I recently got into cameras and I was talking to my mom about it. She told me she had an old camera she bought in a yard sale about 6 years ago for 5$. It turned on , until my brother dropped it le se first and now nothing 😅
Noooo so so sad. Sorry yo. Lenses are good though haha
I'm so in love with film and your videos
Ahhhh thanks for all the love, I’m so happy 😁
Thank you for the video! Picking on of these up. Do you know if MC lenses allow you to use Aperture Priority?
Ahhhh…. Idk. Probably not but idk 🤷🏼
I’m sure they did Nikons had a way of being hood cameras haha
major problem with the x700, were the bottom and top capacitors burning out fast.
Oh interesting. Not sure I’ve had that experience but I can totally believe it.
@@BadFlashes Earlier models that were made in Japan, never really had this problem. The ones built later out of Malaysia and China were lemons, with weak capacitors.
I found a almost brand new Minolta x700 with box but hasn’t been tested. You think it worth the chance ?
I mean like … it’s it’s basically brand new. I mean a used one is dope too… I would say go for it. But that’s up to you and your wallet 🤩😊😆
I have this Minolta system with a x370 and a great line of lenses ranging from 28mm to 75-205mm and they’re great!!
Oh that’s awesome!! 28mm would be dope
Yup…. I’m right there with ya … should have gotten into crack instead haha
The 58mm 1.2 is definitely worth the money. The bokeh is so nice at f2.
Oh yeah???? Maybe I should check it out!!!!
Caleb, what do you think, taking pictures with this camera at night using a tripod is a bad idea? I want to do some Cinestill with it, but without MLU
You should be completely fine I’ve done it before in the past! Just get yourself a shutter release cable and you’re all good. The reason that MLU exists is usually for larger format cameras. Because the shutters are so big it vibrate the camera more than a smaller 35 can. So go to town!!!
@@BadFlashes oh, great to hear. Thank you, man, love your vids ❤️
Aw thanks. Glad to help!
How about trying out Pentax ME Super and Super A, both are easy to use cameras too.
Pentax cameras are dope for sure!
Oh yeah!!!! Let be freeeeeeee!!!!! That’s exciting
Hey Caleb, loved the video, so informative and comprehensive (& entertaining). I acquired an x-700 recently, but it's got a busted light meter I need repaired. Needless to say, in the right lighting conditions it will take beautiful photographs! Subbed!
Ahhhhh yaya thanks so much. I’m glad you enjoy! And glad you got yourself a dope camera there 😉
You could also get a second one haha
I'd argue at a similar price the Olympus OM2/OM-g are just a touch even better! Their viewfinders, build quality and shutter priority settings make them a blast to use, and the Zuiko lenses rival some of the best there is!
Might grab one of these too as another for the collection though. Awesome units!
Damn…. Well I might have to look into it. :)
OM2N is a much better, much more beautiful camera. I like Minolta, but I’m not into plastic cameras. The OM1 and OM2 and some of the Nikon F series are the ultimate SLRs.
I need to try for sure!!!!
Get the MD1 battery grip makes it much easier to grip
I can see that
I have the Minolta X300 and it’s slightly different from the x700 and x370, for instance when looking through the viewfinder the light meter tells you both the shutter speed you’re on and the one you should shoot at
I think the X-300 and the X-370 are the same camera one is the international version … but I could be wrong… and that’s dope btw
@@BadFlashesx-370 does the metering how you wish.. it shows both numbers in the viewfinder.
Minolta is my favourite brand of film cameras. They're just criminally underrated, especially the XE. I have an SRT, XE, XD, and X-700, and they're all lovely cameras. The glass is superb too, of course.
Any Minolta I’ve come in contact with I have definitely enjoyed! You are totally 100% on the head with that one! 😆
Hello! What do you think about Minolta X-7? I found an ad for a sale for a good price, I'm thinking about buying

Im deciding between the x-700 and the ae 1. Im completely new to analog photography, as in shooting myself. Do you have any advice?
This video kinda sums up my thoughts hahah
Investing in lenses is smart. Investing in bodies is so much fun though. Of this, the X-570 and the XG-A, I'm partial to the XG-A because it meters down to about 30 secs instead of 4. All solid bodies to go with the nice MD glass. Thanks for the video. You're always entertaining and informative.
Aw thanks! I definitely try! Haha
And damn… 30sec that’s crazy town! I’m going to look into that. 🤩

Hey I'm kinda broke, is the x-370 a good affordable option or are there better cameras at that price point of around 50 bucks?
At the end of the day. The good thing about most of the cameras is that they do the same thing. So you can’t go wrong 🤟🏽
