04:15 - Don't forget, the ON switch has two modes - an ON mode, and a BEEP/ON mode, where over and under exposure gives you an acoustic warning. So clever.

Agree 100% about investing in lenses. That's why I jumped on the Olympus train a while back with an OM-2S. Super nice camera, with a full line of tiny f2 primes lenses. The aperture ring on the front and shutter speed on the lens mount also just makes sense to me. No need to move my hand too far from the focus ring.

My parents bought me one, in '86 when I was in High School. Took it with me to San Francisco for college in '90. Used it for years, until it got destroyed at a rock concert. I'm now looking to buy another one, as I've recently gotten back into shooting film again. Thanks for the great video.

    Mr Badflash,
Your reviews are so, so much fun to enjoy! I love the oddball humor and general quirkiness, but also kudos for depth of technical info (you somehow sneak in), and the editing and 'pace' of the video. And last, but certainly NOT LEAST: you have the BEST background music of anyone reviewing cameras on TH-cam! Thanks for your hard work putting these videos out. Proposition: if you keep making 'em, I'll keep watching them!

I bought a Minolta X700 to mirror what my dad had. It works so well! I love using it and am just getting back into photography after a few years away with it. I trust the camera completely and it has no issues aside from the aging light seals having gone bad. But I ordered replacements. I had to replace the focus screen as it was scratched but nothing else. It's a great camera and I love the program modes as it makes it easier for me to learn manual cameras on. Plus it's just an easy mode so I can worry about focus only lol.

X-700s deserve a lot of love. Minolta was the silent GOAT of the film days working with Leica for the XE/R3, XD/R4, and CLE/CL. They sort of made Sony what they are today too when they left cameras and sold all their tech to Sony in 2006...Minolta Alpha became Sony Alpha...such cool stuff.

I purchased my x-700 in the 80s not just shooting family and friends get together thousands of backpacking and mountaineering miles on it.
Same camera body and lenses still works like a champ. Still looks new.
At the end 2022 I stepped up to the best 55mm full auto camera?
Yes yet another minolta the MINOLTA. ALPHA 9 ! some old school canon and nikon users might argue with me it's at the top of the 1998 camera triangle.
I'm in my 60s now so I gave in and went digital and got myself a sony a77ii it's so set up like a-9 it's very similar the minolta blood lines are evident pluss all my minolta AF lenses that I already purchased fit it.
Yes I'm most definitely a minolta head and PROUD OF IT!😅

My first SLR camera was a Minolta XG-1. I learned to photograph with this camera, but soon I wanted Minolta's showpiece, the X-700, so that was a lot of savings at the time. How happy I was with that beautiful machine .... it is/was my first true great love. During a vacation in the US I bought a Minolta Motor Drive 1 and felt like a King!! People were stearing at me, when I took pictures. I felt like I was some kind of famous photographer :-) Well, then came the digital age and I bought a Dynax 7Xi...and sold my X-700 to my brother. Whenever I saw him walking around with that X-700, I felt certain jitters. I have now bought back my 3rd X-700. Haha, it remains my first great love.

I've got the X-700 my dad gave me new on my 18th birthday in 1981, and was googling for value info since I'm now retiring and downsizing. It's like new with a couple of lenses, wondering where folks are selling/buying these days? I also have a Canon PowerShot SX10IS I bought new in 2008. Anyway, I've sold other items on ebay in the past but they stopped working with paypal and are now requiring private checking account info. Nope, not doing that! Anyway, any suggestions would be great! Thanks, and really enjoyed watching the video. My dad was a hard-working, tightwad farmer and always bought the best quality we could afford, whatever it was, and taught us to take care of it and use forever - thus my owning two great cameras. :-)

Love the Minolta X-700 series. Minolta Rokkor-X glass is every bit as good as Canon SSC, IMO. SR-mount glass is cheap and plentiful and adapts well to MILCs, too.
I have a black X-570 and paired with the 45mm f/2 it is a fantastic grab and go kit. The X-370 is awesome, too. I would honestly recommend either one over the Pentax K1000 or Canon AE-1 to new film photographers who aren't trying to overpay for a camera.

If I'm not mistaken the X700 can't use Program mode with the older MC mount lenses. Other modes work fine, though, which is great because my absolute all time favorite lens is the 58mm f/1.2 which wasn't made in the newer MD mount. Don't go looking for one: the price will make you wince. Oh, and Minolta's Celtic lenses were more of a budget line of lenses. Quality is okay, just not at the level of their other lenses. My first SLR was a Minolta SRT-101 in a box kit with the 58mm f/1.2 lens, which I bought at an estate auction for $40. Sounds like a good deal until you understand all the money I've spent on cameras, lenses, film, etc. over the years. Crack would have been cheaper...

You should be completely fine I’ve done it before in the past! Just get yourself a shutter release cable and you’re all good. The reason that MLU exists is usually for larger format cameras. Because the shutters are so big it vibrate the camera more than a smaller 35 can. So go to town!!!

I loved most things about this Camera, the Huge Bright viewfinder, the Acute Mat screen, this technology was sold to Hasselblad., The OTF , of the film plane metering, was licensed to Olympus, I did not like the rubber cloth shutter with its 60th sec flash sync speed, other than that it was a great camera.

I tried to buy a Minolta XD or 300 because they supposedly have the function of showing the shutter speed you are on. But any of those I tried to buy were already sold or way too expensive, looks like the universe wants me to buy the x-700, but after rewatching your video, maybe this is how it's meant to be. Great vid btw!
